ZCC congregants assaulted for disturbing circumcision ritual

CHIREDZI – Members of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) were last Sunday brutalised by circumcision initiates camped at Chengule, Headman Ngwenyeni under Chief Sengwe in Malipati, for allegedly disturbing proceedings at the camp through their ‘noisy’ drums.
Sources said the congregants were busy with their weekly church service when the nearby circumcision camp erupted in fury and overran the congregation; attacking the worshippers and forcing them to scatter, with two of them said to have sustained some facial injuries.
The matter was reported to Chikombedzi police but there were no arrests made by the time of writing.
Chairperson of the Sengwe Pastors Fraternity, Reverend Steve Chauke confirmed the brawl and said the attack could be connected to the simmering tensions between one Elder Mbiza of the ZCC congregation and Headman Ngwenyeni.
“Headman Ngwenyeni was not happy with Elder Mbiza whom he accused of refusing to help his (the headman’s) son with provisions that are required for one to join the circumcision camp. It is said the boy so desperately wanted to join the camp such that, out of frustration, he attacked his father with a brick and ran away.
“I was then shocked last Sunday when one church member (name supplied) called me saying they had been attacked and beaten by the initiates. We then approached some traditional leaders in the community but they all seemed unwilling to talk to us so we consulted our lawyers who advised us to report the matter to the police,” said Chauke.
When contacted for comment, Headman Ngwenyeni confirmed that people were beaten but denied than he harbours a grudge against Elder Mbiza.
“It’s an order given by our chief that whenever these cultural processes begin, nobody should play anything; not a radio not a drum. Saka vechechi ivava vakatoita musikanzwa asi tiri kutotsvagawo mazita evakavarova vacho,” said Head Ngwenyeni.
Speaking to TellZim News earlier on, a church member said the initiates were accusing them of ‘noisy singing and drumming’ thereby disturbing proceedings in the camp and much to the annoyance of the initiates.
“They came and surrounded us. They tried to grab a drum from the boy who was playing it but he managed run away. One of our female church members who tried to protect the drum was beaten hard by one of the boys,” said the church member.
Another female victim said the band of boys were armed with sjamboks which they used to indiscriminately attack the worshippers, including a 14-year-old drummer.
The Shangani people consider their highly secretive traditional circumcision rites as sacred, meriting the respect of all outsiders.local
The real truth about Mnangagwa
Hehehee-eda seka zvako Mapombi of the unknown totem, but why is it that people often mistake umbwende (cowardice) for patience or diplomacy? Hamuone kuti uku kumbaipata chaiko here uku?
By the way, Mapombi heard of this public holiday on every February 21 called national youth day what what in honour of President Mugabe birthday. Kkkkkkk vakomana zvomoda kutanga izvi zvimwe muchiti munotamba.
Zimbabwe is not North Korea and will never be one. We will not tolerate such nonsensical and dubious holidays – since when should a President’s birthday be a public holiday? What about those countries who had more than five Presidents before?
The problem is Zimbabwe has known only one President for close to 40 years and that is why some uneducated youths think of having a public holiday on the day Mugabe was born.
We will never celebrate mediocrity Cdes. Mnangagwa akauyawo toita birthday rake holiday, Tsvangirai ouyawo, Mujuru otongawo, Dr Amai naMphoko wo kkkkkkk. Tikwanirei varume nevakadzi imi mukaona takanyarara musafunga kuti takapata manzwaka? Mufaro mwena!
Mapombi heard a certain politician once said takamhanya relay nebenzi so instead of passing on the button to the next athlete after finishing his own lap, benzi rakaramba nechitanda ndokungoramba romhanya riri one. Hameno – it’s food for thought.
So those blessed countries like Zambia which had the privilege of practicing democracy would have over four public holidays in honour of their previous presidents? Hahahahahaha kuzoti vana America. Vangatopedza mwedzi wese nehalf vachingori pama public holiday ka.
