MASVINGO – The fate of Gutu Rural Hospital doctor, Henry Harry Mushuku who was last week put under fire for allegedly conducting a cesarean session under the influence of alcohol is yet to be decided, Provincial Medical Director (PMD); Dr Amadeus Shamu has said.
The botched operation led to the death of Locardia Mbinda who left a one-day-old baby.
Dr Shamu however said with developments on the ground, the issue will be concluded by the end of this week.
“It is unfortunate that the person chairing Mushuku’s hearings was absent last week. The hearings will however resume this week since I am informed he is back,” Shamu said.
“We look forward to conclude the issue soon. I however can’t give many details on who is chairing the committee and procedures we take in investigating the case since they are internal processes. They are not for the press,” Dr Shamu said.
Sources at Masvingo General Hospital told this publication that when gynecologist; Julius Chirengwa assessed the late Mbinda he observed that there was no possibility of Mbinda surviving the botched-operation because of the immense damage that had been done to her.
“Dr Chirengwa was called to assess Mbinda after she was transferred to Masvingo General Hospital and he highlighted that her chances of survival were next to nil.
“Efforts to piece things together did not materialise. Dr Chirengwa has sent the report of his assessment to the Ministry (of Health and Child Care) and it will be used against Mushuku,” said the source.news

05 Feb 2017 – ZVISHAVANE – Zvishavane town council chairperson, Esau Dube, who was recently suspended for a series of corruption and incompetence allegations leveled against him, is challenging the fairness of his suspension.
In a letter addressed to the minister of Local Government and National Housing, Savior Kasukuwere dated January 16, 2017; Dube denies the allegations that were leveled against him.
He also defends his decision to censure town secretary, Tinoda Mukutu, for what he alleges to be managerial inefficiencies and lack of accountability.
“It is true that I refused to sign the Town secretary’s performance contract for the following reasons; (a) his refusal to realign management salaries as directed by the then minister of Local Government and National Housing Honorable Ignatius Chombo in 2014 (b) his lack of explanation and clarity on the deductions made on council employees without being remitted to the relevant statutory bodies…,” reads part of the letter.
Dube says he had always been reporting corrupt activities in the council to the ministry but no action was ever taken.
He also told TellZim News in an interview that he had visited the minister’s offices on January 19 to seek audience with him so that he could give him his true side of the story but Kasukuwere did not show up.
“I went to his offices on two consecutive occasions but I did not find him despite that my letter had been stamped to show that he had seen it.
I came to the conclusion that there is no good reason for his failure to meet with me,” Dube said.
Prior to his suspension, Dube had been embroiled in a feud with Mukutu whom he had earlier suspended on allegations of corruption but, in a dramatic turn of events with political undertones, Mukutu turned the tables and managed to get Dube suspended by Kasukuwere.news

TellZim Reporter

05 Feb 2017 – HARARE – TellZim News, the fastest growing regional newspaper in Masvingo province and the southern region of the country, receives another award at the Road Safety Journalist Awards held last Friday in Harare.
Ntombiyolwandle Ndlovu, an intern who is studying at Great Zimbabwe University (GZU), scooped the Best Student Reporter of the Year Award, outpacing other competitors from national newspapers.
For the grand prize, Ndlovu received $900 and a shield. Her story, which unmasked the police as agents of road carnage, was judged the best story.
TellZim editor Passmore Kuzipa said the award was confirmation that the newspaper is doing great in as far as community development reporting is concerned.
“We are just over a year old but it’s amazing how we are bagging awards – it is a confirmation that we are indeed the best regional community newspaper in the country. We have outmatched even some national newspapers in terms of community developmental reporting.
“The Traffic Safety Award is also confirmation of the good work we are doing to promote road safety in the country. It is not just about making money as a newspaper but also serving the community we operate in,” said Kuzipa.
In December; another TellZim News Reporter Theresa Takafuma won the MCZ Best Impact Video Award after she exposed open defecation at Dr Grace Mugabe Trading Centre (Chitima Market) due to the absence of toilets.
After the video was released, council rushed to construct ablution facilities at the busy market.news

