MDC Masvingo factional wars reach boiling point

Factionalism within the MDC-T has reached a boiling point in Masvingo, plunging the whole province into chaos after the district recommended the suspension of City of Masvingo mayor, Hubert Fidze and five other district executives on charges of insubordination, triggering a groundswell of anger and discontent within structures.
In response to the suspensions, disgruntled party members are now calling for the fall of the district.
The Masvingo Urban constituency has become a hotbed within the MDC structures after some heavyweights among them Takanai Mureyi, Bonface Mazarire and Tongai Matutu said to be vying for the seat in the forthcoming elections.
Matutu, who came back to MDC-T after abandoning the Tendai Biti-led People’s Democratic Party (PDP), announced he was not interested in any position but was content with being a card carrying member.
Meanwhile, Matutu has embarked on philanthropic work of paying school fees for underprivileged pupils in the constituency, a move which has irked the district executive, which feels the former Masvingo Urban legislator is undermining their authority to position himself to take the seat.
Two weeks ago, Matutu organised an event where he handed school uniforms and fees to the underprivileged and the event was graced by Fidze and other members from the district who have now been served with suspension letters.
Among the suspended district executive members are Philip Mugabe, Elizabeth Mahachi and Thokozile Muchuchuti. Matutu was himself given a prohibition order while Fidze was recommended to the province for a disciplinary hearing.
The prohibition letter sent to Matutu ordered him to stop conducting party business and directed him to return party property which is said to be in his possession.
“You are warned not to run party programmess without the knowledge and approval of the district. Furthermore, now that you are back in the party after a break away, we advise you to surrender party assets that went missing during your tenure as the provincial secretary.
“You are further advised to service and maintain a party truck which you vandalised during your break away,” reads the letter signed by Masvingo Urban district secretary general Faustino Murambatsvina.
Masvingo Urban district also delivered a letter to the provincial chairperson James Gumbi recommending disciplinary against Fidze for attending ‘an unsanctioned meeting’.
“We write to inform you that the Mayor of Masvingo Hubert Fidze blessed an unsanctioned party meeting sponsored by Tongai Matutu. Given that he is a provincial member, we recommend that you institute necessary disciplinary action,” reads the letter.
MDC-T Masvingo provincial chairperson James Gumbi said he was yet to be briefed on the issue, adding that the province will see to it that the matter is resolved amicably if it reaches his office.
“It sounds funny that people are suspended for attending a function which does not have anything to do with politics. I haven’t been briefed but once I do I will give you the full details.
“We are having a provincial meeting on Sunday so if the matter comes to my office, we will put it on the agenda,” said Gumbi.
Mureyi, on the other hand, urged members to be united and prepare for the forthcoming elections. He said there was no bad blood between him and other candidates, urging members of the party to feel free to vote for candidates of their choice.
“I believe in unity. We should be united and have that democratic right to vote for candidates of our own choice. People should respect the party constitution and the leadership must unite the people,” said Mureyi.
MDC-T Veterans Activist Association (VAA) Masvingo provincial chairperson Tichaona Chiminya slammed the district for what he said was a push for factional agendas.
“We cannot be found creating fissures in the party at this point in time. We have an election by the corner and we do not want to suspend people for no apparent reason. You cannot just wake up and think you want to suspend someone and just do it without following proper party procedures.
“There is no solid case to warrant any suspensions. We need everyone and we cannot afford to suspend each other now with few months before the election,” said Chiminya.
On his part, Matutu said he had no case to answer since his donation was not a party event but was organised at personal level.
“People should be able to separate Matutu the man and Matutu the politician. Not everything I do is politically-motivated so there is no need to let the district know other things I do at personal level.
“I like helping people and it is my calling. The district is offside and there is drought of reasoning among our leaders. How can they recommend disciplinary action against the mayor because he has done his civic duties?
“Cllr Fidze occupies a civic office, meaning that at times his position may force him to attend even events organised by people with links to Zanu PF. Why make noise now because he has graced Matutu’s function?” said Matutu.top news

