Mwenezi village head arrested for poisoning dogs, chickens

MWENEZI – A 68-year old Mwenezi village who allegedly poisoned many dogs and chickens as way of revenge for his goat which had been mauled to death by some dogs was last week brought before the courts.
Earlier this year, TellZim News reported on a shocking incident where many village dogs and chickens had died after eating poisoned food thrown around at several homesteads during the night.
Fani Chikahamare of Village 5, Munyamani under Chief Maranda, was being represented by his lawyer Kossam Chuma when he appeared before magistrate Honest Musiiwa.
He pleaded not guilty to 14 counts that were read before him but villagers who lost their dogs and chickens in the barbaric incident, however, said it was indeed Chikahamare who committed the offence.
They argued that he cut some pieces of flesh off the carcass of his goat, applied some poison onto them and moved from door to door in the night, feeding all the dogs.
The complainants said they woke up the following morning to the horrible site of dead dogs, cats and chickens that had also consumed bits of the poisoned meat.
Charles Sibanda, who is one of the complainants, told the court that one of the key witnesses who saw Chikahamare committing the dastardly offence had since developed some mental challenges after exposing the act.
“The key witness in this case is my younger brother Hardlife Sibanda. When Chikahamare realised that he was spotted by Hardlife committing the offence, he warned him against exposing him. However, the day Hardlife broke his silence, he became mentally challenged and is now admitted at Ngomahuru Psychiatric Hospital,” Sibanda said.
Led by prosecutor Willard Chasi, the State alleged that on January 17, Chikahamare’s goat was mauled by some dogs from the village and he vowed to retaliate.
On the night of the same day, Chikahamare laced remains of the dead goat with an unknown poisonous substance and moved around the village throwing the poisoned meat at several villagers’ homesteads.
Villagers woke up the following morning to find dogs, cats and chickens dead. Footprints of the suspect were tracked and they led to Chikahamare’s homestead.
According to State papers, more than 60 dogs, some cats and several chickens belonging to different villagers died. The matter was postponed to a later date for continuation of trial.news

CHIREDZI – A former councillor won the MDC-T Chiredzi West primary elections which were, however, described as not credible because of widespread allegations of rigging, with one of the candidates’ name missing from the ballot paper.
Stanley Temba, who is former Ward 3 councillor, won the elections after garnering 530 votes followed by Charles Jacobs with 515 and Simbarashe Baloyi with 509 votes.
His competitors, however, cried foul saying Temba and presiding officer, Lovemore Chinoputsa plotted to rig the elections.
UK-based businessman, Dr John Manganye’s name was struck off the ballot paper altogether.
MDC – T leaders, Nelson Chamisa is expected in Chiredzi this Saturday to try and solve the grievances.
Critics of the electoral processes said Temba and Chinoputsa opened a bogus polling station in Ward 27 where ballot boxes were stuffed, giving Temba 347 votes at that single polling station while his rivals got nothing.
When contacted for comment, Chinoputsa dismissed the allegations, saying the process went well.
“People voted very well in Chiredzi,” said Chinoputsa
However, a party member who refused be named said Zaka West constituency aspiring candidate, Festus Dumbu caught one boy trying to use Temba’s BVR slip to vote and he handed him over to Chinoputsa.
Dumbu’s cell phone was not reachable for comment but Chinoputsa said he did not know about the allegations.
“We never received such kind of report from Dumbu. We just heard by rumours that someone was caught using Temba’s BVR slip in Triangle but the issue was never brought to our attention,”  Chinoputsa said.
A total of 13 polling stations were used, with Baloyi leading in seven of them, followed by Dusty Zivhave but Temba carried the day thanks to the controversial Ward 27 polling station.
During his time in council, Temba was named in some corruption allegations and some party supporters have said his candidature in the primaries will not do the MDC Alliance any favour.
Zanu PF has since fielded Farai Musikavanhu as its candidate for Chiredzi West after the former Tongaat Hulett agriculture director beat Chiredzi Town chairperson, Francis Moyo and current MP, Darlington Chiwa in the ruling party’s own chaotic primary elections.
Moyo and Chiwa have since dismissed the primaries as a sham and have indicated they will contest in the general elections as independents.politics