04 Feb 2017 – MASVINGO – War veterans’ children coalescing under the banner of the Children of National Liberation War Veterans Association (CNLWVA) have vowed to storm Chiredzi West legislator Darlington Chiwa’s sugarcane farm, accusing him of blocking their bid to acquire farms in the Lowveld so that they can empower themselves.
Chiwa is said to be on the forefront of opposition to the takeover of land belonging to sugarcane giant, Tongaat Hullet.
The lobby group say they have no choice but to go and occupy Chiwa’s farm whom they accuse of protecting Tongaat Hullet for personal gain.
Chiwa has however publicly stated that his opposition to compulsory acquisition of Tongaat Hullet land stems from concerns over job losses and the shoddy manner by which the process was being carried out.
The legislator’s backers also accuse Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs, Shuvai Mahofa, of trying to seize the land and enrich her cronies and supporters at the expense of public good.
CNWVLA national secretary for external affairs, Memory Kamoto said they have gathered application letters for children of war veterans and called Chiwa for a meeting but he refused.
“We had our application letters for land in Chiredzi. As children of war veterans, we believe we have to empower ourselves with the resources we have.
“We followed the proper procedure but Chiwa is fighting hard to make sure that the letters are turned down. We do not know why he is doing that but he has left us with no choice so we are going to storm and take his farm,” fumed Kamoto.
She said they are not asking for large tracts of land but only a small piece each so that they can also make a living.
“We are going to write a letter to the Ministry of Agriculture to register our displeasure with all this,” said Kamoto.
She said the children of war veterans are fully behind the revolutionary Zanu PF party and will be launching a campaign in all provinces mobilising people to vote for the ruling party.news

Peter Chawapiwa in Gutu

04 Feb 2017 – GUTU – A Grade 3 pupil was recently abducted allegedly by a woman in the Mazuru area and went kept for more than 24 hours and forced to have sex with two goblins.
Maria Mweneziko appeared before Chief Mazuru, One Mukandatsama, on January 26 facing allegations that she locked the minor into a room where two goblins molested her.
The Chief’s court ruled that the matter was above its jurisdiction and advised the girl’s parents to approach a higher court.
The girl went missing on her way from school on January 18 and was only rescued the following day in the evening by members of the Runyararo RweVapostori Church.
Mweneziko, who was later accused of abducting the girl, joined in the search of the missing child as she lives in the same village with the girl’s parents.
The following day, one of the members of the apostolic church fell from his bicycle near Mweneziko’s gate while riding from a prayer meeting.
He seemed possessed by the Holy Spirit and informed others that the missing child was at Mweneziko’s homestead. He further stated that they had to do something immediately as the child was about to die.
“Mweneziko however denied that the child was at her place but the possessed man immediately went to summon the village head.
“He came back and pointed at a room at where he said the girl was being kept. After Mweneziko refused to open the door, villagers forced entry into the room and found the distressed girl,” said a villager who was part of the search team.
The villager claimed that after being released, the girl narrated how she was fed sadza and milk in the company of two very short but bearded men who sexually molested her.
The matter was taken before the village court where it was agreed that Mweneziko should leave the village. It was later referred to Chief Mazuru’s Court where the matter was considered to be above the court.
TellZim News was informed that the matter has since been reported to the police at Bhasera.news

04 Feb 2017 – SHURUGWI – A Shurugwi mother appeared in court last week charged with forcing her 15-year-old daughter to be intimate with a 40-year-old man and was slapped with a five-month jail term.
Shurugwi Magistrate Evia Matura also sentenced Jephias Nyika to 630 hours of community service.
It was the State’s case that on January 11, 2017, the mother escorted her daughter to Nyika’s homestead and told her that she was going to become Nyika’s wife.
The girl’s grandmother saved her after she followed the two to Nyika’s homestead.
The court heard that Nyika followed the three on their way back home and pleaded with the minor to return with him and she gave in after being pressured by her mother.
The court also heard that at around midnight on the same day, Nyika had sexual intercourse with the minor.
The concerned grandmother, however, took the matter to the police leading to the arrest of both the girl’s mother and Nyika.

04 Feb 2017 – CHIPINGE – Zanu PF Ward 26 councillor, Misheck Busa, who is also the Chipinge Rural District Council (RDC) vice chairperson, recently paid 12 herd of cattle, two goats and seven large containers of traditional beer to appease the avenging spirit (ngozi) of an opposition party member Philemon Nyamunda he allegedly murdered in the run-up to the 2005 parliamentary elections.
When contacted for comment, by this publication, Busa admitted that he had paid the fine as it was the right thing to do.
“Ndakabhadhara ndoga pasina andimanikidza. Ndezvechivanhu izvi. Ndakaona kuti ndikasadaro zvingozondinetsa mangwana (I paid out of my own free will. This is a matter of tradition. I realised that I would have more problems in the future if I had not paid),” said Busa.
The late Philemon Nyamunda’s relatives said Busa’s family had been tormented by the avenging spirit for many years.
Isaiah Nyamunda, who is brother to the deceased, said the vengeful spirit also ordered Busa to demonstrate on a got how he carried out the murder.
He told TellZim News that in 2004, Busa together with his sons, Jairos (ex-soldier), Brighton and a group of more than 12 other Zanu PF youths assaulted Nyamunda and a certain Rambire, accusing them of supporting MDC.
The group was allegedly seen hanging the victims upside down while assaulting them.
The attack was allegedly carried out during the night at Busa’s shop in Matikwa village with Nyamunda and Rambire dying of their injuries the following morning.
A villager who is privy to the developments said Busa and his son later avoided arrest with the help of a powerful politician from the area but suspicions of ngozi began to rise when Busa’s brother died reportedly under mysterious circumstances.
The villager also said in 2013, 2014 and 2015 Busa’s other brothers died mysteriously together with his other sons who were in South Africa.
Busa is said to have approached village head, Lameck Matikwa, to help him settle the issue with the Nyamunda family, leading to the payment.news

