Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner General, Godwin Matanga recently urged senior police officers to deal decisively with political violence instigators now that the country is approaching a critical general election.

Addressing senior police officers drawn from all corners of the province during his maiden tour of Masvingo for the first time on Friday15, Com Gen Matanga said perpetrators and instigators of violence must never be allowed to discredit the elections.

“I urge you to ensure that no dirt is swept under the carpet. To this end, swift and decisive action has to be taken against any offender and all cases must be thoroughly investigated and quickly disposed of,” Comm Gen Matanga.

The police were also encouraged to conduct campaigns conveying messages that promote peace and unity in the communities.

“I urge you to embark on vigorous campaigns designed to propagate messages that promote peace and unity among the people by encouraging dialogue among political opponents and their supporters and encourage tolerance of divergent political views and strongly discouraging all forms of political violence,” said Matanga.

He further urged police officers to deal with all offenders without fear or favour.

“I am quite aware as you all are, that there are some misguided elements out there that have the temerity to wilfully violate laws of the land in the face of the police. That is totally unacceptable,” he added.politics

Mkanganwi chieftainship wrangle rages on

Brilliant Mukaro

BIKITA – The Mkanganwi chieftainship dispute remains unresolved as the family which is supposed to lead cannot agree on who should succeed Alfios Njodzi Chinamho who died in 2017.

Last week, a selection meeting chaired by Albert Serima at Bikita DA offices could not reach a consensus, with one member of the Chiumburu family opposing the installation of Rtd Maj-Gen Gibson Mashingaidze.

The dissenting Chumburu family member wrote a letter to the Provincial Chief’s Council arguing that the former soldier did not qualify, claiming his family had had its turn on the much coveted throne.

The Mkanganwi clan is made up of three main branches namely Funhiro, Mushanduri and Chiumburu families.

The Chiumburu family, which is made up of four sub-families itself, is said to be the most deserving of the throne at the moment but members neither agree on the suitability of Mashingaidze to rule, nor do they agree on any other different candidate.

The Chiumburu sub-families are Pambwei, Ruzhou, Chapwanya and Kufakunesu where Mashingaidze hails from.

Mashingaidze’s opponents are mainly from the Chapwanya family led by Charles Chapwanya who argues that the Kufakunesu family cannot take the throne for the second time when other families have not yet had their turn.

Mashingaidze, however, maintains that it was, rather, the Pamwei family which held the chieftaincy in the past, not the Kufakunesu family.

"I am the legitimate candidate for the chieftainship. All arguments that are being made by some people are enemies of progress who do not know our history and the culture of our people.  Some things are sacrosanct; our flag, our national anthem and the Constitution which is the supreme law of the land, going against it is a confirmation of madness,” Mashingaidze said.

On his part, Serima said due to the controversy surrounding the matter, he could not immediately make a decision but would have to do some research first.

“I am obliged to follow the correct channel of the chief selection process. Everything that I do should be in line with the traditional laws of this land. Due to the controversy surrounding this matter, a decision will only be reached after we carry out research," Serima said.local

WCoZ scales up fight against sexual abuse

Mwale leads proceeding at the event
TellZim Reporter
MASVINGO – Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe (WCoZ) Masvingo chapter last week organised a workshop at Charles Austin Theatre where emphasis was put on the need for society to fight abuse in all its forms.
WCoZ Masvingo Chapter coordinator, Belinda Mwale lamented the prevalence of sexual abuse at work places.
“We want to stand up for girls who face abuse at their work places. Girls doing work related learning are particularly vulnerable. We want to encourage girls to reject exploitative sexual advances even though they could be in desperate need for work related learning and marks. Nothing is more valuable than the sanctity and health of their bodies,” said Mwale.
She also talked about the sexual abuse of women by their husbands, saying many victims were not willing to talk, with some of them withdrawing cases that warrant convictions.
“Women should work for themselves so as not to rely on their husbands for everything. Women who are totally dependent on their husbands for livelihoods tend to suffer abuse in silence,” Mwale said.
Other stakeholders who attended the workshop included women with disabilities who called for greater inclusion to foster mainstreaming.
“Women with disabilities suffer double trouble. We are undermined because we are women, and we are again undermined because of our disabilities. We are calling for greater representation in committees of such organisations as WCoZ so that we can champion our own issues. There really can be nothing for us without us,” said one participant.
WCoZ is a non-governmental organisation working as a forum for women to engage in collective activism while discussing issues that affect them.local