MASVINGO – Primary and Secondary Education minister, Professor Paul Mavhima, recently unpacked the new education curriculum to the professors, deans and students on a public lecture held at Great Zimbabwe University’s Robert Mugabe School of Education.
Prof Mavhima said the ministry saw it prudent to replace the previous curriculum that existed for over 75 years with a new one which is more practical and able to produce economically compatible students.
“The previous curriculum existed for almost 75 years and was more theoretical and not compatible with the quickly changing world. The technological advancements have necessitated the changes in the curriculum so that we create pupils who will adapt with the 21st Century.
“We need to equip our pupils with proper and relevant education from primary to tertiary education,” said Prof Mavhima.
He said countries like South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Mauritius and Austria developed from the background of proffering proper educational system with coherent underlying value systems that answer to the needs of the country.
“Studies have shown us that an education system without coherent underlying value system would not contribute to national expectations,” said Prof Mavhima.
Mavhima admitted that the ministry still encounter a myriad of challenges towards effective implementation of the new curriculum but are working to overcome.
“Information Communication Technologies (ICT), Wi-Fi connectivity, classrooms and electricity might be the biggest challenge particularly in rural areas but we have to embrace and find a way forward.
“As the ministry we are planning to computerise all the schools in 3 to 5 years to come,” said Prof Mavhima.
Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) Vice Chancellor Professor Rungano Zvobgo said the lecture was important to the university since they are the major stakeholders in the education system of the country.education

Destitute Mwenezi hailstorm victims appeal for assistance

MWENEZI – More than 400 households from different wards of the district were recently left destitute after heavy hailstorm destroyed their homes.
The hailstorm killed one person in Ward 8, while many other people were hospitalised, and the victims are now looking for assistance to rebuild. 
Mwenezi East MP, Joosbi Omar has visited some of the victims, coming face to face with people who are now leaving in makeshift shelters with little or nothing to eat.
Speaking to TellZim News after visiting Ward 7 and 13, Omar said he will help to publicise the plight of the victims.
“We are going to urgently form a disaster committee so that we can see how best we can help to reconstruct the destroyed homes. The victims need urgent assistance because some were left with absolutely nothing.
“More than 200 homes were destroyed and some schools like Petronella Primary had their roofs blown off. We are appealing for any form of assistance from well-wishers,” said Omar.
The legislator made some donations to help the victims go by, and encouraged other people to contribute whatever they can towards the alleviation of suffering.
Ward 13 councillor, Takura Mudavose said although the district’s Civil Protection Unit (CPU) had donated rice and some tents, much still needed to be done if the victims are to rebuild their lives.
The violent storm, which toppled big trees and damaged infrastructure, also wrought severe damage in wards 8, 9 and 14 in Mwenezi West.
In Ward 8 Chivi South, the violent hailstorm led to the collapse of many houses, with scores of people suffering injuries.local

Gamuchirai Jonhera proved with no doubt that she was the right person to be the 2018 Miss Tourism Zimbabwe Masvingo Province after putting up a splendid performance at the modelling contest held at Flamboyant Hotel on Friday, May 25.
Among many other dignitaries and enthusiasts, the contest was graced by Hillthru Enterprises CEO Benjamin Mazarire and his wife who made many contributions to the success of the pageant.
Jonhera, a 21-year-old second year Tourism Management student at the University of Namibia, walked away with US$500 cash prize and a weekend holiday package at Regency Hotel.
Ruvarashe Mukuu and Faith Dube, both from Great Zimbabwe University (GZU), were crowned first and 2nd princesses, getting US$250 and US$150 cash prizes respectively while Blessing Mugabe took the Miss Personality title.
Speaking after her crowning, Jonhera said she looked forward to living up to the expectations that come with her new responsibilities.
“Miss Tourism Zimbabwe Masvingo 2018 was my biggest pageant and I had a great experience throughout the whole process. I learnt a lot as well. Competition from my rivals was very stiff but I am glad I managed to come out on top. I would like to thank the Miss Tourism Zimbabwe organisers for the great experience,” said Jonhera.
Regional license holder for Miss Tourism Zimbabwe, Innocent Munaye thanked the sponsors who made the show possible.
He also thanked such executive committee members as Lorraine Muguti, Moreblessing Magutso,  Memory Munaye and Bhebhe Mangwanya and Heather Masimba for helping him plan the show.
All models said they were happy to take part in the contest, with those who lost saying they were humbled by the opportunity to get some exposure.
 They said they will forever be grateful to be afforded an opportunity to take part in a contest which has the interest of so many people in the whole country.entertainment

