Zaka woman dies after bee attack

ZAKA – Tariro Matiki of Muchimbiri village under chief Ndanga died last week after she was attacked by a swarm of bees while trying to save her grandchildren from the same bees.
A close relative to the deceased confirmed the death and said Matiki’s grandchildren were attacked by the bees while hunting and when she tried to help them by covering them with her clothes, the bees turned against her.
“Her grandchildren were chasing a wild cat with their dogs just close to the homestead. The cat climbed onto a tree which was home to a beehive. The rattled bees attacked the people at home and Matiki took off her clothes to cover the boys before the bees turned onto her,” said the relative.
The relative said she was attacked in the full view of other villagers including her husband but they could not help her.
She was later rushed to Ndanga District Hospital where she was pronounce dead on arrival. The person who rushed her to hospital was also admitted for treatment of bee bites and was later discharged.local

Gumbo to rejoin Zanu PF

Rugare Gumbo

Itai Muzondo in Gweru

GWERU – Rugare Gumbo made a surprise appearance at the Midlands State University (MSU)’s 17th graduation ceremony, sat at the high table reserved for VIPs and later indicated that he was amenable to rejoining Zanu PF.
Gumbo, who was the Zanu PF secretary for information, was fired from the party in 2014 during the Gamatox purges that also claimed the scalps of other bigwigs like Joice Mujuru, Didymus Mutasa and Nicholas Goche.
He has been associated with opposition politics ever since, having teamed up Mujuru and others to form Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) which later broke up to pieces some months ago.
In an interview with TellZim News, Gumbo said he had ‘no problem working in solidarity’ with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government now that Robert Mugabe is gone.
“I think it’s proper to be working in solidarity with President Mnangagwa because there is no bad blood between us. Those who chased us out are no longer there so I attended this ceremony as a way of making fruitful interactions with people that I hold no grudge against,” Gumbo said.
He also made it clear he was ‘making consultations’ with people he has been working with in the opposition in order to know if they are comfortable with him moving back to Zanu PF.
“I can’t really say I have re-joined Zanu PF but we are currently making consultations with our supporters on the rightful move to make. Politics is about people and when people speak, nothing will stop me from rejoining Zanu PF. I will also definitely come back to you with our position once we are done with consultations,” Gumbo said.
Many former party heavyweights expelled in 2014 have been making groveling statements about Mnangagwa, with Kudakwashe Basikiti and Claudius Makova announcing last week that they were going back to the ruling party.local

Mutare council out to restore ‘sanity’

…vendors flee streets in fear of crackdown

Lloyd Shunje

MUTARE – City of Mutare has partnered with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) in a massive cleanup campaign aimed at removing illegal vendors and flushing out touts from hotspots in the CBD and Sakubva high density suburb.
Dubbed ‘Operation Restore Sanity’, the exercise began early this week and illegal vendors, who hitherto had seemed to have permanently settled on pavements in the CBD and around Sakubva Bus Terminus, were seen packing their wares and moving back to designated areas.
Speaking to TellZim News, Mutare City Council spokesperson Spren Mutiwi said vendors and touts had been given a two-day ultimatum to comply as the city wanted ‘to reclaim its pride as the cleanest city in Zimbabwe’.
“The operation has started today (Monday) and illegal vendors have been given a two-day ultimatum to move out of town and revert to their designated sites.
“This is an aggressive operation that will bring order and sanity and we want to reclaim our status as the cleanest city in Zimbabwe,” said Mutiwi.
He warned public transport operators to desist from engaging services of touts.
“We want the rank marshal and tout menace to disappear from Mutare. All commuter and long-distance bus operators should desist from engaging touts. It is disturbing to note that a number of people have lost valuable items through theft due to the influx of touts at various bus terminus,” said Mutiwi.
Members of the public who spoke to Tellzim News welcomed the operation urging the council to adopt a zero tolerance especially to touts.
“We could no longer travel in peace because of touts. They would harass and sometimes steal from people. We hope this will continue in the CBD and the main rank in Sakubva,” said Takunda Mudzimiri.local

