23 April 2017, CHIVHU – There was drama at Philjen Lodge recently when Chikomba Rural District Council assistant auditor Bornwell Madhuveko used his teeth to tear off the left thumb of one Ronald Mafuka who had had a dispute with a staff member at the lodge.
A police report was made following the incident and Madhuveko was arrested but Mafuka later withdrew the case after agreeing to an out-of-court settlement.
The agreed terms are that Madhuveko pays Mafuka a sum of US$4000 as compensation for injuries caused and he had already paid US$1000 by the time of writing.
On the day in question, sources said, a female staff member at the lodge who is related to Madhuveko accidentally hit Mafuka with a broken glass bottle leading to a minor misunderstanding which was however quickly resolved.
Madhuveko is however said to have followed Mafuka when he was leaving the place, grabbed him by the lapels and bit him hard on the finger before leaving him wriggling with pain in a pool of blood.
“He tore my finger apart and I have people who came my rescue to thank. I did not fight back but I warned him that what he was doing was wrong. I withdrew the case from the police because it would probably have cost him his family and job,” said Mafuka.
“I don’t know what got into him because I had already settled my dispute with his relative. As for now, I am getting medical attention from the doctors but the pathetic part of the story is that I have lost my finger but I had to forgive him and settle the matter in a gentlemen’s way,” said Mafuka.
