03 April 2017, MBERENGWA – In a bizarre incident which has left many villagers in Mberengwa shocked, two close friends have let a conflict over a dog escalate into a brutal fight which left another hospitalized after hit by a hoe on the head last week.
Mandlaenkosi Siyarota of Rugara village at Mbirashava in Mberengwa is battling for his life after he was hit by a hoe and sustained a deep cut on the head.
The incident happened at a weeding cooperative (Nhimbe) when Tawedzerwa Dube confronted his friend and accused him of using his dog to guard his fields from menacing baboons without his consent.
Dube and Siyarota then started to fight, with the later reported to have attempted to hit his friend with a stone but was attacked before he could do so. Siyarota then allegedly picked up a hoe with intention to hit Dube but was overpowered. Dube then disarmed him and used the same hoe to hit Siyarota on the head.
Vengai Maphosa, Siyarota’s uncle confirmed the incident saying he told Dube to hand himself to the police.
“I received Dube’s phone call apologizing that he had injured his friend, my nephew. I told him to make a police report and he is currently in remand at Zvishavane prison. We took our nephew to White hospital in Zvishavane and he was immediately transferred to Gweru General hospital,” said Maphosa.
Efforts to get comment from Midlands police provincial spokesperson were fruitless by the time of going to print.local, topnews