Police bosses protecting fake prophet

0

It’s everywhere! Zvazara – even at my place at Chitima market people are talking about it. Asi hamunyare makaita seiko? Zuro ndizuro it was Chihuri being accused of corruption but now it seems the rot has cascaded down to provincial and district levels in the force. People are really losing the little confidence in our police. Many of them behave like ndivo vakatanga Zanu PF and they always try to bend the law so that they can please those in Zanu PF.
Do you still remember how police beat up Tsvangirai and other MDC supporters gore riya? How they banned a High Court-approved MDC-T rally in Zvishavane last year? Many of them are not professional at all; but now that Mugabe is gone handei tione! Mapombi knows very well that the majority will go home chete handiti Chihuri wakabaya madhongi achikuma. I thought Chihuri was invincible ka ini all along – in fact I thought he was the founding director of ZRP because aiita madiro aGeorgina chaiwo.
We are still seeing some officers with that mentality yekufunga kuti police ndeyavo vanoita zvavanoda nayo – it’s just a matter of time comrades. Mapombi now understands why even ED prefers army to police on his security team. Anyway, I will not go deeper on that one otherwise I will raffle feathers tikapedzesera tava kupiwa macharges of treason nekuti tikaramba tava kutaurisa words like COUP will be unavoidable.
But Mapombi was disturbed by the news she got recently about how some senior police officers at Central are protecting a well-known fake prophet who runs a what what Ministries church. The pastor is fake and a number of dockets have been opened against him but nyaya dzingotsikwa-tsikwa simply because some police bosses go to his church where they are given very false prophecies.
The prophet recently impregnated two ladies from the church and Mapombi heard one of the girls is 17-year-old. The prophet is now forcing the girl to abort because vava kutya jere. Mapombi heard that the issue is now an open secret kuchurch but the police bosses are making frantic efforts to block the girl from opening a docket against the self-proclaimed prophet. Hamunyare makaita seiko?
Ko nhai shefu Mofolo munoregereiko zvakadaro zvichiitika. It’s the talk of the town and imagine mukazoonawo isu vana Mapombi tozvinzwawo kwedu kuChitima uku. I’m sure even Makedenge or Ncube are aware of it – ko zvinozivikanwa nemunhu wese kani. Please madam, we want to see justice taking its course. We don’t care about him being a fake prophet but his open zip policy preying on innocent young girls, underage for that matter! Aaah kusanyara chaiko!
Anyway, Mapombi will not waste much time on this fake prophet but ndakagara ndazvitaura kare kuti tumachurch tunopindirwa kuma industry kana muma garage hatuna maturo. Industries and garages are not for churches, please. Haaa zvakangokonzereswawo nekamudhara kaye kekwaZvimba kakavondonga economy kusvika macompany avhara.
Mapombi still suspects that Zanu PF has a hand mukurwara kwaMorgiza chete. I’m not saying Zanu inogadzira cancer but mukabvunza Bob zvakanyatsonaka anokutsemurirai gure rese. Maybe for those who do not know, there are chemicals ekuti akaisiwa mucup obva abvisiwa cup yosukwa, the chemical will remain potent for years and if one uses that cup to drink tea, one would consume the chemical bit by bit, causing cancer.
Anyway, God is the giver and taker of life. Kurwara hakusiko kufa – may Tsvangirai get well soon. Mapombi heard kuri kubvira chimoto chaiko. Kkkkkkk power is too sweet I guess. I heard Chamisa, Mudzuri, Khupe and Mukoma Doug vese vari kudawo chinzvimbo chaSave ichochi. Ahh hanzi naMwonzorawo. Mapombi is not so educated but I can tell you that Zanu PF will win the elections rakacheka nyika if the MDC fails to put its house in order. Musazoti handina kutaura.
But MDC-T so, mahwani. Those guys are a big joke. Mapombi heard MDC-T Masvingo urban district executive has been unleashed and is calling members for hearings for no apparent reason because some are afraid that their preferred candidates will lose elections if rivals are not quickly taken care of. Kkkkkk how can you suspend Hubert Fidze of all the people? Ko Tongai Matutu aita problem yei hake aita donation to the less privileged? I bet with the last drop of my blood that MDC-T will never win elections with this kind of attitude and behaviour. Kufanana neZanu PF here inongosunga maG40 chete? Ngwarai mhani imi makaita Seiko? Kuita sevana vakazvarirwa pabarika kudai.
It’s almost lunch time guys let me go ndindozvikangira zvangu maputi angu ndizvidyire, kutyei zvangu munyika yakatorerwa Mugabe nana mukoma ikapiwa ED. These days I’m enjoying big time because rotten bananas ari tii ndiri kutombomabikisa kachasu zvangu.  Before I go, did I hear correctly that Mphoko once attempted to take over imba yaJoice Mujuru yaaigara yegovernment? Can someone tell me kuti aingova manyepo because Mphoko haangambodaro mhani. What I can agree kuti Mhpoko can do is to go and stay in a five star hotel even for two years. I will miss Mphoko for sure. Mboko imboko!mapombi