It’s only practical in countries were dictators want to rule for life. But nemiwo vamwe vafana veZanu PF dzungu rakakuwandisirai. Mind you dzungu hakusi kungwara – bvunzai vana Pupurai Togarepi vanokupupurirai. Kkkkkk ko dziri kupiko mazuvano Togarepi? Haaa Zanu PF haina mugoni chokwadi murume aizvinzwa uyu kuita sekuti Zanu PF ndeyekumba kwake. Maybe Mai Mahofa zvavakashaya pamwe kuda achapiwavo that senatorial seat. Dzikapiwa tinomhoreswa nezvitanda chokwadi.
The truth of the matter is that we cannot have President Mugabe’s birthday as a national public holiday. We know we are dealing with dictators who impose things but this will never last forever ndopika namai kudai – hatina kumbopata sezvamunofunga imi vanhu vekwaZvi… I mean ikoko chaiko.
By the way how is the first lady doing? Kkkkkk our very own first lady kkkkkkk wozodeyi? But Mapombi wakambozvitaura kuti vana Marujata vomopa power ava. Even Mavhaire once said that as well. Now you see what she is reported to have done across the Limpopo – kushagada mwana wevaridzi. I think we should not waste our time talking about this because usually ndozvinoita vanhu vane manjeremupengo because it’s not normal to complete a PhD in just three months. I mean one, two, three months munhu watopedza doctorate rinoitiwa nevamwe three to four years.
And we all know UZ is a very reputable university so we will never doubt the genuineness of the thesis but kungoti munhu akaiita ane manjeremupengo chaiwo kkkkkkk pamberi naDr Amai!
Anyway, Mapombi heard a lot of stories about Mnangagwa ranging from eating ice cream (Ice killhim) to munya (sadza rakarara) which resulted in him getting sick. It is not clear whether it was a case of poisoned food or food poisoning but all the same, VP vakarwara.
But murume mukuru shuwa ungamukirawo kudya munya shuwa? Ko iyo Ice cream? Hahahaha zvimwe siiraiwo pwere.
Though Mapombi likes Mnangagwa very much – of course for two reasons (one being kuti Mugabe agarisa ngaachibvawo asiire umwe and second kuti muKaranga ambotongawo). But Mapombi has since realised that supporting Mnangagwa is like putting your bets on an injured horse; unodyiwa mari yese nekuti harife rakambohwina race.
Some say Mnangagwa is very calculative and patient but Mapombi does not think so. Let us not mistake umbwende kana udununu for patience and slyness. He cannot continue watching people being sacrificed for him iyezvino gogo Mahofa passed on and we were hearing a lot of stories; Matemadanda arrested and himself allegedly poisoned at a rally in Gwanda.
We have heard endless stories about his allies being sacrificed and crucified but Gushungo 40 (G40) always protects its Cdes. Saviour Kasukuwere was supposed to go after that vote of no confidence by nine provinces but Gushungo protected him. Mutsvangwa also suffered the same blow but Ngwena turned a blind eye and the war vets leader was expelled from the party and government rakacheka nyika.
The real truth about Mnangagwa is that he is a clueless man who does not have the courage to face Mugabe to say enough is enough. Mapombi heard General Mujuru vaisvuta fodya yavo vachitopwititidzira Gushungo chiutsi kumeso vachimuudza live kuti Cde apa mabhaiza apa.
Mapombi heard a lot of stories alleging that Mnangagwa is a shrewd man – really? Don’t you think he is not shrewd but probably he vends his anger on defenseless people. If he is indeed shrewd why then not go face to face with those at the same level with him.
Kungwarira kungogondera vanhu vasina simba sana Mapombi and then you say you are shrewd hahahaha tibvirei apa. Tikwanirei chaiko. Anyway tipei ice cream tidye zvedu isu vana Mapombi takazvinyararira kana yapera tipei munya iwoyo tiutake isu zvedu magavamwedzi.
