BIKITA – MDC-T leader, Nelson Chamisa has warned members of his party against imposition of candidates particularly in Masvingo where the selection process has been marred by deep controversy.
Chamisa was addressing a fully subscribed rally at Nyika growth point last week where he said his party will have shadow candidates in all constituencies even those allocated to alliance partners just in case the other partners put forward candidates who lack popular appeal.
“A candidate should come from the people following all the democratic processes of our party. Masvingo province, listen to this word, no one has the power to impose a candidate at any level,” said Chamisa.
 “All our candidates are chosen by the people. There is no candidate who is going to come from the top in form of imposition,” he added.
Chamisa said all the aspiring candidates should submit their Curriculum Vitae (CVs) that will then be vetted at national level with successful applicants being allowed to go for primaries.
“All aspiring candidates please submit your CVs through the proper channels. We are going to look into the CVs and your history so that we establish where you stand with regards to the party.
“We will send back the names of all those who would have sailed through the vetting process so that you choose the final candidate through primaries. Feel free, no one is going to be coerced. We are a movement for democratic change and we believe in popular democracy.
“Leaders should be subjected to appointment by popular appeal,” said Chamisa.
The candidate selection process in Masvingo province primarily in Masvingo Urban has of late drawn a lot of negative attention over perceived widespread irregularities that saw some candidates purportedly being disqualified without any apparent reasons.
Both the ruling party Zanu PF and the main opposition MDC-T are facing challenges in maintaining harmony in their respective candidate selection processes with many disqualified candidates disputing the fairness of the processes.politics

ZAKA – With many schools having taken the responsibilities of supplying their own fabric to pupils, many are failing to provide the uniforms in time regardless of having received full payment from parents and this has haunted the Roman Catholic run St Anthony Musiso High School whose pupils are learning in tack suits after the school failed to supply the already paid for uniforms.
Provincial Education Director (PED) Zedius Chitiga said pupils should go to school with uniforms and it is the parents’ duty to make sure that their kids have uniforms and it does not matter where they get the uniform as long it is the right one
“It is wrong for schools to force parents to get uniforms from the school. If they want to provide the uniforms there has to be an agreement with the parents. If they agree to it then they have to supply the uniforms in time.
“Some schools add a little extra on the uniforms but the money has to be reasonable and affordable to parents and should be used for the development of the school. If the school fails to provide the uniform then it has to let the parents buying the uniforms for their kids,” said Chitiga.
Parents who spoke to TellZim News said they were worried that the school is misusing their money as they were asked to pay $260 for girls and $265 for boys towards uniforms but the school hasn’t delivered enough uniforms.
“We were asked to pay money for the uniforms at the school and the school will supply. What is surprising is that we have reached the end of the term and yet some of our pupils are yet to get their uniforms,” said one parent who refused to be named.
Another parent expressed concern over the issue saying some pupils were given shirts only and some got trousers only and many are attending lessons in track suits and said the colors also don’t match indicating that they are bought from different suppliers.
“Our kids are attending lessons in tracksuits like they are in AFCON but we have paid all the money. The challenge is that they contract suppliers who have no capacity to deliver because they are bribed. A plain shirt costs US$5 but the school sells it for US$16, we don’t know if the logo costs 11 dollars,” said another parent.local

ZVISHAVANE – Zanu PF deputy secretary for Youth Affairs, Lewis Matutu has declared his interest for the Zvishavane Ngezi parliamentary seat sending the incumbent legislator John Holder and other aspiring candidates into panic mode.
Matutu who is a darling to the constituency stole the lime light at the independence celebrations held at Zvegona Primary School where people began chanting his name and holding placards endorsing him for the seat.
The youthful Matutu’s campaign manager Maxwell Moyo told TellZim News that the electorate have chosen their candidate and the primaries will be a formality to endorse what is now obvious.
“We have done so much and the people have shown overwhelming support. Matutu has drilled boreholes and donated cement towards the construction of school blocks in various schools,” said Moyo