Dunira dreams big for Masvingo Urban

MASVINGO – Zanu PF provincial secretary for production and labour Godhati Dunira says he is casting the net wide in his hopes and aspirations to build a better and productive Masvingo Urban constituency in support of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision.
In an interview with TellZim News, Dunira said it was time to put political differences aside and push for the development of Masvingo using a collective approach.
“I have a dream for Masvingo Urban and the province as a whole. In this new dispensation, let’s hold hands and put our efforts into action. We are not going to leave anyone behind in this new dispensation.
“Development should cut across all facets of society and we want this constituency to speak development,” said Dunira.
He said in a developed Masvingo Urban constituency, there will be no vendors in the Central Business District (CBD) but all will be operating from designated areas.
“Vendors are all over the town and oftentimes, you see them in running battles with the police and council officers. Their wares are confiscated and I do not subscribe to that. We need to build proper vending sites for all vendors.
“We need to do away with mishika-shika and probably help those in the trade to properly register their vehicles. I have a dream of a clean Masvingo Urban where everyone will be doing their business to develop the constituency,” said Dunira.
“We need to empower each other for real and not cosmetically. People should be employed genuinely and not politicking. We do not need promises but we need action.
“The Chimusana Bridge has to be upgraded and the trunk sewer project started by the city fathers has to be completed. We need to mend broken fences and rope everyone into development,” said Dunira.top news

MDC-T confident of Midlands clean sweep

Munyaradzi Mutandavari

…. ‘despite Zanu PF intimidation’

Exsto Makunzva

ZVISHAVANE – The Morgan Tsvangirai-led Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) is confident of an overwhelming win in the Midlands despite what the opposition party’s leadership in the province allege to be widespread intimidation of voters by the ruling Zanu PF party.
MDC-T Midlands south spokesperson, Munyaradzi Mutandavari accused Zanu PF of engaging its usual gears of intimidation.
“Zanu PF is aware that people desperately need change as evidenced by the high voter registration turnout in the districts. They have responded with intimidation because they are afraid of the people but we will not be held back. How come meetings that are called by village heads and other traditional leaders are turned into Zanu PF meetings,” said Mutandavari.
He also said Zvishavane had 30 000 registered voters, a figure which he claimed showed that people were taking the upcoming elections seriously.
MDC-T secretary for elections Dr Takavafira Zhou corroborated the incidents of intimidation of people by Zanu PF in Mberengwa.
He said in Mberengwa North, three village heads; Danisa, Ndavambi and Mugwisiwa, recently summoned all registered voters to bring their registration slips for recording of serial numbers and for use for food distribution.
“Traditional leaders and Zanu PF officials invite the people supposedly for food aid and inputs distribution but only to demand that the people must submit serial numbers of their registration slips.
“They are then threatened against voting for the opposition, using the serial numbers as a scare tactic,” said Dr Zhou, adding that incidents of that kind happened recently in Dhanga and Danisa village near Mt Mberengwa business centre under Chief Mapiravana.
Dr Zhou said Jubheki Machova, popularly known as (baba vaEdias), called for a meeting where village heads Danisa, Ndavambi and Mugwisa were ordered to summon all people with 18 years of age and above.
The three village heads allegedly demanded that all registered voters surrender their registration slips.
The same is said to have happened in Shurugwi South.politics

Siyabonga Sayi

GWERU – People at the magistrates’ court in Gweru were stunned when a man who was found guilty of domestic violence begged the court to give him community service instead of setting him free.
Tongai Zireni (43) of Mkoba 2 was found guilty of domestic violence as defined in Section 3[1] as read with section 4[1] of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16.
Zireni, who did not have legal representation, stunned the court when he begged magistrate Judith Taruvinga for community service when his 5 months prison sentence was conditionally suspended in full.
The magistrate however rejected the request and explained to him the implication of community service in light of the fact that he had a family to take care of.
The court heard that on January 2 this year Zireni communicated to her wife via a text message to the phone of his wife’s niece stating that he wanted to commit suicide because he was suspecting his wife of cheating.
His wife’s niece went to talk to him and the two returned home in Mkoba 2 were a misunderstanding between Zireni and his wife Kupurai Vhengere over the cheating allegations arose.
The court heard that Zireni then assaulted his wife with open hands and feasts on the head and stomach.