It’s almost lunch time let me go ndindokanga zvangu maputi angu ndizvidyire. I’m happy that I found a bunch of rotten bananas ndichambopedza have.
By the way I heard Mphoko was on cloud nine after being given a chance to preside over the burial of Shuvai Mahofa at the National Heroes Acre. I heard someone making a joke out of him hanzi tovaviga maLacoste vana Mnangagwa vakangoti vavava kkkkkk but Mphoko so ka mahwani. But for now Mapombi would say Mphoko 1 Lacoste 0. Mboko imboko!mapombi
Gweru gives up on vendors
Vendors file pic
GWERU – The City of Gweru has made it clear that they have given up on futile attempts to remove vendors from the pavements and other undesignated selling points, saying the onus now lies with the central government on how to approach the challenge.
Speaking to TellZim News, Gweru mayor, Charles Chikozho said council has since handed over the matter to the Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs, Jason Machaya.
“The issue of vendors is quite troubling. We have since handed the matter over to government so that they can at least help us in that regard. We recently held a meeting with Minister Machaya and we are waiting for a way forward.
“As council, we have seen that we have no capacity to remove vendors because they have refused to leave the pavements. We have also tried to engage police for help us but no help has come,” said Chikozho.
He also said illegal taxis commonly known as mishikashika were also contributing to the disorderliness in town.
“Those are giving us an equally tough time too. They refuse paying for parking disks and imagine the losses we make every day,” Chikozho said.
When contacted for comment, Machaya acknowledged the problem but could not reveal his plans, saying he was on leave.
“I know of that issue but I cannot do anything for now because I am on leave. I am coming back in September,” Machaya said.
No comment could be obtained from the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Saviour Kasukuwere as his phone went unanswered.
Earlier this year, Gweru Vendors Association chairperson Lovemore Reketai told TellZim News that council will never be able to remove vendors from the streets.
“Their move is impossible I don’t want to lie. If they push people, it would be deadly; panofa munhu apo! They would rather listen to vendors than make resolutions from the comfort of townhouse without consulting,” Reketai said.local, top news
Masvingo jokes: signs of a wretched people
When people have been victimised all their lives to the point of powerlessness, they tend to take it out on anything or anybody as a means to feel better. Research shows that bullies as well as women and children abusers are largely insecure individuals with low self-esteem. In some cases, such people would have had a history of abuse themselves, and they try to ‘contract’ others so that they themselves can ‘expand’. Nothing can better explain the motive behind a deluge of social media jokes and memes depicting people of Masvingo as dull and backward. Blacks in general have been victims over the centuries; exploited, humiliated and oppressed in every corner of the world they have set foot, including their own home continent. The resulting low self-esteem and inferiority complex manifests itself in many different ways including gender-based violence, primitive tribalism and narrow self-interest. In South Africa, Black inadequacy manifests itself in xenophobic attacks that are targeted against other Blacks from other African countries only. In the case of Zimbabwe, 90 years of political oppression and economic marginalisation during colonial rule, followed by almost four decades of brutal rule by Zanu PF created a largely wretched population. In their wretchedness, some people are looking for anything they perceive to be weaker than them so that they can take out their frustrations. Men are abusing women, adults are abusing children and now the abuse is taking a tribal dimension. The victim now are the people of Masvingo, themselves a hardworking people with a lot to be proud of. There is no doubt the jokes we are seeing on WhatsApp are not aimed at the land that is called Masvingo because by the country’s pathetic standards, the province is fairly developed; with surfaced roads connecting all the seven districts. The province has many good schools that attract children from all over the country and has three teachers colleges, one polytechnic and two universities. The attack is therefore against the ethnic group that reside there; the Karanga-speaking people. What the perpetrators do not know, however, is that the Karanga are found not only in Masvingo, but in the Midlands too where they again form the majority. Instead of fighting the obvious enemy they see, those people have given up and now want to feel better by attacking a certain ethnic group to stir tribal tensions.comment
Gutu RDC to construct lodges, conference centre at Woodlands Dam

Woodlands Dam
…moves to promote tourism in the district
Investment Reporter
Gutu Rural District Council (RDC) will soon be embarking on a massive income-generating project which will see the local authority harnessing the potential of the Woodlands Dam by constructing a dam side state-of-the-art lodge, conference centre and fisheries.