The day Mapombi has been waiting for was announced – 30 July 2018 I will cast my vote, for who only young people know. I have to be honest guys, kana muchindivenga ndivengei zvenyu but ndinofira kureva chokwadi; I don’t have confidence of voting for anyone above 65 years old. Never!
I will vote for Chamisa and no one else. I don’t think our President ED has anything new for the people of Zimbabwe. But let us suppose he has something to offer, Mapombi would encourage him to go and share the notes with Chamisa because we now want young and fresh blood to lead us. More importantly, an ‘innocent’ leader with no historical baggage of past atrocities!
Mapombi was optimistic that ED would change things for the better but after the failed 100 days to end cash crisis, but guess what, the whole President announced without any shame that he too was ready to join the queues. Kkkkkkkkk vanga vava kutoti ndinodawo kujoina queue instead of kupedza maqueue at the banks. Hameno kuti airevesa here kuti angadawo kutovata pam pavements usiku hose achiitira kubata mutsetse makuseni-seni.
Mapombi has not seen anything worthy talking about since ED’s take over from uncle Bob except that he also signed a lot of deals. We must also give him credit for introducing his now world ‘famous’ scarf which he religiously puts on chero kuchipisa sei. The other notable thing was to license varimi vembanje. But I now hear the licensing process has been stopped. What haapened? Ndofunga zvazvava kurwirana marezinesi acho kumosoro ikoko. Kkk
Anyway, Mapombi used to hear vanhu vachiti mupfana Chamisa anonyanyisa kureva nhema: I met Trump, I met Kagama, or is it Kagame who copied my ICT model and implemented it in his Rwanda. The young fellow also made many ‘sexist’ statements. But I think ED, too, is a liar – he has been talking of dualisation of roads and construction of new railway lines that would link major cities but since 2015, hapana chati chabuda. Even the Chirundu-Beitbridge highway ichakangodaro and people are dying every day in accidents. Ko $100 million iya hanzi takapiwa neUK kuti ipedze mitasetse yemari. Hanzi we have revitalized NRZ, we have bought new locomotives from South Africa. But are they really new? Are they all compatible with our railway system? If yes, sei tisiri kuona zvitima zvacho zvichifamba?
Uncle Bob officiated at the ground breaking ceremony for the dualisation of the road at Chaka business centre but vakasvika pakungobviswa pasina chaitwa. Now ED is in charge but the best he does is to cancel the tender which had been awarded to Geiger for the dualisation of the road.
But still, he wants people to vote for him yet he cannot do anything chinoonekawo zvacho. Kuswero wawata naKedha but chabuda hapana. ED promised to arrest the criminals that were around uncle Bob but nothing has been done – no one has been arrested. And then all those lies that we will name, shame and then prosecute those who externalised funds.
Kkkkkk some people are really cowards – kutya impeachment before one is even elected kkkkkkkk haaa zvakaoma shuwa. What if one loses?