Vendors resist NSSA plan for informal economy

MASVINGO – Vendors in Masvingo have demanded that the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) must work to ensure their safety against harassment by the city council officials and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
The demands were made at a Zimbabwe Chambers of Informal Economy Associations (ZCIEA) workshop held at Mucheke Hall recently.
Addressing the informal sector business operators, ZCIEA secretary general Wisbon Malaya made it clear that vendors would resist current suggestions that they make contributions to the authority unless they secure the freedom to do their work without hindrances.
“As vendors, we are declaring today that we are not going to pay a penny to NASSA or join their funeral policy until they make sure that we are granted security in the city just like other businesses,” Malaya said.
Malaya also claimed that 94 percent of workers in Zimbabwe were sweating it out in the informal economy, and argued that the enormous size of that sector made it obligatory for authorities to treat vendors with respect.
Most participants agreed with Malaya, promising not to cooperate with NSSA as long as they keep on getting harassed by authorities.
Other people later told TellZim News that NSSA was so tainted by corruption that they will not entrust their hard-earned money to it given the endless reports of misuse of funds and maladministration at the State-run social security agency.
Collen Chikova, a NSSA representative who was present at the ZCIEA workshop, promised to take the grievances of the informal traders to his superiors.local

Zim Super Seeds celebrates six years of quality seed production

Brighton Chiseva

MASVINGO – Zimbabwe Super Seeds (ZSS) celebrated its six years by inviting famers and other stakeholders for a three-day workshop held at Flamboyant Hotel this week.
ZSS managing director Nelson Munyaka said the conference was meant, among other things, to increase awareness on climate change.
“We are celebrating continuous supply of smart seeds to the country from 2011 to 2017. We also want to provide a learning platform for various stakeholders on the work they are doing in relation to seed supply and food security.
“We have brought together researchers, farmers, extension practitioners and industry to share experiences, compare notes and develop a common vision,” said Munyaka.
Farmers who attended the workshop praised ZSS for being an indigenous company which produces quality seeds that are in agreement with local climatic conditions and soil types.
Other stakeholders present included researchers from Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) University of Zimbabwe (UZ) and Chinhoyi University Technology (CUT)
The company was formed in the 2011/12 cropping season in Zaka district. By then, it was called Zaka Super Seeds but was later renamed Zimbabwe Super Seeds.
In 2013, ZSS spread to Masvingo and Gutu, and in 2015, to Mutasa and Makoni with Mwenezi, Mberengwa and Bikita being 2016 additions.
“The marketing of ZSS seeds is now going national. We have increased output from 460 to 1 160 metric tonnes; representing a 152 percent production growth rate,” said Munyaka.local