Makurira distances self from renal dialysis unit

Makurira

TellZim Reporter

04 Feb 2017 – Makurira Memorial Clinic has distanced itself from the renal section that is operating at its premises, saying the service has a different owner and is run separately from the private clinic.
In the wake of reports that a team of investigators from Masvingo General Hospital had discreetly visited the place to probe whether renal unit parts stolen from the general hospital had not found their way to the clinic, it emerged that the renal unit at Makurira clinic’s premises is in fact being run separately as Agape Renal Care.
In a letter to TellZim News this week, Makurira Clinic’s attorneys, Chakabuda Foroma Law Chambers said their client had nothing to do with the renal dialysis unit operating at their premises.
“In particular, our client advises that, it does not own a renal unit and has never built one in all its years of existence spanning over 20 years. We unreservedly advise that the, the Renal Dialysis Unit which is on our client’s premises is a separate and distinct legal entity operating as Agape Renal Care. It a tenant running a separate business from Makurira Memorial Clinic,” reads part of the letter.
TellZim News is however reliably informed that a four-men investigating team from Masvingo General Hospital comprising Michael Chirenje, Tafadzwa Chikombingo, Humphrey Chimedza and another man identified only as Makuze did visit the clinic for investigations.
Masvingo Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Charity Mazula confirmed that investigations on the missing parts were underway.
Mazula said more details concerning the issue were already emerging with suspects being called for questioning.
“Investigations are underway and suspects are being called for questioning, once everything is finalised, evidence will be presented in court,” said Assistant Inspector Mazula said.
She pleaded with members of the public to help the police do their work by making use of suggestion boxes.
Last week, this publication broke the story about the missing parts from a donated renal unit at Masvingo General Hospital. The story sparked anger among members of the public who felt that corrupt officials in the health sector were costing people’s lives.
The Provincial Medical Director (PMD) Dr Amadeus Shamu said the matter was under investigation.news