Heavy hailstorm destroys two schools in Gutu

Chinonga Primary School after the hailstorm

Shumbairerwa Primary School in the aftermath of the hailstorm

Precila Takabvirakare

GUTU – The effects of a heavy, violent and windy hailstorm that occurred on January 09 is still being felt by two primary schools, Shumbairerwa and Chinanga that now have to cope with reduced capacity.
The day started as the other normal opening days but it ended with an unexpected hailstorm that started at around 14: 00 hrs and lasted up to 19: 00 hrs.
At Chinanga, which is in Ward 13 under Chief Mazuru, the storm blew off roofing sheets from two 2 x 2 classroom blocks which housed grades 3, 4, 5 and ECD. Four classrooms out of the available eight were affected, leaving the school to manage with only four classrooms housing about 240 pupils from ECD A up to grade seven.
The asbestos sheets that were sept off the roof hit other sheets thereby creating holes on them.
District Schools Inspector (DSI) Sonny Chirikure said the heads of the affected schools were advised to engage Gutu Rural District Council (RDC) as the responsible authority and the District Administrator (DA) who is the head of the Civil Protection Unit (CPU).
“We have forwarded our report to the PED for the ministry to see what they can do to assist, because as the ministry, we are supposed to follow the right channels,” said Chirikure.
Speaking to TellZim News, Chinanga Primary School head, Ettie Makarudze said the storm was violent and some books in classrooms were soiled.
“I however felt relieved because it happened after we had dismissed the school pupils so there were no any reports of injuries,” said Makarudze.
At Shumbairerwa Primary School, under Chief Munyaradzi, two staff houses accommodating student teachers had their roofs destroyed, leaving furniture to be socked in rain.
Three classroom blocks also lost their roofs and they still pose a danger to learners and staff members alike.
School head Kirion Nzuwa said that his own office was not spared as water found its way through various week points.
“In trying to cope with the situation, the school has allocated one room each to the affected teachers at other houses that were not heavily affected,” said Nzuwa.local

‘Universities should lead to development’

Permanent secretary in the Higher Education ministry, Desire Sibanda with Prof  Rungano Zvobgo and Prof Amon  Murwira touring the Herbert Chitepo Law School

Clever Taperamoyo

MASVINGO – The Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Professor Amon Murwira on Monday held an engagement meeting with Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) where ideas on more qualitative higher education were shared.
In his keynote address stakeholders at GZU’s Herbert Chitepo Law School, Prof Murwira urged universities to conduct studies that contribute to national development, promising that resources will be channeled towards collaborative research that bring economic growth.
"Universities must now grow the industry themselves rather than producing graduates to be incorporated by industries that do not exist. The ministry will unveil resources where there is opportunity for development not for basic individual researches.
"Let us think about employing people rather than chasing them away but this can only be achieved through high productivity," said Prof Murwira.
The minister also explained the importance academic freedom in building confidence in the local education sector.
"We want to bring new confidence in our education system by allowing researchers to work alone. We want to respect our academia by avoiding too much interference but they should be productive," Prof Murwira said.
He also emphasised the need to construct high standard infrastructure in tertiary institutions and to have partnership with the private sector for the construction of affordable accommodation for the large numbers of students in the country.
He said the ministry already had engagements with banks in an effort to provide students loans instead of student grants.
"We were depending much on philanthropy; packaging our poverty and selling it, busy writing proposals for donations. Let us desist from that and have a culture of selling opportunities," he added.
Speaking at the same event, GZU Vice Chancellor, Prof Rungano Zvobgo said the institution had collaborations with other universities around the country and abroad.
"We are running a viable agricultural programme in the Lowveld which starts at certificate level going up to diploma level. Now we are offering a degree and the university should have a radio station in few months to come," Prof Zvobgo said.education