Minister Hungwe: Mnangagwa’s joke of the year for Masvingo

0

Mapombi once told you that vazhinji muchandofarira n’anga neinobata mai zvino chionai zvamava kuitirwa naiye Mnangagwa wenyu uyu. I know it’s now risky to say more truth about Mnangagwa because he is now the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe. Unosungwa kana kunyangariswa zvakaitiwa Itai Dzamara gore riye.
But Mapombi is always a gentleman handivanzi zvangu ndinofira kureva ini. Mapombi has been on record saying our new president is somehow being overrated – the blunder of appointing eight non-constituency MPs (technocrats) to his cabinet is enough evidence kuti zvinozikanwa chaizvo zvishoma. Thank God those who know better advised him and recalled vana Dofora, Dokora I mean and few others.
Mnangagwa was the leader of the house since 2013 and has been in government since 1980 but making such a silly blunder leaves a lot of questions kuti was the blunder genuine or deliberate? Deliberate in the sense that they wanted to test people and see reaction, and if there was no reaction, they would go on and breach the constitution. Zimbabweans should be very careful with this new leadership because it has the potential to do unconstitutional things.
Mapombi, however, is happy that Dokora is gone. Murume uya waindiitisa heart burn – chirungurira chaicho. There were wild celebrations again in the country when Dokora was recalled – murume wendebvu uya wanga asingachadiwe chokwadi zvanga zviri take take nabob pakusachadiwa. Mapombi even doubts his doctorate; is he really a doctor (PhD)? Or ndezvedu zvana Dr Gire zvekumuka wangopiwa? Kkkkkkk but Grace so mahwani; that lady probably needs more help than we think because I doubt if she is mentally stable.
But naiye Nyagura anazvowo futi; how can he reduce our education to that level? How come he gave Marujata a doctorate (PhD) in just three months? Honestly, that degree must be revoked as soon as possible or else Nyagura must fall. Takaresva here kukuita Vice Chancellor weUZ zvawava kupa maPhD in just 3 months? Kana takaresva tikudonhedze mangwana chaiye.
Anyway, there are more critical issues to attend to than wasting time talking about history – I mean Grace is now history! We now have Auxillia as the First Lady. Kkkkkkk but Mapombi heard ndopamwewo pane nyaya ipo paye hanzi kwake uko vanotomuti Okusurira instead of Auxillia kkkkkkkk. Hameno regai tione but the best advice I can give to the President is that madzimai ngaasiyane nepolitics vangofamba vari parutivi imi muchiita basa henyu.
Very few new Grace was such a nuisance before she joined active politics but paakazodzijoina ndopatakaona kuti hapana nezvemukadzi. In fact mudhara Bob vanga vari patight paya or shall I say vachitori patight nekuti Marujata is one of a kind. Anyway, the simple point is Auxillia ngaachisiyana nepolitics aiite zvekufamba nababa. Period.
But Mr President I heard you said you have hit the ground running but I want to say take it easy please because speed yacho muri kuita too many blunders; mind you kumhanya handiko kusvika hamba pole pole! We all want to see some positive changes especially in the economy – we want cash in the banks because the queues are just too many.
Mapombi however, disagrees with some of the appointments you did – they have nothing to do with improving the economy but securing your position and furthering your personal interests. How can you appoint Josaya Hungwe to be the Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs? Hungwe of all the politicians in the province? This is purely rewarding a loyal cadre than looking at merits. There are quite a number of able politicians, young and energetic but Mnangagwa decided kutiisira hake kamudhara kaye simply because he is a top ally. Hungwe takes bootlicking even to a higher level when he was appointed Minister of State recently. It is the same Hungwe who has been governor for Masvingo for 17 years akabva asina kana chaamboita chinorangaririka. The guy is just too old. Mapombi can confidently tell you that the late Shuvai Mahofa was far much better than Hungwe – ndoanonzi mashura atakaitirwa naMnangagwa aya.
In fact, Mnangagwa has dampened people’s hopes. His cabinet sums it all kuti hapana zvinombonyanyozikanwa apa. He just inherited Mugabe’s cabinet and blended it a bit which is a clear indication that very few things, if there is any, will change for the better. Obert Mpofu allegedly indulged in gross corruption when he was minister of Mines but Mnangagwa gave him the Home Affairs ministry nonetheless. The self-proclaimed obedient son is not obedient at all. In fact he was not supposed to be part of the new government.
And to Christopher Mutsvangwa – please don’t ever make a mistake of thinking that everyone is dull. Your behavior of lying to the public cannot be tolerated anymore. Initially, you lied and celebrated while in South Africa that Mugabe had resigned when in actual fact, he had not. Few days ago you lied that MDC-T and other opposition party leaders demanded to be part of the government and that they threatened to recall their MPs if they were to be appointed ministers by Mnangagwa. MDC-T has since distanced itself from your statement and even challenged you to name the person who said it.
Please Mutsvangwa hatisi vana vako isu vaunonyepera like that. I wonder what kind of a Special Advisor to the President will you be if you have the guts to mislead the whole nation like that. You once said that you doubted the speech that Mugabe gave when he was under house arrest and suggested that it originated from Professor Jonathan Moyo.  The past few weeks exposed what kind of a leader Mutsvangwa is; munhu anofunga kuti vanhu vese vakapusa so they should be fed with lies. You are wrong Cde Chris, very wrong!
Anyway, it’s almost lunch time let me go ndindokanga hangu maputi angu for lunch ndizvidyire ndigoseredzera with rotten bananas. Ko ngoma ndiyo ndiyo nothing has changed on my menu anongova maputi and rotten bananas – I thought things would immediately change kubva Munangagwa zvaakaita take over from the Zvimba old man but hapana hapana. By the way I heard Mphoko came back from self-exile in Botswana. Kkkkkkkk that guy Mphoko kkkkkk. Anyway, it’s of no point talking much about him because I heard neVPs will be appointed soon and Chiwenga hanzi ari kutokwanakwana ipapo. Ko chinhu chavo mungavadii? Hapana zvatingakuitai asi pana Hungwe tipeiwo maserious, please. Mboko imboko!mapombi