Mutsvangwa must be taught good lesson

Kkkkkkk the kind of leadership we have ndomahwani chaiwo. Mapombi will not hesitate to say we have a serious leadership crisis in Zimbabwe. I head the ZRP Commissioner General mudhara Matanga was in Masvingo this week where he had a meeting with all officers-in-charge. Mapombi heard that the police boss suggested that no junior officer should come to work with cellphones. Kkkkkk hanzi hakuna unofanira kuuya necellphone kubasa because dzinokanganisa kushanda kkkkkkk maBoss anoda kubatsirwa aya.
Tuku said ‘kunzwa musoro kutema sandiro dambudziko; ongorora chikonzero chaita kuti musoro uteme’. You cannot ban technology Cde Matanga; you can try at your own peril. I don’t think the officers are not working because of cellphones but the conditions are deplorable to say the least. Basa rechipurisa rinombaishoreka; a guard alert security officer is far much better.  Improve the working conditions and salaries, and see if people will not work. Mapombi does not wish to have a boyfriend or any relative in the police force, teacher akange nani.
Anyway, Mapombi is still doing a research kana vanoziva ndibatsireiwo. Chirwere chinonzi nhuta ndiyo yatinoti cancer paChirungu here? Our VP Chiwenga said he suffers from nhuta and I am thinking kuti ndiyo cancer paChirungu, but then is cancer sexually transmitted? The VP said even his wife Mary suffers from the same disease?  I don’t know ndibatsireiwo vanhu vaMwari tione kuti VP vedu tingavabatsira sei because kwedu kuno kuChitima Market mishonga yechivanhu izere kana riri guchu haupedze.  Chakaona hama hachisekwe varume zvoda kubatsirana izvi mind you mbudzi kubarira pavanhu hanzi nditandirwe imbwa – inga VP vedu vakataura pachena nezvedenda ravaitisa like he is bleaching. He is not bleaching at all. Inhuta!
Kkkkk but Mapombi like the combination of the trio of ED, Chiwenga and Mohadi. The comrades are not charismatic and I wonder how they are going to win this election if they don’t rig. Their speeches are not inspiring at all senge Mohadi kkkkkk Mapombi akange nani. I’m only limited because no one can take me serious because of where I stay kwedu kuChitima uku where I survive by eating rotten bananas and maputi asina nzungu. Besides that kumirisana naMohadi I can defeat him pafeya.
Still on this election issue; I think people like Chris Mustvangwa should be taught a very good lesson. The guy is misinformed that he thinks he is likeable – can someone tell him the truth kuti haachadiwe kuNorton. That Langton guy is the man of the moment and Mapombi heard what they did to him. Mapombi is very sure that Mutsvangwa will be humbled come general elections; I am sure this time achatuka ari ED chaiye. Kkkkkk but how can Mutsvangwa describe our political commissar Rugeje as a political novice? Kkkkkkk Rugeje hauna hasha wena hahahaha kunzi political novice. But sometimes kugona benzi kurinyararira makatogona Cde Rugeje.