Anyway, Mapombi would like to urge the electorate to go and cast their votes on July 30. It is your right so please go and exercise that right whether intelligently or foolishly. Mapombi doesn’t care much about that chakakosha kuti vanhu vaenda nehuwandu hwavo kundovhota. Of course, I will vote for Chamisa and those who are inspired by Mapombi you are free to vote for him as well. Handingakurambidzei kuvhoterawo mutungamiriri akazvinakira kudaro.
Chamisa said he would marry off his 18-year-old sister to ED kana akadyiwa election but inini I can assure you that kana Chamisa akadyiwa ndinoipa vanhu mahara – I mean any men above 18-years-old can come and feast for free! Yes, for free!
One thing I am certain about is that ED will struggle to win in a free, fair and credible electoral process. Over my dead body! Njuga dzinorema idzi vakomana. Don’t forget that uncle Bob will soon be attending rallies endorsing Chamisa kkkkkkkk gore rino tichaonera zvedu vana Mapombi of the unknown totem. Ichoooo …Ichoooo …Ichoooo.
Anyway, it’s almost lunch time let me go ndindokanga zvangu maputi angu for lunch. But before I go, can someone tell ED to walk the talk especially on having free, fair and credible elections. ED must as well leash his boy Mukupe and uncle Hungwe because vanomborasika zvekurevesa. By the way, Hungwe said he would retire soon after elections kkkkkkk really? Why then did he participate in primary elections and win the senatorial ticket for Chivi – Mwenezi? Kkkkk Mapombi really does not understand this guy; if you want to retire then why contest in primary elections.
We are not as stupid as you may think Cde Hungwe – by the way is he really a comrade or a sellout? Whatever but musatamba nepfungwa dzedu handitika. If you wanted to retire you would not have contested in the primary elections.
Mapombi will be watching. Let me go ndindotsvaga zvangu some rotten bananas ndidye while waiting for maputi angu kuti aibve. By the way, pane akambonzwawo here nezvaMphoko? Is there anyone with information about Mphoko’s whereabouts? Mapombi is very worried; I have no doubt that Mpnoko and Kasukuwere would make a good combination if they join NPF. Hopefully Mphoko is not still bitter about salary yemwana wake uya medical doctor. But why not just pay his daughter nhai vaChinamasa? Dewure lifts Christian Schools soccer trophy

ZAKA – Dewure High school won the Church of Christ Schools competitions held at Matara High School last weekend after beating Mashoko High with a goal to nil in the finals.
Dewure secured a ticket to the finals after beating the hosts by a goal to nil while Mashoko secured theirs after a two nil victory over Chiredzi Christian High.
Matara and Chiredzi Christian Schools took the third and fourth positions respectively.
Masvingo Christian College took the fifth position and won in the girls’ handball category while Chizondo and Chiromo took the sixth and seventh position respectively.
Other Christian Schools, Dinhe and Dadaya were absent from the tournament.
The tournament had both indoor and outdoor games including music and drama club, with Masvingo Christian College winning in the drama category.sport

Golf must not be simply a game by which the privileged pass their time, but should be a means of working for the greater good of the community, Masvingo Golf Club captain, Stanley Kondongwe has said.
Kondongwe made the remarks after a prize giving ceremony following the two-day 2018 Sothern Tour golf tournament played at the club.
The tournament, which brought together dozens of golfers from Masvingo and Midlands provinces as well as from Harare, raised over US$8 400 part of which will be donated to charity.
“Playing golf is good, and it’s even better when you do it knowing that you are playing to advance a noble cause of charity. I am pleased that we are gathered here today as golfers who acknowledge the importance of giving a hand to those who are less privileged than us,” said Kondongwe.
His words echoed those of OK Zimbabwe Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Alex Siyavora who said his company would continue to play a part in the welfare of the poor and vulnerable.
“OK Zimbabwe is proud to be here again in support of this great initiative as we have always done. This is a way of giving back to the community by bringing some activity to the communities that have always supported us in our business,” said Siyavora.
OK Zimbabwe were the sponsors of the tournament which also closed with a donation of various foodstuffs and blankets to Ratidzo School which is run by Zimcare Trust.
The tournament was played by more than 60 players over 36 holes, with the game format being medal.
Overall winner was E. Zaranyika, who, playing 21 handicap, achieved a combined net score of 131, followed by C. Ngwenya, 7 handicap, with 136 points. On third position was Siyavora, 21 handicap, with 131 followed by a tally of K. Musiiwa, 23 handicap and B. Chiondegwa, 16 handicap, at position four with 141 points each. 
It was, however, Ngwenya who scored the best combined gross of 150; 74 on day one and 76 on day two followed by S. Masiya, 4 handicap, at 160; 80 on day one and another 80 on day two. R. Cummings, 8 handicap, managed 167 combined gross; 83 on day one and 84 on day two.
Zaranyika, alongside Chiondegwa, managed a combined gross 173 each; 91 and 82 for the former, and 85 and 88 for the latter for day one and two respectively.
Other people who made an exceptional mark for themselves include Kondongwe; nearest the pin on hole 3 on day one, J. Musoko; nearest the pin on hole 3 on day two, P. Mudimu; nearest the pin on hole 18 on day one and S. Kasirowore; nearest the pin on hole 18 on day two.
Longest drive on 4 and 14, day one, went to Ngwenya and G. Gwainda respectively, while on 10 and 17, day two, was Cummings.sport