Former Mwenezi East Member of Parliament who also served as Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti could best be described as a man who has seen it all in political circles.
The political nomad was fired from Zanu PF in 2014 during the ‘Gamatox purges’ before joining the opposition ZimPF which was formed by his fellow comrades dismissed from the ruling party.
When the party disintegrated, he became an independent but attempted to crawl his way back to the ruling party late last year.
Now he has joined the MDC Alliance where he has found a platform from which to attack President Emmerson Mnangagwa whom he says fares less than his predecessor Robert Mugabe in everything.
Bhasikiti described President Mnangagwa as the worst case scenario that Zanu PF has ever found itself in.
He was responding to a song which was being sung by MDC-T supporters at a rally in Bikita at Nyika growth point.
The song sought to make a point that the ‘new dispensation’ was a farce, and that Mugabe and Mnangagwa were the same.
“The song you were singing is a good one but we should not give credit where it is not due. Mugabe and Mnangagwa can never be on the same level. Mnangagwa is worse.
“At least Mugabe was a better candidate who won some votes during his term but now that he is gone, there is no one to vote for in Zanu PF leaving Chamisa with a clean sweep victory in the coming elections,” said Bhasikiti.
He said the reason why disgruntled members of the Gamatox faction and G40 were rallying behind Chamisa was because there was no one in Zanu PF worthy a ballot.politics

MASVINGO – Approximately one thousand young people turned up at the Gava Musungwa Zvinavashe Barracks, formerly 4 Brigade, on April 09 for an Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) recruitment exercise which reportedly needed less than 40 people.
Some people who failed to make it told TellZim News they were heartbroken that they failed to make it onto a programme they had hoped would be their rare opportunity for a better future.
“There was a massive response and they ended up taking only those with As in sciences. Many people failed to make it because they passed the needed subjects on two sittings. You should have seen the sad faces. Only 36 or 37 people we taken,” said one of the aspiring recruitees who failed to make it.
Rampant unemployment and desperation for economic opportunities in the country means many school leavers and graduates have to hope for the few slots in government departments that remain probably the most secure sources of employment.local

Hippo Valley Productive Sugarcane Farmers Association (HVPSFA), the fastest growing farmer association in Chiredzi, recently celebrated its fifth anniversary with a strong emphasis being put on the need to maintain the highest standards of transparency, integrity, honesty and productivity.
Members of the association acknowledged those values as necessary for the achievement of diversification of their farming ventures.
In his remarks, HVPSFA chairperson, Marius Dzinoreva urged members to work hard for the success of the association in their respective capacities, and also called for continual leadership renewal.
“Let us lead together in order to avoid life leadership. We need a servant type of leadership not lifetime leadership,” said Dzinoreva.
Recently, the organisation bagged awards from the Zimbabwe Sugarcane Association Experiment Station (ZSAES) and from the Lowveld Community Development.
At the inaugural Lowveld Community Development Awards in July last year, Dzinoreva was nominated the overall best sugarcane farmer in Hippo Valley, with the trophy going to another esteemed farmer, Rtd Major Faster Gono.
“Cde Gono’s hard work was recognised through the shield he won for the overall best sugarcane farmer in Hippo Valley Area for 2017 at the Lowveld Community Development Trust Awards. Cdes Matanga, Kanda and Jambaya and I were awarded certificates in the Hippo Valley farming area,” said Dzinoreva.
Another member of the association, Willington Chinoda, was nominated best farmer in Hippo Valley Area by ZSAES last year.
HPVSFA has a permanent office and has registered a company, Productive Sugarcane Farmers of Zimbabwe (Pvt) Ltd) to act as the grouping’s vehicle for such work as the importation of inputs.
“We have received the necessary documents to complete the change of ownership of the association’s office and are currently awaiting the Zimra Capital Gains Tax clearance certificate for finalisation of the conveyance of the office.
“The association has registered a company for the purpose of importation of inputs and other items beneficial to the association. We have also done that as part of our preparatory work in case the need arises for our farmers to directly sell their own sugar,” said Dzinoreva.
HVPSFA was formed in October 2013, with the major objective of bringing farmers together for the transformation their farming businesses.
The organisation started with 50 farmers but it now has eight more fully paid up members who joined in acknowledgment of the importance of the association’s developmental agenda.
HVPSFA boasts of a reliable human resource in the form of its chairperson, Dzinoreva, who is director in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement.
It also has a 12-member committee which has three area chairpersons for Hippo Valley West, East and Central.
The committee’s daily tasks mainly revolve around initiating close interaction among members for the purposes of strengthening mutual understanding.
Since coming together, members of HVPSFA have registered a notable increase in yields, with each farmer now able to produce, on average, 120 tons of sugarcane per hectare.
During the fifth Anniversary celebrations, Dzinoreva revealed that productivity had remarkably increased in 2016, with the association delivering 21 434 bundles of sugarcane which rose to 27 363 in 2017.
Tonnage increased by over two percent from 107 222.59 tons delivered in 2016 to 109 533.78 delivered during the 2017 farming season.
Earlier in 2017, 123 army officers from China, Tanzania, Nigeria and the SADC region who were at the Zimbabwe Staff College visited one Rtd Major Gono’s farm to draw lessons.
In August 2017, government appointed Dzinoreva as board member of the Forestry Commission after he was identified as knowledgeable in the complex forestry matters.business

