Zanu PF disappoints Chiredzi supporters over Mahofa funeral

Tha late Shuvai Mahofa

Anesushe Mamhute

CHIREDZI – Zanu PF supporters in Chiredzi are disappointed that they could not travel to Harare for the burial of late Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs, Shuvai Mahofa last week after the party’s provincial office failed to honour its promise to provide transport.
Party supporters told TellZim News that the provincial office had promised to send a bus to pick up mourners at the District Administrator (DA)’s office and at Chitsanga Hall but that did not happen.
One Zanu PF supporter said people were stranded at the two pick-up points and they later dispersed after all attempts to get in touch with the organising team failed.
“People were informed at a gathering that the province was sending buses to different places and that people from Chiredzi were to be picked at Chitsanga Hall as usual but we later dispersed in the afternoon after noticing that nothing was materialising,” said the party supporter.
When contacted for comment the provincial secretary for administration Ailes Baloyi confirmed that the bus which was supposed to ferry the party’s supporters did not show up.
“Indeed, I received a report that the bus which was supposed to transport the supporters from Chiredzi to the National Heroes Acre did not come. I was later advised there was a breakdown in Jerera leading to the abandonment of the trip,” said Baloyi.
Provincial chairperson Ezra Chadzamira said he was disappointed that the many dedicated party cadres who wanted to mourn Mahofa had been let down.
“Two buses came to ferry the people but it was already too late so only a handful managed to travel to the National Heroes Acre,” Chadzamira said.local, politics

Scramble for Mahofa’s post begins

Hungwe bares it all

Bikita district sidelined

Makwarimba, Matuke and Mhere lead the race

Upenyu Chaota

MASVINGO – Zanu PF heavyweights from Masvingo province have started jostling for the position of the late national heroine Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Shuvai Ben Mahofa, with Team Lacoste faction, which supports Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa to take over from President Robert Mugabe leading the race.
Though some local political punters say it is Bikita district’s turn to hold the office considering that districts rotate, it is very unlikely that the eastern district would get a chance.
Pyschomotor minister Josaya Hungwe, who is touted as the acting Minister of State since Mahofa’s death by Lacoste faction, has distanced self and said only Mugabe has the prerogative to appoint an acting minister.
“Of course I am the most senior Zanu PF member in Masvingo province but I am not the acting minister of State. President Mugabe is the one who will appoint both an acting or substantive minister. I have heard a lot of talk about me being the acting minister since Shuvai Mahofa died but, please, I am not,” said Hungwe.
However, if Mugabe decides to appoint an acting minister, he does not have many options as there is only Hungwe and Minister of Tourism Walter Mzembi.
Sources in Zanu PF also said a new Minister of State is supposed to come from Bikita if proper appointing channel is followed.
“You may be aware that the districts rotate; Gutu took over after Mwenezi so it is now Bikita’s turn. But this is under normal circumstances and I would want to believe that the situation in Zanu PF at the moment is far from being normal therefore, President Mugabe might appoint anyone from any district,” said a senior Zanu PF official in the province.
Given the chance, Bikita has a wide range to choose from with Rtd Major-General Gilbert Mashingaidze, Jeppy Jaboon (Bikita South MP) and former Police Senior Assistant Commission Edmore Veterai all potential candidates.
Team Lacoste, however, says President Mugabe has only three options to pick from, that is, Clemence Makwarimba (Senator), Zanu PF chief whip Lovemore Matuke (Gutu Central MP) and Edmund Mhere (Masvingo Central MP).
The above-mentioned are believed to be Lacoste faction kingpins in the province.
When pressed to comment on who is the best candidate for the post, Hungwe said being the most senior member does not give him the privilege to influence Mugabe.
“Being the most senior member of the party in Masvingo does not give me the power to say who the best candidate is; it is President Mugabe who will choose the most suitable. I will only contribute if I’m consulted,” Hungwe said.
Hungwe is alleged to be a Team Lacoste sympathiser and has on many occasions helped the late Mahofa execute her duties when she was ill.
Even though he has refused to pick out his choice to succeed Mahofa, Hungwe has on many occasions shown his keen interest in having Matuke, Makwarimba, Mhere and Chadzamira in his inner circle.
Another Lacoste faction bigwig expressed confidence that Mugabe would choose Mahofa’s successor from either Matuke, Makwarimba or Mhere.
“The post of resident minister rotates among all the province’s seven districts and the passing on of Mahofa means it is now Bikita’s turn but I don’t see the President following that pattern.
“The President has three names to pick from if he wants to appoint a resident minister and only two if he wants to appoint an acting minister.
“Makwarimba, Matuke and Mhere are the most suitable candidates for the office but Makwarimba is first on the list,” said the source.
If Mugabe chooses to pick from Masvingo Urban district, Daniel Shumba will be in line as he is the most senior member in the district.topnews

