‘Manpower Bill must address disability issues’

0

Triader Chipunza

MASVINGO – People
With Disabilities (PWDs) have said the Manpower Planning and Development Amendment
Bill which is currently being debated should have special provisions dealing
with their unique requirements.

Among many other
things, the bill seeks to enable funding for innovative students that want to
venture into manufacturing and to establish government-funded professional
bodies to ensure quality education and certification of
internationally-recognisable professions.

Speaking at a
consultative meeting for the bill which was held at the Civic Centre recently,
representatives of disability lobby groups said the law should not be blind to special
needs.

Vimbai Chese, an
ambassador for PWDS in Masvingo, said many pieces of legislation tend to omit special
needs in their clauses.

“It is our wish that
our special needs are included in the provisions of the amendment bill. Parliamentary
representation for people with disabilities is low so our issues do not receive
as much attention as they should.

“If we had more of us parliament,
there are better chances that laws would be more resposive to our needs and we
will be able to learn more and become innovative,” said Chese.

She said public building
needed to be friendlier to people with disabilities in order to improve
accessibility.

“We need more ramps at institutions
so that the physically and visually handicapped can have better access. Right
now, it’s difficult especially for people on wheelchairs to use the regular
toilets that are used by everybody else.

“We will however continue
with our pushing for the rights of people with disabilities until we get full
recognition as equal human beings capable of doing something with their lives,”
said Chese.

Man killed by own sons over magic sex with their wives

ZAKA- A man from Mhou
village under Chief Ndanga was yesterday, October 28, fatally assaulted by his
four sons who accused him of using magic to sexually-abuse their wives who are the
now deceased man’s daughters-in-law, TellZim News has learnt.

The
sons had been told by a ‘prophet’ that their father was using magical powers
known as mubobobo to have sex with their wives.

Police
in Masvingo confirmed the death of the man but could not provide further details
as they were not yet done with their protocols.

A
source said the Patrick Mhou was assaulted by his sons Prosper, Aaron, Evans
and Solomon several times on the head. They accused him of causing miscarriages
to one of his daughters-in-law.

Zaka
RDC Ward 1 Councillor Jakatira Makuyana confirmed the incident saying the four
sons had reportedly connived to kill their father.

One
of the family member said the dispute started when Solomon’s wife consulted a
prophet who then told her that she had suffered many miscarriages due to the
magical sexual abuse.

The
source said Patrick had on the other occasion admitted using the juju when he
was dragged to the prophet. He however provoked his sons’ anger by refusing to
hand over his walking stick which reportedly acted as his talisman.

Music: Deverangwena back with new GZU collabo

Stephen Ephraem

Great
Zimbabwe University (GZU) has scored a first by producing a music album with veteran
artist Jonah Moyo and Devera Ngwena Jazz Band in Masvingo. The six track album titled
Zimba reMabwe Devera Ngwena Vol 41 is due for release any time from now.

The new
offering has six tracks named Great Zimbabwe, Owami Sikhulile, Kumusha
Kwedu, Pedu paGZU, Corona and Mucha.

The bass
line and brass fusion on the album has brought new flavour to Devera Ngwena beat
affectionately known as Tsava Tsava.

On the project,
Jonah Moyo who is now a Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) staff member, is on lead
guitar, rhythm guitar and lead vocals. Cephus Mabara takes bass and second
rhythm guitar while Simba Paridzira plays drums on two songs.

A member
of the original Devera Ngwena in the late 1970s, Johnsai Machinya is on vocal
with two GZU students Lonely Kambewa and Sarudzai Chipinda. Brass instruments are
done by GZU staff Alois Maluleke and Fanwell Dzinduwa.

Moyo, who
composed, arranged and produced all songs, told TellZim News that he was glad
with the opportunity that the university gave him.

“I am
now working at Great Zimbabwe University so the authority approved my students
and workmates to be part of Devera Ngwena Vol 41. We are planning to launch the
album at a date to be advised,” said Jonah Moyo.

“We shall
produce videos of the album after its launch. I urge fans to help us celebrate
the offering which I am sure will taste like milk and honey,” said Moyo.

Jonah
Moyo’s music career goes back over 40 years and during his peak, he toured countries
like Belgium, United Kingdom, Holland and Germany.

Devera
Ngwena was formed at Gaths Mine in Mashava when Moyo responded to an advert by
the mine to have a band in 1977. The band had their first single named “Devera
Ngwena Zhimozhi” released in 1979.

