Gweru-TelOne who are still fancying their chances of clinching the ultimate Central Region Division One league title will be in for yet another daunting task this weekend as they host a definitive Dulibadzimu side.
With only three games left for league conclusion, Sheasham are five points ahead of fellow Gweru nemesis TelOne.
The telecommunications outfit who clinched a win in their last outing courtesy of Blessing Sahondo are gunning for nothing but three points at Ascot stadium this weekend.
Dulibadzimu gaffer Stanley Ncube told this publication that TelOne will have a good run for their money and points come Sunday.
“It’s a tough match. Tough match indeed but as a team we are up to the challenge to put in a shift as always. Like any other fixture, our approach is the same as we fight for three points. We are also unbeaten in Gweru this season and it seems my players enjoy playing in Gweru,” said Ncube.
Dulibadzimu who have a 39 point tally collected three points in their previous fixture on a walkover after young boys Filabusi failed to appear for match day.
“Yes Filabusi did not pitch but as l said we really wanted to use the game as preparation for our next encounter,” he added.
TelOne assistant coach Rutherford “Wasu” Matondo praised efforts by the boys for the derby win and showed the need to work hard in the next encounter.
“The boys showed unity of purpose and character because they fought to the last minute of the game. Next game versus Dulibadzimu at home, it is not an easy encounter, we need to grind results in all remaining games,” said Matondo.
Meanwhile Sheasham collected three points this past weekend after sinking an ailing Kwekwe United, a team that started the season like a house on fire.
The two net bangers came courtesy of regular goal scorer McDonald Mavhuto.
Ascot also prevailed in a derby after Blessing Sahondo scored the only goal of a much stiff and awaited derby against Clemence Zuze coached Chapungu.
In an interview with TellZim News, Sahondo said the goal was a surprise and a last minute winner that presented itself at the most acute moment.
“It was a tricky game and an encounter that could go either ways. The goal was unexpected because everyone could not believe that I would score within the last two minutes. Even the coaches were expecting the referee to blow the final whistle then all of a sudden I scored at the final fold,” said Sahondo.
“Odega” Sahondo is currently the top goal scorer with 14 goals so far followed by young speedster Liberty “Bango” Masveure who has netted 11 goals.
Vumbachikwe who are also piping at a possible top two finish got the better of MSU in a one nil final scoreline win. Experienced striker Vincent Nzombe got the better of MSU defence at Long John stadium.
Elsewhere the beach boys Paramount and Zvishavane based side Loss Control entertained fans at ZRP Gokwe as the former got better of Senior John Phiri and his Loss Control lads in a ten goal thriller.
Man of the moment at Paramount Obert Zinyama, who also carries the armband registered a brace.
Gaffer John Phiri commended his boys for a stellar away performance from home but despaired on the state of ZRP Gokwe Centre stadium.
Kwekwe based outfit Zpc Munyati who have found their winning wheels under the tutelage of former Zpc Kariba gaffer Godfrey Tamirepi also collected maximum points at Bishopstone Stadium.
The goals came courtesy of Anele Mukarati and Malvin Sithole.
ZPC Munyati captain Decent Dube despaired over the harshness of playing away against teams like Bishopstone considering the state of the pitch.
“It’s always tough to play versus a team with nothing to lose and they gave us tough task. The weather contributed a lot as it was too hot and the pitch is not playable. Our aim is to finish on a high in preparation for the coming season when we will be aiming to start on a high,” said the captain.
Tongogara who are seasoned campaigners felt the passing wrath of FC Platinum Under 19 too tough as they lost two nil.