G40’s Chipanga in bitter face to face encounter with Gweru Lacoste youths

Itai Muzondo in Gweru

GWERU – There was drama recently when defiant Zanu PF youths linked to the Team Lacoste faction embarrassed Zanu PF youth league leader Kudzai Chipanga by repeatedly shouting anti-G40 slogans during a youth inter-district meeting held at Cecil John Rhodes Primary School.
Chipanga is believed to be a devout member of the G40 faction which is rabidly opposed to Vice President Emmerson Mngagwa succeeding President Robert Mugabe.
The youths, beaming with confidence that they were in a territory long considered to be Mnangagwa’s stronghold, chanted ‘pasi nevanoisira vamwe poison’, in apparent reference to the alleged poisoning of Mnangagwa by his G40 political rivals at a rally in Gwanda recently.
The developments forced Chipanga to timidly warn that he will not accept bad behavior.
“Tinoziva kuti musangano kuMidlands wakasimba semusambangwena. Now let me warn you against one thing. I hear all those who are just shouting here. We won’t tolerate such behavior when the President visits for the Youth Interface Rally on September 2. Anyone who will be seen shouting such chants will face the music.
“I know that slogans are approved so for those slogans that have no blessings from above, I will not accept,” said Chipanga to a booing crowd.
However, Midlands provincial youth chairperson Prosper Machando, supported by many other provincial executive committee members present, stood and chanted the same ‘Pasi nepoison’ slogan again.
“Pasi nengozi, pasi nepoison, pasi nekuroya,” Machando chanted.
“Woona VaChipanga vachitsikwa nechitima zvonzi vakaviwa nedhongi,” he said in reference to widely discredited official accounts that Mnangagwa got ill after eating stale food.politics, topnews

Gender Based Violence. Charity, after the assault by her husband

Moses Ziyambi

It is not an exaggeration that most of us have come across the old Shona dictum ‘varume pasina vamwe’ in one social discourse or the other.
The axiom disparages those men who apparently have nothing or have very little to offer materially or otherwise, such that their worth is rarely, if ever, appreciated.
This probably provides an apt explanation of the sickening and endless cases of extreme violence against women, violence perpetrated at home mainly by husband against wife.
Oftentimes, this violence – whether we call it domestic violence or gender-based violence (GBV) – is perpetrated for the most flimsy if not laughable reasons.
Recently, a woman from Gonese Village under Chief Serima in Gutu district, sustained severe injuries after her husband allegedly bashed her to a pulp. Reason: the man had spent the whole day away and when he came back in the evening, his wife offered him supper but he wanted his lunch first.
The man, identified as Albert Chikoto, wanted to be served the lunch which he had missed during the day before he could take his supper.
“The husband came home late and asked the wife for sadza, the wife gave him his supper. Zvikachinzi ko remasikati riri kupi mukadzi ndokuti ndanga ndaripa vana sezvo musina kudzoka masikati acho. Asi murume ndokuramba achiti ndinorida remasikati acho.
“Bva kana zvakadaro chiregai ndibike. Aiwa handidi kuti ubike ndinoda iroro remasikati sezvaranga riri. Mukadzi ndokuchitanga kubikwa nechitiripo uyezve netambo yemagetsi,” narrated Jonathan Gonese, the Gonese village head who rushed the victim to Chatsworth police and later to the clinic for treatment.
The woman, identified as Charity, was badly injured such that she could not walk and her body was severely bruised as a result of the savage assault but she is now back home, fully recovered and ‘ready to move on for the sake of the children’.
On August 21, the Gutu Magistrates Court sentenced Chikoto to three months hard labour after finding him guilty on charges of domestic violence or assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
This story is just but a tip of the iceberg, a drop in the ocean of many other cases that the courts are handling every day; stories that newspapers are almost finding to be no longer ‘that newsworthy’.
Entrepreneur and women empowerment activist, Angeline Mikiri is of the opinion that abused women are largely conscious of their circumstances, and would opt out if only they had the means to look after themselves.
“Sometimes, women have no choice but to just stay there because they do not have their own sources of income. A woman just hangs on there and this seems to be most pronounced in rural areas where incomes per capita are lower, making the presence of a man in a woman’s life all the more important,” said Mikiri.
“However, some women stay in those marriages simply to live up to the gendered roles expected of them by society. Kuti ndingonzi ndakaroorwa chero pasina rudo.
“Remember, our culture still attaches tags to women who leave their men; many stereotypes are involved for example being labelled morally lose. But if a woman is economically-empowered and has access to information, she knows better,” said Mikiri.
Local cleric and president of the Christian Voice International Zimbabwe (CVI-Z) Reverend Tapfumaneyi Zenda sees poverty as a double-edged sword that can cut to pieces a man’s compassion while, at the same time, severing a woman’s capability to escape violence.
“You have men who feel disempowered by the rough economy and they decide to take out their frustration on women just to prove a point; a mistaken point for that matter,” said Rev Zenda.
At the centre of this view is the idea that if a man feels that he has failed to live up to the normative role expectations associated with his gender – that of sufficiently providing for the family – his ego is dented and the inclination to commit violence against women becomes acute.
“It is in light of this that the need to campaign vigorously against such attitudes becomes an obligation for all sections of society including churches. I fancy a world where women like Charity are empowered so that their husbands do not treat them as charity cases with no choice,” said Rev Zenda.
Gender-based violence (GBV) is the general term used to capture violence that occurs as a result of the normative role expectations associated with each gender, along with the unequal power relationships between the two genders, within the context of a specific society. (Bloom 2008, p14).local

