Walter Mzembi
…as Masvingo South endorses him

Brighton Chiseva

MUSVOVI – Tourism and Hospitality minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Masvingo South, Walter Mzembi faces a tough decision to make ahead of 2018 as two constituencies want him to be their candidate in the general election, TellZim News has learnt.
If Mzembi succumbs to pressure, he will have to leave the constituency that he has been representing for over a decade to test his strength in Harare Central which is considered an opposition MDC-T stronghold.
The call comes after President Robert Mugabe’s clear endorsement of Mzembi at Masvingo Youth Interface Rally.
As if to say they still want their MP, the people of Masvingo South recently pleaded with their incumbent MP to be their candidate come 2018.
Speaking at a rally held at Cheshanga business centre in Musvovi, Chief Nyajena, on Sunday, constituency coordinator, Joshua Matakanure said the people of Masvingo South have already made up their mind and wanted Mzembi to be their candidate in 2018.
Matakanure pleaded with Mzembi to forget about leaving Masvingo South as the electorate there wanted him to be their ‘life MP’.
“Ndoda kuti muzvinzwire mega VaMzembi, pane umwe MP watichada here muno? (I want you to hear it for yourself Hon Mzembi, is there any other MP we will vote for here,” he asked as the crowd shouted back saying ‘No’.
In response, Mzembi said he was going to work for the welfare of the people of Masvingo South and dismissed as mere rumours that he was planning to move to Harare Central.
Mzembi spoke on the need for discipline in Zanu PF in order to achieve common goals.
He also gave a blow by blow account of how he was campaigning for the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) secretary general post.
However, in a side interview with TellZim News, Mzembi could neither deny nor agree that there were calls for him to go to Harare Central.
“I will follow the will of the people. All you need to know is that I am a national figure and people are not stupid; they know my capabilities,” said Mzembi.local, politics, topnews