We want prophets who can separate predictions from prophecies – I don’t think that Mahwende’s election victory is a prophecy at all but just a prediction. Anyway, the best advice I can give to Wellington Mahwende is do not associate yourself nezvimwe zvinhu zvemangamanga, please.   Mapombi can tell you that Makomichi is not the best brand to associate with – ask Bheji or Peri they will tell you.  Chati homu chareva!
Now to the best couple in the country – the Chiwengas. Mapombi really wonder kuti zvakambonyatsofamba sei apa because usually they say zviuya hazviwanane. I still believe that too kuti zviuya hazviwanane. A good example is Bob was a gentleman but his wife Dr Gire was something else. Dr Amai is the kind of a rural woman anoti akatsamwa anokwira pamusoro pechuru achipopota.
But Mapombi thinks VP Chiwenga and his beautiful wife, Mary is a unique couple – vese vanoda kubatsirwa! Yes, they need help. Honestly, how can a respected model be alleged to have grabbed Arda farm? Why? What for? Since when did Mary become a farmer? We know you as a model and not farmer ko manje zvekutora mafarm eArda zvava kubva nekupi?
Is this what you mean when Zanu PF says Zimbabwe is open for business? Mapombi is very sure no one would like this kind of business (grabbing farms) no matter how open the business is. I thought VP Chiwenga would whip his wife into line but eish – young wives are troublesome and uncontrollable. Bvunzai uncle Bob kana muchiti ndinonyepa.
Mapombi would like to advise the nation kuti varume roorai vakadzi vezera renyu siyanai nepwere because kana machembera you won’t be able to control them.  We have a case study – Bob and Grace. You can also use Chiwenga and Mary if you like. I will not say much otherwise ndinotumirwa zvangu masoja kuno kuChitima Market ndikaswera ndaita saKudzie Chipanga gore riye.
I still enjoy rotten bananas and maputi angu asina nzungu so I rest my case, but of course I was not coerced nor forced to say varume roorai vakadzi vezera renyu young ladies are difficult to control.
But Can someone tell VP Chiwenga that civilians operate differently from junta. Can someone remind our VP that he is no longer the Army General but now is Retired General so he must stop commandeering or using force.
Command is only used at Barracks and not to civilians, nyaya yacho hamufe makaihwina generari. Nurses are demonstrating over genuine plight so to threaten them kuti you  will fire them all and replace them with retired nurses and those who graduated from nursing schools is misplaced.
You may say that at Barracks mukabudirira but uku kwamakazouya uko hatidaro. We respect the electorate and the voice of the people is the voice of God.
With the way Chiwenga is behaving I can tell you that people should brace themselves for Command Vote. Yes, I mean it. That guy is so obsessed with commandeering that he will force people to vote for Zanu PF. Mark my words.
I think we made a big blunder by cheering and applauding the army for forcing Mugabe out of office because come elections they will force the electorate not to exercise their right to choose a leader of their own choice but will be forced to vote ED. #Command Vote thanks to VP Chiwenga.
But honestly why threatening nurses? I mean the poor nurses? Why why?
Anyway, it’s almost lunch time let me go ndindokanga hangu maputi angu for lunch but VP Chiwenga imbomirai kutyisidzira vamwe. People do not fear you anymore especially now. People will vote you out, try it. By the way I want to applaud Nelson Chamisa for attending the Independence Day Celebrations at the National Sports Stadium on Wednesday. That is what all opposition leaders must do – don’t allow Zanu PF to monopolise national events.
I have no doubt that on that decision to attend the celebrations Chamisa’s special advisor out-matched President ED’s special advisor. Kkkkkkkkk by the way is he really a special advisor? I mean Mr Chris Mutsvangwa? Is he? ZVISHAVANE – The Minister of State for Midlands Province, Owen Ncube is expected visit the town to commission a new flea market which has been under construction for the past several months.
The new flea market, constructed at a cost of US $200 000, is set to give some lucky vendors a dignified place sell their wares.
Town secretary, Tinoda Mukutu said the flea market will accommodate 400 informal traders and will contribute to the efforts being made to decongest the CBD.
“We have completed the construction of a new flea market along Buchwa Road that will house 400 traders. Our aim is to move as many vendors as possible from the pavements in order to decongest the CBD and ensure that Zvishavane is a clean town. The flea market will provide them with a clean environment to operate from and they will be expected to maintain those standards,” said Mukutu.
He also said informal traders will be moving into the new place as soon as it is commissioned, which is likely to happen before the end of April. He said the commissioning was initially scheduled for the April 20 but was postponed to a later date.
Vendors in the mining town have expressed their gratitude to the council for constructing the flea market right where they are already conducting their business.
“We are very happy that council is not moving us to a new area which is further from our customers. The new flea market is just behind where we are right now so our customers will still find us,” said one female vendor.local