Several
hits like Barbra, Marondera, Solo naMutsai, Grema wepamoyo, Fundisa Umlomo
wakho, Wangu P, Too Cheap, Svika Fair Fair and others followed.

The
original members who recorded Devera Ngwena Volume 1 were Moyo on lead guitar,
the late Robson Banda on bass, Innocent Bitu on rhythm, the late Patrick
Kabanda on drums and Johnsai Machinya on vocals.

When
Robson Banda left Devera Ngwena, he was replaced by a man called Vhizhayi who
also left before the late Jabulani Bitu joined them on rhythm on Volume 2.

Widow’s home burnt down after son impregnates neighbour’s wife

Mai Machemedze’s burnt down houses

Brighton Chiseva

NYAJENA – A
village widow from Zengeya under Chief Nyajena was left homeless after her neighbour
and relative burnt down her four thatched houses because her son had snatched
his wife.

Elias
Mazonde is said to have burnt down the houses out of anger because the family
of the man who stole his wife did not fulfil their promise to pay him five
cattle in compensation.

Chief
Nyajena, real name Addmore Zengeya, confirmed the incident and said he had
referred the matter to the police.

“We
had an incident whereby a widow, Mai Machemedze, was left without shelter after a neighbour
burnt down her home in retaliation that the widow’s son Wellington Machemedze
had taken his wife.

“If
these people had come to me, I could have made sure that the cattle were paid in
time and I could have provided some counselling,” said Zengeya.

He
said the Mazonde and Machemedze families are related, meaning the two are
like brothers in the Shona culture.

Sources
said Machemedze began seeing Mazonde’s wife some time ago and he went on to
impregnate her while Mazonde was in South Africa where he worked.

“The
two were caught by the locals on many occasions but the affair continued until
the woman fell pregnant. When the pregnancy was about four months, Mazonde
asked his wife to come to South Africa and she took Machemedze along and both
stayed with Mazonde in South Africa where they secretly carried on with their
adulterous affair.

“The
two then tried to terminate the pregnancy but Mazonde would soon find out and quiz
his wife about it. She then confessed everything and the two later escaped
after Mazonde had thoroughly beaten them,” said a source.

Machemedze
ended up at his elder brother Mathias who is also in South Africa but Mazonde
followed him there and beat him once more, forcing him to flee to an unknown
location.

Mazonde
then came back to Zimbabwe and engaged the Machemedze family, claiming R28000 in
compensation.

It
was then agreed that Mazonde will receive five cattle to compensate him for the
shame and embarrassment caused but several weeks passed by without him receiving
the cattle.

He
later set fire to the houses at Mai Machemedze’s place to avenge himself.

New dawn for Masvingo tennis

The newly elected Masvingo Tennis Board has vowed to
transform the game of tennis in the province and make sure that the bar is
raised to a competitive level in the country.

Munyaradzi Thomu who was elected on October 17, 2020 as the
board chair after serving for 12 months on interim basis vowed to up the
standards of the game in the city.

The elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was presided
over by Tennis Zimbabwe (TZ) president, Biggie Magarira, saw Thomu, who seems
to be steering the ship in the right direction, being re-elected to serve a
three year term.

Speaking to TellZim News, Thomu said his new board is
dedicated to change the state of tennis in Masvingo and also upgrade infrastructure
for them to meet the required standards to host international tournaments.

“Tennis has for long been seen as an exclusive sport
associated with private schools but what we know is that there is a lot of
talent out there which only needs to be tapped so that it blooms. As the new
executive we are going to explore every talent so that we export and put the
province on the next level,” said Thomu.

He also revealed plans to upgrade tennis facilities in
Masvingo and that the TZ president had concurred to the plans which he hopes
will be to the advantage of local players who have struggled to break into the
international arena.

“We want to transform Masvingo province into Zimbabwe’s clay
tennis court specialists and the Tennis Zimbabwe president concurred that
Zimbabwe’s international players have found the going tough in most tournaments
outside the country where they play on clay courts.

“He also supported our vision to have clay courts in
Masvingo. He urged us to have at least eight clay courts so as to be able to
stage ITF tournaments,” said Thomu.

Thomu will be deputized by Wilstaff Sitemere, Norman Mutore
occupies the Secretary’s post, Chipo Timothy comes in as the Vice Secretary,
and Melody Juma was voted Treasurer while Edmore Mkwenje, Tawanda Makaranga and
Tendai Mhaka make up the committee.