If completed, the projects will have enormous economic spin-offs for the district and will provide a serene place for leisure hunters.
The Woodlands Dam is located in Mushaviri area in ward 29 and a 100 hectare piece of land has since been set aside for the project which is likely going to start early next year.
Gutu RDC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Alexander Mtembwa said the project is still in its feasibility stages and the master plan will be out before year end.
Mtembwa said his council will be inviting private players to join them in executing the exciting venture.
“Once our plan is complete, we will be able to invite private players to partner with us in this venture under the Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) arrangement.
“We have decided to embark on this massive income generating project as a precursor to many more projects to come. We are carrying out the feasibility studies of the land on which we want to put up the lodge and the conference centre.
“The lodge will house about 100 guests while the conference centre will be able to accommodate about 300 people in one go,” said Mutembwa.
Once completed, Mtembwa said, the place will be far more beautiful than some other resort places that are currently celebrated in Zimbabwe.
“You need to visit this beautiful place in order to understand what I am saying. Woodlands Dam will be utilised to come up with a place which can attract people from any part of the country,” added Mtembwa.
The cost of the project has not been ascertained yet but Mtembwa said the figure will be out once all the feasibility studies are done.
“As to how much the project will cost, we await the completion of all the feasibility studies. I can tell you that this will be a state-of-the-art project.
“We are going to seek partners to make the whole project successful. The council alone may find it difficult to raise the funds needed so we are going for Public Private Partnerships,” said Mtembwa.
He said the council will soon flight an advert to invite people to come forward and invest with the council.
“You find out that people are working very hard these days and often times, they need a place to get away from all the hassles so Woodlands Dam will be a perfect place to unwind. People should also know there are countless investment opportunities in our district,” Mtembwa said.business
Hungwe panics
The late Shuvai Mahofa…as drama rocks Mahofa funeral
…says 2018 elections will be tough without ‘Chikoforo’
…Jaboon, Mzembi accused of bringing ‘poisonous
Gushungo ice-cream’ at funeral
Upenyu Chaota
MASVINGO – Acting Minister for Masvingo Provincial Affairs Josaya Hungwe seemed to have entered into a panic mode following the death of the late Minister Shuvai Mahofa and the mystery surrounding the illness and subsequent hospitalisation of Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa as he told hundreds of people at Masvingo Provincial Heroes Acre that it will be difficult for Zanu PF to win 2018 elections without Mahofa.
Mahofa, who was one of the faction’s most strategically-positioned member in the province, was reported to have collapsed at her home on the early hours of Monday morning before being rushed to Makurira Clinic where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Mahofa died on Heroes Day, the very day that she was scheduled to officiate at Masvingo Provincial Heroes’ Acre.
However, speaking at the Heroes Acre, Hungwe told the gathering that the game had completely changed and he was afraid that in the absence of Mahofa, campaigning for 2018 elections was going to be very tough for the party.
“Ikozvino ndinotarisa kuti toenda sei ku2018 elections tisina Shuvai Mahofa in this province. She was a visionary leader and had a foresight and I was proud of her as our leader.
“Mai Mahofa, was our big sister here in the province. As a person who went to war in her own right, an organiser in the province and a competent woman whose hard work cannot be paralleled,” said Hungwe.
“Kuti tishaikirwe nevoice rake muno muprovince, we are poorer without her. Hatisi toga tarasikirwa naMahofa. Even the President feels the loss,” added Hungwe.