‘Drunk traffic cops assault travellers at Chaka’

Itai Muzondo

CHIRIMUHANZU – Traffic police mounting a roadblock at Chaka allegedly assaulted passengers travelling on a South Africa-bound minibus last Sunday night, TellZim News has learnt.
Though efforts to get a comment form Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko were unsuccessful as his phone was not getting through, TellZim News is reliably informed that a police case has been opened; CR 70/08/17.
TellZim News also saw a 30 second video of the alleged incident which was reportedly recorded by one of the victims who was also travelling in the same vehicle.
In the video, a woman could be seen against the background of vehicle lights trying to reason out with a police officer who is holding a torch but the video suddenly becomes hazy and the woman begins to scream in pain asking that she be left alone.
Lucy Chivasa, one of the alleged victims, told TellZim News that she was assaulted along with many other passengers after they disembarked to check on the driver who was being severely assaulted while his hands were cuffed behind his back.
“The driver was pulled over and he complied but the police officers accused him of disobeying their orders. There was some exchange of words and one of the policeman tried to pull the vehicle keys from the ignition but the driver would not let him.
“They were all visibly drunk and they forced his hands behind his back and cuffed him and began to beat him while we all watched from the vehicle. A passenger went out to try to understand what was going on but they immediately pounced on him and started hitting him as well,” said Chivasa.
“They then started to accuse the driver of hitting one of them and that is when I also disembarked so that I could talk to the driver but they would not let me. They were so rough and mean, all the time speaking in abusive language full of obscenities and they called me a prostitute.
“Being a lawyer, I could not simply watch that abuse and I wanted them to take the driver to the police station and formally charge him instead of just beating him like that. They assaulted me and also hit and injured my sister Lilian who was recording the incident,” said Chivasa.
Another victim also said a uniformed soldier joined the fray but later jumped onto a moving truck and escaped after one of the passengers he had attacked produced an army identity card which showed he was of a higher rank in the army.
“He ran away and jumped onto a moving haulage truck and we were stuck on the scene from around 11 pm to about 3 in the morning because the police would not allow other vehicles to give us a lift. But we later managed to get onto a bus and we dropped off in Masvingo where we made a police report,” said one of the victims.local