The new board is expected to continue with the projects
which were being implemented by the previous interim leadership which had set
up a vibrant junior league which was helping in nurturing and tapping new
talent.

Masvingo is expected to host two major tournaments before
year end and the province will also seed its U18 players to compete in
International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournaments in November and early
December this year.

Gusha’s ZACC probe story false

0

TellZim Reporter

Earlier this month, TellZim
reported that members of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commision (Zaac) were in
Masvingo where they questioned many officials including former town clerk Adolf
Gusha.

As more details unfolded, it was
realised that Gusha had not been questioned by the said legal authority and
neither had he sought assistance of any lawyer in connection with the matter.

As a matter of fact, members of
the Land Commission which for some time now has been investigating the sale and
use of state land in and around urban centres since 2005 had visited the city
and sought audience with many officials excluding Gusha.

As a consequence, this caused
substantial damage to Gusha’s name.

“I feel abused by the article as
the allegations made against me seek to sully my record as a public official;
an act that seriously degrades my public standing,” said Gusha in his
submissions to TellZim.

TellZim would like to apologise
for the inconvenience that might have been caused by the story to Gusha, his
friends, family and other concerned citizens.

CBAP garden seeds project pays off

Some produce from Siyawareva cooperative garden was recently donated to Morgester Hospital

…as
rural farmers supply Morgenster Hospital with produce

Colleen
Chitsa

The Community Based Aid
Programme (CBAP)’s vegetable gardening initiative which saw 76 villagers in Mapanzure
receiving free seeds is now bearing fruit, with beneficiaries recently donating
some of their produce to Morgenster Hospital.

CBAP executive director
Samuel Mhungu transported and handed over the vegetables to Morgenster Hospital
principal environmental health technician Gibson Chinamatira.

Several bundles of covo
and rape as well as king onions and tomatoes grown at Siyawareva cooperative
garden, Macharaga village in Ward 19 Masvingo Rural District under Chief
Mapanzure were ferried to the hospital to help feed patients.

Earlier this year, CBAP
donated vegetable seeds to villagers who have beds in the cooperative garden so
that they could produce more.

After a fruitful
gardening exercise, the beneficiaries decided to pay back the favour by
donating part of their produce to the hospital.

Speaking during the
handover of the donation to CBAP, Siyawareva cooperative garden chairperson,
Emson Masa said they were pleased to be able to donate to needier cases.

“We invited people from
CBAP so that they can take these vegetables to Morgester Hospital on our
behalf. It’s our way of contributing to the welfare of patients in a similar
manner that CBAP helped us with seeds and CARE helped us with fencing for the
garden,” said Masa.

The 1.25ha garden was
established with assistance from CARE International Zimbabwe which provided the
villagers with fencing.

Masa said they faced a
lot of challenges in their work at the garden but they will continue to work
harder for the good of the project.

“There are 76 of us and
everybody has 10 beds of vegetables in the garden. We also have orange and
naartjies tree that we care for but most of our members are now old and they
are finding it harder to water their plants using buckets. It would be easier
if we had a pump and piping,” said Masa.

In his remarks, Mhungu praised
the villagers for making the best of the assistance given to them.

“It’s very encouraging
to note that people who received assistance from us are also now giving back to
the community. This is an example of the good that we can achieve if we work
together as a team,” said Mhungu.

It’s not the sanctions stupid!

But what do we know hedu isu vana Mapombi. Regai zvizhakane.

I hear
there was a fake doctor in one of our major hospitals and I wonder how this
could be possible. Shuwa shuwa here kuita experiment with people’s lives

noticing? This goes to show that no one cares anymore. Chero hwindi anogona

But since everything is fake in this country why should we be shocked by fake
doctors. We have fake Dr Chiwenga, fake Dr Gire, fake Chamisa, fake ED and I
mean fake everything. No one gives a shit about the other person. Yangova indodha

So I

all urban councils and was in town recently. If these guys are serious then
many heads will roll because I’m reliably informed they opened a bucket not can
of worms paMasvingo City Council. Mapamula hama yangu uri safe here kkkkkkkk?
This visit will surely expose the rot at Urban Councils where corruption, looting
and vested political interests have been rampant costing residents’ quality
service delivery while some few individuals benefit. This cancer must be tamed
before it quickly spreads to Rural District Councils. Hopefully there won’t be
sacred cows and a catch and release because this has been the norm especially
on land scandals which suck in Zanu PF bigwigs. Lands Commission I’m warning
you, don’t sweep this under the carpet. Ini Mapombi mungandiona ndinouyapo