Hungwe called on Zanu PF chief whip and politburo member Lovemore Matuke, Senator Clemence Makwarimba and party provincial chairperson Ezra Chadzamira to carry on the torch left by Mahofa.
“Makwarimba, Matuke and Chadzamira, Mai Mahofa havapo. Tinoinda sei kuna 2018 vasipo? Murukai imi ndimi veMasvingo munozikanwa kuti kana mada zvoukasha munopinda,” said Hungwe.
He highly praised the three, who are all believed to be loyal fighters of the Team Lacoste camp, saying if he were the Biblical King Solomon – with all the extra-ordinary wisdom – he would have chosen them to help him rule the people.
What caused the sudden death of Mahofa remains unclear but she had been unwell for a very long time following reports that she was poisoned at the Zanu PF 2015 annual conference in Victoria Falls.
Drama at Mahofa funeral
There was drama at Mahofa’s funeral in Rhodhene on Tuesday afternoon when Zanu PF youth embarrassed Bikita South MP Jeppy Jaboon who was in the company of Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi.
Jaboon, together with other suspected G40 loyalists who had gone to pay their condolences, were chased from the funeral for ‘bringing poisonous ice cream from Gushungo Dairy’.
According to Jaboon, some youths approached him saying senior Zanu PF officials at the funeral suspected that he had brought ice cream from Gushungo Diary and they were not comfortable with his presence at funeral.
“I received a shocker as the Zanu PF youth began chasing us away from the funeral. What was more shocking was that they were accusing us of bringing ice cream from Gushungo Diary and they were saying the ice cream was poisoned. I had just gone to pay my condolences and nothing else and for your own information, I had no ice cream with me.
“I have since filed a police report at Masvingo Central Police and the RRB number is 3174229. I want those youths to give full details pertaining to their allegations because I was highly defamed,” said Jaboon.

Women breaking barriers – ‘Being a woman is no obstacle’
Nancy Chatikobo
Brighton Chiseva
For Nancy Chatikobo, the Zaka Rural District Council executive officer for human resources (HR) and administration, being a woman should not be a barrier but an advantage since women have all that it takes to perform just as efficiently as their male counterparts or even better.
When she joined Zaka RDC, Chatikobo became the first female to hold that position at the local authority and she has distinguished herself in that role.
On many occasions, she has also acted as council Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the absence of substantive CEO David Majaura.
Her duty as the head of administration at the council is to ensure the welfare of workers and councillors, a role that had always seemed to be a preserve of men.
Under her leadership, the HR committee recently passed a resolution that the local authority should buy smartphones its councillors in order to improve communication for the sake of service delivery.
Chatikobo describes herself as a goal getter and she believes women can overcome any supposed limitation by working hard and by refusing to wallow in self-pity while expecting cheap sympathy simply because they are women.
“My womanhood is by no means a limitation or hindrance when it comes to tasks that need to be performed and goals that need to be achieved. For affirmative action to be a success, women should measure up to expectation. I don’t believe women should get favours just because they are women,” said Chatikobo.
On the exercise of authority, Chatikobo says subordinates should feel that they are part of a collective and that their contributions and efforts are valuable.
“I believe in teamwork and the importance of individual participation in the building and attainment of one common vision. An organisation cannot be moved forward by one person no matter how strategically positioned and how influential that position could be. You need the input of everybody and you need to make your juniors see that their efforts are being acknowledged,” Chatikobo said.
At her workplace, she says, her subordinates respect her because she treats them as brothers and sisters who understand what needs to be.
“I believe that the most effective way of enforcing compliance is not necessarily the code of conduct but the establishment of a mutual two-way communication process to emphasise the importance of our organisational principles. The code of conduct should be the last resort when everything else has failed,” said Chatikobo.
Her advice for other women who are in similar high-pressure jobs is that tasks must be evenly delegated among the available human resources. All tasks, she says, should be scheduled and diarised, with priority being given to more critical matters so that deadlines and targets are never missed.
