31 March 2017, ZAKA – Wilson Makono of Makono village in Mutimwi area was last week installed as the new substantive Chief Ndanga replacing Reuben Chimedza who was on acting capacity following the death of his father a few years ago.
Makono was officially installed by the Minister of Rural Development, Preservation and Promotion of National Culture and Heritage Adednico Ncube and the ceremony was also attended by president of the Chiefs council chief Fourtune Charumbira.
The 43 year old Makono hails from the Govere family which is among the five Ndanga chieftainship families.
He worked as police officer in Plumtree and he held a position of detective inspector by the time of his retirement.
Makono becomes the second substantive chief in Zaka after Chief Nhema, Rangarirai Bwawanda
The installation of chief Makono brought to an end the wrangles among the five chieftainship families, Mutatsuri, Maradze, Ndanga, Govere and Makono, each of whom claims rights to the throne.
Chimedza and the Mutimwi family which is acts as the installer (Zibaba) snubbed the installation ceremony in protest saying they do not acknowledge Makono’s ascendency to power.
The new chief promised that he was going to include women in his advisory council to represent the women on issues affecting and relating to them.local