Dear
readers do you remember mumwe muchinda achiti the voice of the people is the

you that Emmerson does not have ears at all. He does not listen to anyone.
Ndiri kuona hangu twumwe twuchiti pwetere pwetere hanzi heee toda kuita
anti-sanctions gala. Have you guys lost your minds? Can someone come here and
explain how sanctions are really hurting ini zvangu Mapombi kuno kuChitima. The
only sanction which is hurting us is Zanu PF and its thievery culture. The
country is bleeding due to corruption. Why do you cry to play with someone asingadi
kutamba nesu. Tambai neChina yenyu yamakada please. Siyanai naTrump atoriwo
nezvake zviri kumunetsa. Remember America is having its elections on November 4
and Mapombi is confident Trump will win again. Joe Biden is close yes but the
Donald will be voted for because he will make America Great Again. Trump does
not care what is happening on this part of the country saka zvenyu zvekuti
anti-sanctions gala itai mega. We know the truth and you will not lie to us
anymore. You can lie to your shallow youth but not Mapombi. Zanu PF is
responsible for this mess and it is only Zanu PF which can get us out of it by
arresting corruption, implementing the electoral reforms, respect human rights,
and observe the constitution among others. Mr President, your people and you
are the ones who have caused the suffering of God’s people. Shamhu yamucharohwa
nayo kana adzika Mikairi in minzwa inobaya. SADC please tell Zanu PF to
implement the reforms kwete kungoti masanctions abve pasina chaitwa. Stop
protecting this dictator and tell him the truth. No reforms no deal.

No
amount of dancing or singing can ever remove the sanctions. Why can’t ED and
SADC introspect and see why the sanctions are there in the first place. What do
you expect when soldiers shoot down innocent civilians in the streets in broad
day light? What do you expect when people are arrested for standing up for
their rights? What do you expect when people are killed for demanding their
freedom? We want a free country which you promised us iwe ED. You took over
power and promised to usher in a new dispensation and we all ululated. Where
are all those things that you promised us? We had so much hope and little did
we know that kubatwa kumeso. We cannot keep crying about sanctions varume. If
you feel there are sanctions then make the necessary changes so that they can
be removed. Izvi zvenyu zvekuti munopembera because SADC has said it will
support the fight for the removal of sanctions ndezvekupenga. America will not
be moved by SADC’s solidarity. Where was SADC when our people were being killed
at 30 degree angle by the army? Where was SADC when our people were being
abducted and tortured by the regime? SADC shut up and forever maintain your
peace. We do not want your help because you are just there to defend this
brutal regime. Sanctions will always be there until Zanu PF realizes that they
need to repent. Unondinzwa here iwe Mthuli Ncube musoro bhangu. I have said

Residents want Chiredzi town planner, engineer dismissed

0

Wesley Kauma

Beatific Gumbwanda

CHIREDZI – United Chiredzi Residents and Ratepayers Association
(UCHIRRA) and Masvingo Residents Forum (MRF) have petitioned the town council
to dismiss town planner Consider Kubiku and engineer Wesley Kubiku so that more
suitable people with capacity to do the work can be recruited.

Kubiku and Kauma are currently
fighting serious allegations of graft after they were recently arrested by the
Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc).

In a seven-point joint petition
plea submitted to council, UCHIRRA as represented by Bernard Dhachi and MRF as
represented by Brighton Ramusi, called for the dismissal of the two senior officials
who are currently on suspension pending court outcomes of  the corruption charges they face.

“Chiredzi Town Council is
becoming one of the most corrupt towns. Numerous cases of corruption have been
recorded with the latest being the arrest of top council officials (engineer
and planner).

“Corruption has hampered
service delivery which has deteriorated to unprecedented levels, with residents
going for days without water while garbage goes for months uncollected,”
reads the petition.

“Last year, floods hit the
town and over 50 families’ homes and property were flooded. Due to poor
planning, council allowed residents to build houses in wetlands,” reads part of
the petition.

The two residents lobby group
said the office of engineer and town planner needed to be manned by
substantive, competent and non-compromised people for the sake of optimum
service delivery.

“We want roads to be
serviced and maintained properly. The waste management department of Chiredzi
town needs to keep the town neat and clean. The town council must build proper
small stalls for street vendors. We need public toilets in the town and tapped
water should be provided to all areas,” the petition further reads.

they least expected

“We thought it was just a pimple but it

not help,” said Guruve.