ZCC congregants assaulted for disturbing circumcision ritual

CHIREDZI – Members of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) were last Sunday brutalised by circumcision initiates camped at Chengule, Headman Ngwenyeni under Chief Sengwe in Malipati, for allegedly disturbing proceedings at the camp through their ‘noisy’ drums.
Sources said the congregants were busy with their weekly church service when the nearby circumcision camp erupted in fury and overran the congregation; attacking the worshippers and forcing them to scatter, with two of them said to have sustained some facial injuries.
The matter was reported to Chikombedzi police but there were no arrests made by the time of writing.
Chairperson of the Sengwe Pastors Fraternity, Reverend Steve Chauke confirmed the brawl and said the attack could be connected to the simmering tensions between one Elder Mbiza of the ZCC congregation and Headman Ngwenyeni.
“Headman Ngwenyeni was not happy with Elder Mbiza whom he accused of refusing to help his (the headman’s) son with provisions that are required for one to join the circumcision camp. It is said the boy so desperately wanted to join the camp such that, out of frustration, he attacked his father with a brick and ran away.
“I was then shocked last Sunday when one church member (name supplied) called me saying they had been attacked and beaten by the initiates. We then approached some traditional leaders in the community but they all seemed unwilling to talk to us so we consulted our lawyers who advised us to report the matter to the police,” said Chauke.
When contacted for comment, Headman Ngwenyeni confirmed that people were beaten but denied than he harbours a grudge against Elder Mbiza.
“It’s an order given by our chief that whenever these cultural processes begin, nobody should play anything; not a radio not a drum. Saka vechechi ivava vakatoita musikanzwa asi tiri kutotsvagawo mazita evakavarova vacho,” said Head Ngwenyeni.
Speaking to TellZim News earlier on, a church member said the initiates were accusing them of ‘noisy singing and drumming’ thereby disturbing proceedings in the camp and much to the annoyance of the initiates.
“They came and surrounded us. They tried to grab a drum from the boy who was playing it but he managed run away. One of our female church members who tried to protect the drum was beaten hard by one of the boys,” said the church member.
Another female victim said the band of boys were armed with sjamboks which they used to indiscriminately attack the worshippers, including a 14-year-old drummer.
The Shangani people consider their highly secretive traditional circumcision rites as sacred, meriting the respect of all outsiders.local

