23 Feb 2017 – ZAKA – Zaka Central legislator Paradzai Chakona is on a collision course with Chief Nhema, Ranganai Bwawanda, whom he accuses of de-campaigning him and has issued a stern warning that the chief must leave politics to politicians while he performs his chieftainship roles.
The feud between the Zanu PF legislator and Chief Nhema date back a long time with the MP accusing Chief Nhema of working against his political survival.
It is alleged that Chief Nhema is campaigning for one James Makiya to take over the seat from Chakona in the 2018 elections.
“Nhema is all over the place fighting Zanu PF as if he does not know chiefs should not be involved in political issues. He has been conducting rallies in Ward 9, 14 and 15 and behind my back.
“Even if he says he is campaigning for Zanu PF, he should leave his ways because the party has proper structures on how candidates are chosen. He should play his role as a chief and leave politics for politicians,” Chakona said.
A source said Chakona was also bitter of reports that Chief Nhema had recently stopped people from attending his rally.
“When Chakoma heard that Chief Nhema stopped district chairpersons from attending his rally to mobilise support for his preferred candidates ahead elections for provincial structures, he vowed to stop the chief from meddling in politics,” the source said.
When contacted for comment, Chief Nhema refused to shed light on his feud with Chakona.
“I hear he threatened to get rid of me but it will be unfair to give a comment since I have not met Chakona in person. Chakona has also not +approached me to tell me his complaints and above all, I don’t know anything about his allegations,” Nhema said.politics, top story