Prof Moyo mocks Mnangagwa’s honourary doctorate

President Emmerson Mnangagwa

…says it’s a shameless disregard of standards

Itai Muzondo in Gweru

GWERU – Former Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Prof Jonathan Moyo last week attacked the conferment of President Emmerson Mnangagwa with a Honourary Doctor of Law Degree, saying it was shameless disregard of protocol.
Mnangagwa was given the honourary degree during a graduation ceremony held at Midlands State University (MSU) held on December 2.
Prof Moyo argued that no such honour can properly be awarded in the absence of a university chancellor.
“For the State University to offer its Chancellor an Honourary Doctorate, there’s a process between council, the Vice Chancellor, the Minister and the Chancellor. In this case there was no Minister and no Chancellor. This is a shameless disregard of standards,” Prof Moyo lashed out in a Twitter rant.
The new cabinet was announced on November 30 but ministers only took oath of office on December 4, meaning the new Higher Education minister Prof Amon Murwira had not effectively assumed office prior to that.
Mnangagwa, who capped 6 612 graduates, was installed MSU chancellor at the same occasion and he thanked the university for honouring him.
“It is a great honour to be invited to be the second chancellor of this great university. My sincere thanks also go to those who have made it possible for this installation ceremony to materialise and for me to be eased into this great office on this scholarly platform and into this majestic and weighty robe.
“I was indeed part of the team that lobbied government and the national leadership then on the need to establish a national university in the Midlands province. I remember very vividly the intensity and incisive debates that took place then as we navigated through obstacles, snags and other impediments all in a bid to perfect the ideas that would give birth to this grand institution,” Mnangagwa said.
It is said MSU had always wanted to honour Mnangagwa but was being blocked by fear of Robert Mugabe who reportedly did not like the idea.politics

Chikombedzi ZAOGA pastor helps church member to marry ‘second’ wife

Ezekiel Guti

Anesushe Mamhute

CHIREDZI – A Chikombedzi woman has threatened to engage the Zimbabwe Assemblies for God Africa (ZAOGA) leader Apostle Ezekiel Guti over a matter in which she accuses the local pastor of helping her husband to marry a second wife.
Rugare Mago accuses Pastor Chauke of giving his blessings to the marriage between her husband Solomon Ngonyamo and a woman identified as Margaret Ndlovu.
“I was shocked when I was told that banns on the marriage between my husband and the new woman were made. The pastor allowed those marriage announcements to be made when he knew fully well that I am still married to my husband. I am thinking to go a seek help from Bishop Guti in Harare,” said Mago.
The marriage between Ngonyamo and Ndlovu was solemnised by Overseer Barnabas Makonde and stamped at the Chiredzi Regional Magistrates’ Court on November 30 despite an ex-parte application of interdict to bar the marriage having been made by Mago a day before the marriage.
“I contracted an unregistered customary law union with Ngonyamo in 2002. Two children were born in this union of which all the children are still minors.
“On November 15, I was informed that my husband had posted banns with the intention to marry Margret and I contacted Overseer Chauke to cancel the banns but he refused,” reads the interdict, which was signed by the Clerk of Court and dated November 29.
After being served with an interdict, Ngonyamo and Pastor Chauke instructed their lawyers, Zimbodza and Associates to apply for a peace order barring Mago from attending the wedding.
The peace order draft indicates that Ngonyamo had given Rugare a token of divorce (gupuro) in the presence of her aunt on the grounds of infidelity.
“Sometime in 2016, I had a misunderstanding with the respondent due to infidelity on the part of respondent who was having an affair. On the first incidence, I forgave her but she however remained unfaithful in the marriage.
“On the 2nd incidence, I caught the respondent red-handed in the act of infidelity and that led to the termination of our customary law union by me giving her a divorce token in the presence of her aunt, who came and collected (sic) her and they informed me that she was going to have a new husband,” reads part of the peace order.
When Mago’s namesake aunt was contacted for comment, she said she knew nothing about the divorce, claiming that no divorce token was ever given to her niece as far as she knew.
“Handina chandinoziva maererano nekurambana kwaRugare nemurume wake nekuti hapana gupuro raakapiwa kuratidza kuti havachasi vese. Solomon anondiziva satete nekuti pavakaroorana vakauya nemumaoko angu asi mashoko ekurambana kwavo handisati ndamaziva,” said Rugare Mago, who bears the same name as her niece.local