MASVINGO – Deputy Minister of agriculture Davis Marapira has been accused of abusing presidential inputs to gain political mileage in his Masvingo North constituency as Zanu PF gears towards primary elections on May 5.
Sources who spoke to this publication on anonymity confirmed that they witnessed the ferrying of three by 30 tonnes of fertilisers and other presidential inputs products left at Grain Marketing Board (GMB) Masvingo Depot to Masvingo North.
There are also allegations that some of the inputs were kept for more than three months at Matove Primary School in his constituency.
Matove Primary School head, Munashe Sorofa confirmed that there were agricultural inputs kept at his school but refused to mention the owner and referred all questions the School Development Committee (SDC) Chairperson.
“I’m on my way to the school from Mashava. I was phoned to bring the keys to the room where the inputs are kept since they are being distributed today (Thursday). The SDC chairperson asked for permission to keep the inputs and I think it’s now three months but I’m not sure who the owner is. Maybe the chairperson knows,” said Sorofa.
Marapira told TellZim News that the presidential input scheme is an ongoing process and all districts were being covered.
“It’s an ongoing process and we are allocating these inputs to all districts in the province. These are mere allegations that associate with every leader but the truth is we are distributing them equally to every constituency,” said Marapira.local

MASVINGO – The Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) together with the Zimbabwe Insurance Brokers (ZIB) hosted the driver of the year awards for Masvingo City Council at Civic Centre as part of efforts to promote responsible driving behaviour.
The competition saw 11 out of the 15 drivers participating in the theory test and supervisor assessment, with only six drivers qualifying for the awards. It was, however, Macknight Mapeziweni who beat everybody else to claim the top spot with 91.5 percent.
Mapeziweni walked away with a certificate and US$150 in cash while Abious Charuma walked away with a certificate and US$100 after emerging at number two with 90.5 percent.
Givermore Magaa took the third position with 89.5 and was awarded a certificate and US$50 in cash while Daniel Tongofa was awarded a certificate only for scoring 86.5 percent,
Kemson Muneni and Kaipa Takasiyana scored 86 percent each, and both of them were given certificates.
Speaking at the event, ZIB representative Mercy Charamba said the insurance industry acknowledged the importance of good driving habits hence the support given to the programme.
TSCZ regional manager Georgina Mateta, who was the guest of honour, encouraged drivers to observe good driving behaviour to avoid accidents.
“Plus or minus 2000 people die per year due to accidents and 94 percent is caused by human error, five percent is caused by vehicle faults and only one percent is caused by the roads.
“As Zimbabwe Traffic Safety Council, we encourage all drivers to have a passion for the job they do in order to avoid road accidents that result from human error. Drivers must always have a good attitude when on the road,” Mateta said.local
