Bikita ward 22 holds agricultural show

In its quest to fight against climate change and promote competitiveness among farmers in Bikita District, the Department of Agricultural, Technical and Extension Services (AGRITEX), hosted an agricultural show in Ward 22 with a record of 444 exhibitors and 1696 exhibits.
The show was held at Murwira Primary School on July 21 and was attended by guests from the Grain Marketing Board (GMB), Ministry of Women Affairs, seed houses, and farmers.
In his speech, Bikita District Agritex Head who was the guest of honor Nobert Chidhuza urged farmers to participate in Agricultural shows to enhance their knowledge on how best they can improve farming and cope up with climate changes.
“I urge you farmers to take advantage and participate in different agricultural shows. This helps you to get insights on how to deal with rapid climate changes and enhance your farming skills,” said Chidhuza.
Ward 22 station officer Tafara Mhoka encouraged farmers to form agricultural groups which focus on different agricultural activities.
“I encourage you farmers to create your own groups which mainly deals with livestock and crop production,” said Mhoka.
The show was running under the theme ‘Promote competitiveness among farmers’ and the overall winner was Christopher Mashanda who scooped the farmers’ choice award.
Exhibitors walked away with prices including input seeds and small livestock farmers were urged to participate from district agricultural shows to provincial shows.
The District agricultural show is scheduled to take place on August 3 and 4 at Emperial Building, Nyika Growth Point, and all willing farmers are invited to attend.