Cde Nhenjana, please go to night school

Iyoyi nyaya yekuswera nezhara ichandionesa zvakawanda or let me say zvakahwanda.
I am always looking for food in the bins because these days its very difficult to make fire, its raining cats, dogs and Mapombi. This other day I got the courage kupinda mutown straight from Dr Grace’s place looking for food and guess what, I went to this restaurant at Liquids.
But Zanu PF so ka, ma1 – hanzi ukatapirisa inokuminya yanakirwa, ukavava futi inokusvipa kkkkkk. Anyway, you are all aware that Mapombi rarely discusses personal or trivial issues on this platform but panodawo kuti tidzoredzane, I will do so. I heard there is a police shefu vanetsa ne new girlfriend or sorry its not even a girl anymore , lets say grannyfriend. Neniwo ndakatoona police uniforms dzichitoainiwa wena, hezvo isu tinenge tichiriktwa nemvura uko vamwe vachipisa rudo patown. The black hat guy I am sure haachadzokeri Harare, ko kuno rudo rwakabatazve. I even tried to go to the Commissioner’s church service last week wanike rwurwose nemuchechi, its love all the time , I wished if Jonah Moyo was still living in Rhodhe, ingadai avakuimba new version of Solo na Mutsai, avakutorova shefu vedu vekuenda kuGoogle ava kunotsvaka mhandara yavo pa Vhitori. Kkk harare uchaida yei? I am even informed that some girls, vana vambuya ava vavakutopota vachigara kuPhoenix –Ko nhai vana shefu Makedenge munoregereiko zvakadaro zvichiitika makatarisa? Tsiurai vamwe kani!
Anyway, Mapombi was not impressed by the rumours he heard about Cde Amasa Nhenjana the Zanu PF Masvingo acting provincial chair – I always told you that the guy is not so wise vamwe vakandiitisa nharo. Mapombi rarely mention his educational qualifications but, just for today, will do so that my avid readers can take what I say seriously.
I am a holder of a doctorate (PhD); of course not from UZ. It’s unfortunate that Zanu PF made me the way I am today – I was never born a vagrant kwedu kwaChirimudombo uko vaitondiziva kuti ndaivawo shasha before Independence. Anyway, let me not talk about pre-independence otherwise I would remind many people of a better life they used to live under the British operation. Yes, they were oppressed by the British but the oppression, so they say, was far much better than Zanu PF oppression. Hanzi kuEjipita kwaiva nani kwataikanya zvitina neminzwa.
Sorry I had diverted a bit, I was talking about Cde Nhenjana. Mapombi heard the acting Zanu PF Masvingo province performed a Jameh kkkkkkk hanzi dzakati few minutes dzabvuma kuti dzava kusiira Ezra Chadzamira chigaro ndobva dzaita a sudden U-turn and organized a press conference reversing the statement he had made early and insisted that he will remain at the helm of the province. Kkkkk vana Nhenjana vangu iwe nxwii nxwii nxwii.
But ndiwewo wadii kana vakuru vako vachiti handiende? You have just joined the handiende mandra in Zanu PF. The only difference, however, is that some are more intelligent and they do it in such a way that the opponent is viewed as the aggressor. Zvamakaita izvi ndozvechidofo Cde. The honesty truth Mapombi would tell you is that decision was not so wise to confirm that you are handing over the chairmanship to Chadzamira and suddenly you claim the position back – not even in Gambia you were not going to succeed – o-oh naYayah Jameh ndokupikira kudai waisambopadzoka pachigaro ichochi.
Anyway, Mapombi is a good guy, in fact a very caring one who want to give you a sisterly advice – endai kuchikoro Cde mumbondoti dzidzeiwo chero night school zvayo so you can at least improve your reasoning. You are being used nana Jeppy but kana zvaoma vanotiza. Wake up Cde – go to night school. Even a Grade 7 certificate will be much better.

Please just try to correspond chero mukatangira paMujena Primary mozoenda henyu paRudhanda High zvinotofamba. Never say I did not give you advice Cde!
By the way, I heard the CEO is back in the country and preparations for his 21st February Movement Birthday bash are at an advanced stage, with Masvingo province already having Bikita West as their present.  Mapombi wishes you a happy 93 – rambai muchingotonga vanhu  Gushungo. Julius Malema made it clear kuti President Mugabe is surrounded by cowards kkkkkk Mapombi akaisvozvitaura kudhara vamwe vakati ndiri murwere wepfungwa. Kupfeka mamvemve hakusi kupenga vakomana.
Anyway, it’s almost lunch time now. Let me go ndindokanga hangu maputi angu for lunch. Mabanana haachaore zvekumhanya these days nenyaya yekunaya kwakuri kuita so ndiri pama1 chaipo. I am still looking for accommodation Cdes mukanzwawo pane imba musandikanganwa please.

Newly upgraded Lion Drive condemned

Lion Drive

Beatific Gumbwanda

03 Feb 2017 – CHIREDZI – Barely three months after being commissioned, the newly-tarred Lion Drive has been condemned and transport operators are pressuring council over shoddy work carried out by the contractor whose merit in civil engineering could not immediately be verified.
The road was tarred by a company identified as Clime Construction and was completed way behind schedule in late 2016 after months of unexplained delays.
Chiredzi Town Council chairperson, Francis Moyo said the road had been condemned because huge potholes had suddenly emerged mainly at the bridge that connects old and new rank bus terminuses.
Road transport operators in Chiredzi have vocally complained about the poor workmanship that was done with residents saying they suspect corruption was at play during the construction process.
It was the last road constructed in 2016 but it has quickly degenerated and it looks worse than those that have always been there.
Moyo said he had since informed Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara), which administered the project, of the situation on the ground.
He said the council still owed Clime Construction some money but was no longer prepared to pay it.
“I have condemned Lion Drive because it was not done well as potholes have developed. I have since informed Zinara of the present situation and we are no longer going to pay Clime Construction of their balance because they are supposed to reconstruct it,” said Moyo.
However, Council Engineer, Wesley Kauma, who said he was out of town, seemed to contradict Moyo, saying a road cannot just be condemned because it had developed ‘two or three potholes’.
“I am not aware that the newly constructed road has developed potholes. I will pay a visit but we can’t just condemn it because it has developed two or three portholes,” said Kauma.news
