The remains of Taurai Lovemore Takawira have reportedly been found burnt, 34 days after he went missing under mysterious circumstances.
Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the development and said investigations are still underway though he could not give more details.
“Yes, I can confirm having received a report of human remains found and police have since launched an investigation to establish the truth of the matter,” said Dhewa.
According to sources privy to the developments, human remains believed to be Takawira’s were found on November 3, 2022 in a thick forest near Rukanda Farm in Masvingo West some 3 km from the scene where he was assaulted.
According to sources, Takawira’s body was found decomposed at a scene that showed that he lost a lot of blood with evidence of arson as his remains were burnt.
Positive identifications are also said to have been done by the late’s wife Tendai Chishoko (39).
The sources further claimed the late Takawira’s I-tel phone was found with blood stains in the pocket of his jean trousers which was bundled up about 40 meters away from where the remains were.
Takawira was last seen on September 30, 2022.
The disappearance of Takawira according to Chief Bere’s spokesperson Adnos Chikomo is strongly linked to boundary disputes that have marred the resuscitation of their chieftaincy with Chief Charumbira loyalists allegedly opposing the new arrangement.
