MASVINGO – Carter Athletes, an independent board of three athletes, has made a passionate plea to members of the public seeking sponsorship so that they will be able to participate in all competitions next year.
The group is made up of Witness Makovere (22), a student at Masvingo Polytechnic, Elphas Mutimanga (20) and Jaison Mupa (19), who is also a lower six pupil at Ndarama High School.
This year, the trio participated in the Zimbabwe National Youth Games where Makovere scooped four medals; one gold, two silver and one bronze while Mupa won one gold and one silver medals.
In an interview with TellZim News on Monday, Makovere said they were committed to athletics and they had wanted to do better this year but they faced severe problems raising the requisite resources.
“Our wish is to do better next year and win more prizes. The challenge that we face is lack of money to fund all the expenses especially transport and accommodation since most competitions are held in Bulawayo and Harare,” said Makovere.
The trio also said that they failed to attend the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) games held last month in Bulawayo due to financial constraints.sport