BEITBRIDGE – MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa last week attacked the Zanu PF government for failing to develop the border town despite the huge potential which comes from its proximity to South Africa and its position as a transit town.
Addressing supporters at his maiden rally in the town at Dulibadzimu Stadium, Chamisa said the town remained underdeveloped despite its strategic place on the country’s geo-economic map.
He criticised the delays at the border post, saying there was no good reason for travellers and haulage trucks to spend several hours before being cleared.
“I don’t want a month to solve that, just give me a week. If you don’t want to work, go home. I am different from (President Emmerson) Mnangagwa who says Zimbabwe is open for business yet they close the border.
“How do you open business when our border is closed? We want a border that makes it easy for those coming from South Africa and going out of Zimbabwe to pass through. This will only be possible through a young leadership not through Ngwena (President Mnangagwa’s nickname),” said Chamisa.
Chamisa pledged to establish a home affairs office in Beitbridge, saying the border town should be a business hub with government offices where people will come to look for jobs.
“We want to reverse the immigration trend so that those in South Africa can come back and look for work in a prosperous Beitbridge city with high rise buildings, full municipal status and a thriving tourism sector. This very coming Christmas, nobody will be delayed for any minute longer at the border,” Chamisa told the cheering crowd.
He also attacked the government for its failed hotel project whose building has now become a white elephant.
The US$39 million hotel was built by the government-run pension scheme, National Social Security Authority (Nssa) but it shut down in no time due to low business levels.
Speaking at the same event, alliance spokesperson, Prof Welshman Ncube said the opposition coalition was giving Vice President Kembo Mohadi, who has been a constant feature in local politics, a final notice to leave.politics

ZAKA – Zanu PF national political commissar Engelbert Rugeje Zanu PF met his match in Zaka East when he was publicly humiliated and accused of imposing candidates during a consultation meeting at Zibwowa, in Ward 20, over the weekend.
Rugeje, who had barred party members from asking questions soon after the consultation meeting, was opposed by one of the party supporters, Samere ‘Majavha’ Makusha, who stood up and told him to his face that the candidate (Ringisai Gumbwanda) they imposed will not stand a chance in the forthcoming general elections slated for July 30.
Before Makusha could sit down, five men who were reported to be Rugeje’s aides attacked him, slapping him on the face before dragging him to a nearby anthill where they thoroughly bashed him. Along the way, Makusha said one of the attackers allegedly produced a gun and hit him on the back.
“I stood up and told PC Rugeje that Zanu PF risks losing Zaka East because the leadership was imposing a candidate who is not popular at the grassroots. A candidate who is popular was disqualified under unclear circumstances, while the other one’s name was omitted on the ballot paper.  As I was speaking, I was surrounded by five men, two in front and one of them slapped me twice on the cheek.
“They dragged me to a place behind an anthill while the other guy kept on hitting me with the butt of the gun. They tried, but in vain, to push me to the ground and some party supporters intervened and rescued me. My leg was injured during the attack,” said Makusha.
When contacted for comment, Rugeje watered down everything saying the consultations went on well at all the six places they visited.
“I addressed six meetings, they all went well and I never heard or see anyone being attacked. We told them to support the candidate who won the primary elections,” said Rugeje.
More supporters who spoke to this publication, however, accused Rugeje of dictatorial tendencies saying the national commissar wants to apply force and command on the electorate.
Some party members did not vote during primary elections and they wanted a re-run but Rugeje allegedly told them that they should forget and smile, saying Gumbwanda was the candidate for Zaka East.
This caused some disgruntled party members to threaten a ‘bhora musango’, claiming the party was taking them for granted.
“In every election, the leadership imposes candidates on us and this time we are saying enough is enough. If they do not allow us to choose a candidate of our own choice, then we are going to vote for an opposition or independent candidate,” said one disgruntled supporter.
Some people said Talent Chivange was their preferred candidate but was disqualified for his alleged previous links to the G40 faction.
After Chivange was removed from the race, many party supporters turned to Clemence Chiduwa whose name, however, was mysteriously omitted from the ballot paper, forcing people to choose between Gumbwanda and Nyasha Gavaza.