The real truth about Mnangagwa

0

Hehehee-eda seka zvako Mapombi of the unknown totem, but why is it that people often mistake umbwende (cowardice) for patience or diplomacy? Hamuone kuti uku kumbaipata chaiko here uku?
By the way, Mapombi heard of this public holiday on every February 21 called national youth day what what in honour of President Mugabe birthday. Kkkkkkk vakomana zvomoda kutanga izvi zvimwe muchiti munotamba.
Zimbabwe is not North Korea and will never be one. We will not tolerate such nonsensical and dubious holidays – since when should a President’s birthday be a public holiday? What about those countries who had more than five Presidents before?
The problem is Zimbabwe has known only one President for close to 40 years and that is why some uneducated youths think of having a public holiday on the day Mugabe was born.
We will never celebrate mediocrity Cdes. Mnangagwa akauyawo toita birthday rake holiday, Tsvangirai ouyawo, Mujuru otongawo, Dr Amai naMphoko wo kkkkkkk. Tikwanirei varume nevakadzi imi mukaona takanyarara musafunga kuti takapata manzwaka? Mufaro mwena!
Mapombi heard a certain politician once said takamhanya relay nebenzi so instead of passing on the button to the next athlete after finishing his own lap, benzi rakaramba nechitanda ndokungoramba romhanya riri one. Hameno – it’s food for thought.
So those blessed countries like Zambia which had the privilege of practicing democracy would have over four public holidays in honour of their previous presidents? Hahahahahaha kuzoti vana America. Vangatopedza mwedzi wese nehalf vachingori pama public holiday ka.
It’s only practical in countries were dictators want to rule for life. But nemiwo vamwe vafana veZanu PF dzungu rakakuwandisirai. Mind you dzungu hakusi kungwara – bvunzai vana Pupurai Togarepi vanokupupurirai. Kkkkkk ko dziri kupiko mazuvano Togarepi? Haaa Zanu PF haina mugoni chokwadi murume aizvinzwa uyu kuita sekuti Zanu PF ndeyekumba kwake. Maybe Mai Mahofa zvavakashaya pamwe kuda achapiwavo that senatorial seat. Dzikapiwa tinomhoreswa nezvitanda chokwadi.
The truth of the matter is that we cannot have President Mugabe’s birthday as a national public holiday. We know we are dealing with dictators who impose things but this will never last forever ndopika namai kudai – hatina kumbopata sezvamunofunga imi vanhu vekwaZvi… I mean ikoko chaiko.
By the way how is the first lady doing? Kkkkkk our very own first lady kkkkkkk wozodeyi? But Mapombi wakambozvitaura kuti vana Marujata vomopa power ava. Even Mavhaire once said that as well. Now you see what she is reported to have done across the Limpopo – kushagada mwana wevaridzi. I think we should not waste our time talking about this because usually ndozvinoita vanhu vane manjeremupengo because it’s not normal to complete a PhD in just three months. I mean one, two, three months munhu watopedza doctorate rinoitiwa nevamwe three to four years.
And we all know UZ is a very reputable university so we will never doubt the genuineness of the thesis but kungoti munhu akaiita ane manjeremupengo chaiwo kkkkkkk pamberi naDr Amai!
Anyway, Mapombi heard a lot of stories about Mnangagwa ranging from eating ice cream (Ice killhim) to munya (sadza rakarara) which resulted in him getting sick. It is not clear whether it was a case of poisoned food or food poisoning but all the same, VP vakarwara.
But murume mukuru shuwa ungamukirawo kudya munya shuwa? Ko iyo Ice cream? Hahahaha zvimwe siiraiwo pwere.
Though Mapombi likes Mnangagwa very much – of course for two reasons (one being kuti Mugabe agarisa ngaachibvawo asiire umwe and second kuti muKaranga ambotongawo). But Mapombi has since realised that supporting Mnangagwa is like putting your bets on an injured horse; unodyiwa mari yese nekuti harife rakambohwina race.
Some say Mnangagwa is very calculative and patient but Mapombi does not think so. Let us not mistake umbwende kana udununu for patience and slyness. He cannot continue watching people being sacrificed for him iyezvino gogo Mahofa passed on and we were hearing a lot of stories; Matemadanda arrested and himself allegedly poisoned at a rally in Gwanda.
We have heard endless stories about his allies being sacrificed and crucified but Gushungo 40 (G40) always protects its Cdes. Saviour Kasukuwere was supposed to go after that vote of no confidence by nine provinces but Gushungo protected him. Mutsvangwa also suffered the same blow but Ngwena turned a blind eye and the war vets leader was expelled from the party and government rakacheka nyika.
The real truth about Mnangagwa is that he is a clueless man who does not have the courage to face Mugabe to say enough is enough. Mapombi heard General Mujuru vaisvuta fodya yavo vachitopwititidzira Gushungo chiutsi kumeso vachimuudza live kuti Cde apa mabhaiza apa.
Mapombi heard a lot of stories alleging that Mnangagwa is a shrewd man – really? Don’t you think he is not shrewd but probably he vends his anger on defenseless people. If he is indeed shrewd why then not go face to face with those at the same level with him.
Kungwarira kungogondera vanhu vasina simba sana Mapombi and then you say you are shrewd hahahaha tibvirei apa. Tikwanirei chaiko. Anyway tipei ice cream tidye zvedu isu vana Mapombi takazvinyararira kana yapera tipei munya iwoyo tiutake isu zvedu magavamwedzi.
It’s almost lunch time let me go ndindokanga zvangu maputi angu ndizvidyire. I’m happy that I found a bunch of rotten bananas ndichambopedza have.
By the way I heard Mphoko was on cloud nine after being given a chance to preside over the burial of Shuvai Mahofa at the National Heroes Acre. I heard someone making a joke out of him hanzi tovaviga maLacoste vana Mnangagwa vakangoti vavava kkkkkk but Mphoko so ka mahwani. But for now Mapombi would say Mphoko 1 Lacoste 0. Mboko imboko!mapombi

Gweru gives up on vendors

Vendors file pic

Itai Muzondo in Gweru

GWERU – The City of Gweru has made it clear that they have given up on futile attempts to remove vendors from the pavements and other undesignated selling points, saying the onus now lies with the central government on how to approach the challenge.
Speaking to TellZim News, Gweru mayor, Charles Chikozho said council has since handed over the matter to the Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs, Jason Machaya.
“The issue of vendors is quite troubling. We have since handed the matter over to government so that they can at least help us in that regard. We recently held a meeting with Minister Machaya and we are waiting for a way forward.
“As council, we have seen that we have no capacity to remove vendors because they have refused to leave the pavements. We have also tried to engage police for help us but no help has come,” said Chikozho.
He also said illegal taxis commonly known as mishikashika were also contributing to the disorderliness in town.
“Those are giving us an equally tough time too. They refuse paying for parking disks and imagine the losses we make every day,” Chikozho said.
When contacted for comment, Machaya acknowledged the problem but could not reveal his plans, saying he was on leave.
“I know of that issue but I cannot do anything for now because I am on leave. I am coming back in September,” Machaya said.
No comment could be obtained from the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Saviour Kasukuwere as his phone went unanswered.
Earlier this year, Gweru Vendors Association chairperson Lovemore Reketai told TellZim News that council will never be able to remove vendors from the streets.
“Their move is impossible I don’t want to lie. If they push people, it would be deadly; panofa munhu apo! They would rather listen to vendors than make resolutions from the comfort of townhouse without consulting,” Reketai said.local, top news