Now the people of Norton should show Mutsvangwa kuti who is the real political novice. #MutsvangwaMustFall. I heard mface akanga adya Mutsvangwa was threatened akatiza hake kuti vanozviti vakangwara vasare vatonge. Mapombi just wonders what will happen if the special advisor vakarohwavo havo nekamwe kamunhu kasina basa or naMliswa. If a special advisor fails to strategise to win a mere constituency what then would he advise a president of a whole country? Tichaonerera rwendo rwuno.
It’s almost lunch time guys let me go ndindokanga zvangu maputi angu for lunch but chando chava kurova vakomana. People should spare a thought for people who need help like at the Old People’s Home, Pioneer Cottages and Alpha Cottage. Let us assist them with blankets and jackets even second hand jackets will go a long way in keeping them warm. And of course, kana azosarawo mozopawo isu vana Mapombi because the breeze from Mucheke River inombondifungisa kundowanikwa ini. Yes, I think of getting married; at least from now then I can divorce hangu around October uko ndodzokera hangu kuChitima Market kwandajaira.
I heard the young man had a difficult time in UK? I heard that activist journalists grilled him? Mapombi would like to salute Chamisa for maintaining his cool; that guy is an activist journalist. I haven’t heard of any professional journalist using words like silly and nonsense. Never.  Haters must not celebrate that mediocrity; if anything they should advice that sucker to act more professional. They can go ahead and push the ED agenda but we want professional journalists.
Of course Chamisa must pay particular attention to some of the issues Sackur raised. Manage your excitement Mr President Chamisa and stop lying. Mapombi knows that some of the issues are meant to be jokes, in bad taste though, but Chamisa must manage that uye kungonyepa so hakudikanzwe. Don’t take voters for granted some of us are divorced from Zanu PF because vanonyepa varume ava so if Chamisa wants to join the league yekunyepa then be assured he will not get my vote. And of course with the attitude of people around Chamisa, my vote is just as useless as Khupe’s. Ndine phobia yenhema hangu I would rather vote for Nkosana Moyo than munhu anoda kutiona setakapusa achitinyepera. Why lying that you met Trump when you met his administration?
Mapombi heard Chamisa’s ardent supporters trying to justify that ukaona machinda aMambo watoona Mambo kkkkk hooo. Itai tione.
Mapombi was hoping to see NPF ichimhanya mhanya but it seems the guys are full of confusion. We are hearing they have a lot of resources but hatisi kumaona isu. Start campaigning comrades if you are really there because hapasisina nguva apa. I cannot really wait to see Mugabe campaigning for the opposition and attacking Zanu PF. Ichoooo…Ichooooo…Ichoooo. Asante Sana…Asante Sana…Asante Sana. Iwe neni tine basa! Imagine Mphoko ari paside donating chicks and incubators kkkkkk gore rino. Mboko imboko!mapombi

Chombo’s empty promises for Mwenezi schools revisited

Ignatius Chombo

Cephas Shava

MWENEZI – It has remained an eternal nightmare for two Mwenezi schools that were promised some funds for renovations by former Zanu PF secretary for administration, Ignatius Chombo (pictured above), in the run-up to the Mwenezi East parliamentary by-election last year.
Addressing a rally in Ward 13 at Avhunga Secondary School while campaigning for the Zanu PF candidate, Joosbi Omar who went on to win the by-election, Chombo made commitments to provide funds for the renovation of classrooms blocks and teachers’ houses at the school.
He further promised the nearby Villivilli Primary School some roofing material for the completion of a classroom block.
Chombo and his then party are however yet to deliver anything to honour what they promised to the two schools that are among a list of other countless dilapidated satellite schools.
Though no comment could be obtained from authorities at the respective schools, Ward 13 councillor, Takura Mudavose expressed lack of confidence in Chombo ever fulfilling his promises now that he is out of the ruling party.
He however put his faith in the current government saying he hoped something will be done to help the many struggling schools in the district.
“It’s true that Chombo made a commitment to disburse funds to ensure renovations of the two schools. So far the promises are yet to be fulfilled.
“Although those who made the promises are no longer in the party, I am confident that our new administration under President Emmerson Mnangangwa will definitely chip in,” said Mudavose.local