A holder of many professional certificates, the soft-spoken Chatikobo did her advanced level education at Daramombe Mission in Chivhu before studying for a Psychology Degree with the University of Zimbabwe (UZ).
She also has a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) as well as a diploma in Personal Management.
Chatikobo has vast experience in public administration; having been assistant District Administrator (DA) of Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe (UMP) where she worked to bring fixed and mobile phone network services.
At the moment, Chatikobo has many other commitments as she sits on the boards of Chiredzi Sub-catchment Council and Runde Catchment Council as a representative of local authorities.local
Charumbira Primary holds first price giving day

Chigaba hands over a prize to a pupil while Haston Takayengofa and Mazhata look on
Clever Taperamoyo
MASVINGO – Charumbira Primary School recently held its first ever price giving ceremony, a remarkable feat for a poor rural school.
Stakeholders like N. Richards Group, H & R Bookshops, Gama Lab, Tropical Copiers, Home of Originals, and Masvingo Rural District Council supported the event.
The guest of honour at the ceremony was Masvingo District Schools Inspector (DSI) Ishmael Chigaba who urged parents and school heads of to work for the development of their schools.
“Make follow ups with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) so that they can give you electricity here. Without electricity, no information communication technology (ICT) learning can happen. Cluster heads and all officials should therefore work together to make sure schools and the wider community get electricity,” Chigaba said.
He urged parents to send their children for Early Childhood Development (ECD) education as it was now a mandatory part of the new curricula.
“ECD is a must do thing. If your child does not take part in it, he or she will not be able to enroll for grade one. The homegrown school feeding programme is yet to come so you have a responsibility to feed your own children,” Chigaba warned.
School head, Choice Mazhata thanked the staff, School Development Committee (SDC), Chief Charumbira, other school heads and the DSI for their support.
The school was established in the 1940s and has an enrollment of 491 pupils but, like other school of its status, has lacked resources to motivate its teachers and pupils.
Recently, the school benefited from a Unicef funding to the tune of US$5 000 which was channeled towards the repairing of classroom blocks affected by bad weather.education
Scouts host 5-day national camp

Provincial commissioner Mr Sylvester Chin’anga (centre) pose for a photo with some of the scouts.
Commissioner Clopas Tomu,
National Public Relations Officer
The Scout Movement in Zimbabwe held a five day national camp for some 700 scouts at the Great Zimbabwe national monuments camp site from August 10 – 14.
All the ten provinces descended on Masvingo for the camping that ran under the theme ‘Create a better world through scouting’.
Many different activities were done throughout the camp and scouts had a chance to tour the monuments and the Lion Park at Lake Mutirikwi.
Masvingo province had scouts from primary schools namely Vurombo, Shakashe, Dikwindi, Francis Aphiri, ZRP Zimuto, Helen McGhie, Madyangove and Chiredzi.
The official opening was held at Nemanwa Primary School and was graced by Mr Magomo from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education standing in for the Provincial Education Director Mr Zedius Chitiga.
Mr Magomo thanked the scouts especially the Masvingo Chapter which has grown in numbers over the years.
He urged all schools to fund scouting as is done to all other school activities and scouts were taught how to prepare traditional foods during the five-day camp.
Our rovers did a splendid job in preparing the camp for the event and making sure that everything ran smoothly.
The provincial commissioner Mr Sylvester Chin’anga managed to coordinate the provincial team with the help of his deputy Mrs Rumbidzai Tonhodzai.
Our main target is to reach out to as many scouts as possible in all the districts across the country which are still lagging behind.
In Masvingo, we still want to reach out to districts like Mwenezi, Bikita, Gutu and Zaka so that we can equip pupils with life skills which will help them when they grow up.
We instil discipline and the spirit of Ubuntu in pupils making them role models in society.
The scouts managed to do clean-up activities at Nemanwa turn-off and around Nemanwa Primary School as a way of showing society that cleanliness is everyone’s responsibility.local