Masvingo jokes: signs of a wretched people

0

When people have been victimised all their lives to the point of powerlessness, they tend to take it out on anything or anybody as a means to feel better. Research shows that bullies as well as women and children abusers are largely insecure individuals with low self-esteem. In some cases, such people would have had a history of abuse themselves, and they try to ‘contract’ others so that they themselves can ‘expand’.  Nothing can better explain the motive behind a deluge of social media jokes and memes depicting people of Masvingo as dull and backward. Blacks in general have been victims over the centuries; exploited, humiliated and oppressed in every corner of the world they have set foot, including their own home continent. The resulting low self-esteem and inferiority complex manifests itself in many different ways including gender-based violence, primitive tribalism and narrow self-interest. In South Africa, Black inadequacy manifests itself in xenophobic attacks that are targeted against other Blacks from other African countries only. In the case of Zimbabwe, 90 years of political oppression and economic marginalisation during colonial rule, followed by almost four decades of brutal rule by Zanu PF created a largely wretched population. In their wretchedness, some people are looking for anything they perceive to be weaker than them so that they can take out their frustrations. Men are abusing women, adults are abusing children and now the abuse is taking a tribal dimension. The victim now are the people of Masvingo, themselves a hardworking people with a lot to be proud of. There is no doubt the jokes we are seeing on WhatsApp are not aimed at the land that is called Masvingo because by the country’s pathetic standards, the province is fairly developed; with surfaced roads connecting all the seven districts. The province has many good schools that attract children from all over the country and has three teachers colleges, one polytechnic and two universities. The attack is therefore against the ethnic group that reside there; the Karanga-speaking people. What the perpetrators do not know, however, is that the Karanga are found not only in Masvingo, but in the Midlands too where they again form the majority. Instead of fighting the obvious enemy they see, those people have given up and now want to feel better by attacking a certain ethnic group to stir tribal tensions.comment

Gutu RDC to construct lodges, conference centre at Woodlands Dam

 Woodlands Dam

…moves to promote tourism in the district

Investment Reporter

Gutu Rural District Council (RDC) will soon be embarking on a massive income-generating project which will see the local authority harnessing the potential of the Woodlands Dam by constructing a dam side state-of-the-art lodge, conference centre and fisheries.
If completed, the projects will have enormous economic spin-offs for the district and will provide a serene place for leisure hunters.
The Woodlands Dam is located in Mushaviri area in ward 29 and a 100 hectare piece of land has since been set aside for the project which is likely going to start early next year.
Gutu RDC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Alexander Mtembwa said the project is still in its feasibility stages and the master plan will be out before year end.
Mtembwa said his council will be inviting private players to join them in executing the exciting venture.
“Once our plan is complete, we will be able to invite private players to partner with us in this venture under the Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) arrangement.
“We have decided to embark on this massive income generating project as a precursor to many more projects to come. We are carrying out the feasibility studies of the land on which we want to put up the lodge and the conference centre.
“The lodge will house about 100 guests while the conference centre will be able to accommodate about 300 people in one go,” said Mutembwa.
Once completed, Mtembwa said, the place will be far more beautiful than some other resort places that are currently celebrated in Zimbabwe.
“You need to visit this beautiful place in order to understand what I am saying. Woodlands Dam will be utilised to come up with a place which can attract people from any part of the country,” added Mtembwa.
The cost of the project has not been ascertained yet but Mtembwa said the figure will be out once all the feasibility studies are done.
“As to how much the project will cost, we await the completion of all the feasibility studies. I can tell you that this will be a state-of-the-art project.
“We are going to seek partners to make the whole project successful. The council alone may find it difficult to raise the funds needed so we are going for Public Private Partnerships,” said Mtembwa.
He said the council will soon flight an advert to invite people to come forward and invest with the council.
“You find out that people are working very hard these days and often times, they need a place to get away from all the hassles so Woodlands Dam will be a perfect place to unwind. People should also know there are countless investment opportunities in our district,” Mtembwa said.business