120 Fire fighters trained at Great Zimbabwe monuments

Mark Kutyauripo demostrates on how to use fire beaters

Clever Taperamoyo

MASVINGO – Fire Fighters Trust (FFT) in conjunction with the Environmental Management Agency (Ema) recently trained chiefs and representatives of wards surrounding the Great Zimbabwe monuments in basic firefighting techniques in a bid to reduce fire incidences at the heritage site.
The training came at the backdrop of various destructive fires that have persistently posed a danger to the respected archaeological site.
Veld fires occurred at the monuments for least six times between 1990 and 2015, with two serious incidents being recorded in the 2015/16 fire season.
The group educated the community about the dangers posed by veld fires both to human beings and the environment particularly to the moments as a tourist resort which generates considerable revenue for the country.
Retired seasoned fire fighter, Mark Kutyauripo, who facilitated at the event, said communities needed to be informed and provided with necessary equipment to curb veld fires especially as the country approaches the fire season.
“All communities around the country need basic information and equipment on how to control and minimise veld fires as well as to report fire incidents to relevant authorities since thousands of hectares of veld is destroyed by fire countrywide every year,” Kutyauripo said
He also encouraged the participants to conserve their environment by embracing social platforms especially WhatsApp to update each other on incidents of veld fire.
“Embrace this new channel of communication to inform each other when veld fires occur. Fire incidents require communities to be integrated and be able to fight together,” he said.
Tawanda Nyabaza, who represented Kondrad Adenauer Stiftung; a German organisation which, among other programmes, is financing efforts to conserve the environment and prevent veld fires; also encouraged people to fight the problems brought about by climate changes.
He said such problems as droughts and low rainfall can be confronted by growing drought-resistant crops, reforestation, and the protection of wetlands.local

Teenage pregnancy: Is there a solution?

Melody Kamumvuri, ZiMSA

Almost every parent that I have come across before is quick to point out children of nowadays as too forward, irresponsible and immoral. The western culture imitated by most of the youths is unethical to the older generation. The question now is how do we strike a balance and shift from the generation gap as a source of our problems and differences.
The youthful age is a very important stage in the life of an individual that is full of energy, ideas and zeal to explore. There is no doubt when youth choose to use their energy to perpetuate negative acts, the results are often, if not always, devastating. While some are struggling with sexual pressures from peers, a considerable number has already fallen victim and face the burdens of parenting at tender ages.
In the past, girl children based in rural areas where more vulnerable and were victims of teenage pregnancies than the rest. However, times are changing and this problem has been wide spread not only in rural but also in urban areas. Despite the efforts by the government and society to educate and empower the girl child, no solution to eradicate the problem has been found.
Teenage pregnancy comes with a lot of disadvantages and setbacks to the society at large and to the girl child mostly. At such a tender age, teenage girls are not yet fit and ready to be mothers both physically and psychologically. Some of the disadvantages include;
~child mortality
~low birth weight
~malnourished babies
~child and forced marriages
~divorces
~domestic violence
~sexually transmitted infections
~dropping out of school
~homelessness
It is now a thing of the past to blame the position of a girl child in society for all the times that she is impregnated. Even some who have been exposed to sex education still end up spoiled. Who is to be blamed for all this? I agree abstinence is the greatest and safest way to avoid such but, what is to be done when one fails to play by the rules? There are a number of ways to prevent teenage pregnancies and sometimes sexually contracted infections which might come along with them.
Methods of contraception
~male and female condoms
~morning after pill
~the patch
~spermicides

Knowledge on contraceptive methods which can be used by the youths has been made available to most of them over the past years. However, I believe the biggest challenge is affordability and accessibility. It is therefore important that we unite in doing all we can to reduce teenage pregnancies in our society for the consequences can be far reaching.

Charamba praises Masvingo community newspapers

George Charamba

Takes a dig at Herald, ZBC

Staff Reporter

KARIBA – The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, George Charamba last week praised independent community newspapers from Masvingo province saying they were performing far much better than national daily newspapers that reach the area.
Speaking to journalists and media stakeholders at a meeting last week, Charamba said it was high time that national newspapers respected their audiences in order to remain relevant.
TellZim News and The Mirror are the only two privately-owned community newspapers in Masvingo.
“I can tell you that Masvingo community newspapers are performing far better than the Herald. I have been there several times and I was impressed. If media organisations are not careful, they can easily become irrelevant since news makers are now directly talk to their targeted audience,” said Charamba.
He accused the state-controlled media for being unprofessional by leaving critical stories from opposition political parties.
“It is not the government position that opposition political parties are not given coverage by either ZBC or Herald. We want all political parties to get a fair coverage but it is unfortunate that some managers are playing some gate-keeping and thus unprofessional,” he added.
Charamba took the opportunity to encourage journalists to improve their studies saying lack of requisite qualifications was a major cause for unethical standards in the journalism industry.local