Mugabe smarter than ED – Hungwe

Josaya Hungwe

…says Zanu PF will use soldiers in 2018 election campaign
…Rtd Brig-Gen Chineka weeps in PCC

Upenyu Chaota

MASVINGO – The newly-appointed Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs Josaya Hungwe stunned party members during a Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting when he revealed that Team Lacoste faction had to use the army after they had been outsmarted by Generation 40 (G40) faction. Hungwe added that the defeat by G40 was a clear indication that former president Robert Mugabe was smarter than his successor President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The Masvingo Godfather revealed that the reason why the military ‘stepped in’ to elbow out Mugabe and the G40 faction was because Mnangagwa and Lacoste faction had completely failed.
Addressing a charged PCC last Sunday at the Show Grounds, Hungwe, who introduced a new party slogan ‘Pamberi neNgwena’, equated Mnangagwa to Biblical Nehemiah who fled from his country and later sought permission to return to his homeland to rebuild what was broken.
Hungwe said it was going to be impossible for Mnangagwa to remove former Higher and Tertiary Education minister Professor Jonathan Moyo and other top G40 ring leaders adding that only army commander General Constantino Chiwenga had the power to remove the former President and the G40 cabal.
Hungwe further equated Zanu PF to Jerusalem which was burnt to the ground by King Nebuchadnezzar (G40) while Nehemiah (juxtaposed to President Emmerson Mnangagwa) helped the Israelites (Lacoste) to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem with soldiers on guard.
“Jerusalem had been burnt down and Nehemiah was so sad about it. He wished to go back and rebuild the walls of Jerusalem so that the Israelites would be safe. Nehemiah was asked what his master King Artaxerxes could help with and he asked to be let go and rebuild the Walls of Jerusalem.
“Asi Mambo akaziva kuti kune vadzivisi vanogona kutadzisa basa rekuvaka akabva apa Nehemiah masoja ekuti azorwisa wavengi kana wouya (But the King knew that the Egyptians would come and attack the Israelites and he gave Nehemiah an army to protect the people while they rebuild the Walls),” said Hungwe.
“President Mnangagwa with the help of the army managed to dislodge the enemy which has been shutting us out all along. With the help of Gen Chiwenga, all the enemies retreated and we are going to rebuild the Walls of Jerusalem.
“Our President Mnangagwa said there will be gnashing of teeth in the end. Gen Chiwenga varimo muBhaibheri ndivo vaya vanopindira kana vanhu voramba nezvinhu zvevanhu (Gen Chiwenga is there in the Bible and he fights for the people),” said Hungwe.
Hungwe openly hinted that Zanu PF will not hesitate to use soldiers during the 2018 harmonised elections saying it was common that Kings in the Bible would always use soldiers for their convenience.
“In the Bible, the Kings ruled with the army on their side. Saka patinoenda ku2018 elections musasiya soja. (Zanu PF) Chairman, soja apa imi mberi. (When we campaign in 2018, do not leave the army. We will move side by side with the military),” said Hungwe.
The meeting became intense when the central committee member Rtd Brig-Gen Livingstone Chineka wept and trembled in anger over what he said was a distressing onslaught by the now defeated G40 cabal. He argued that forgiving members and accepting them back into party structures without through vetting would not be good for Zanu PF.
“We should address the problem not symptoms. We do not want to walk with people who will cause problems along the way.
“We need leaders we can bank on not those with double standards. These people who turned on us before, what guarantee do we have that they will not turn again. We need to be very careful on whom to trust now.
“We were called all sorts of names because of these people and we cannot leave this rot unattended. They should all come forward and confess their double standards and not to shelter them as if nothing happened,” said Rtd Brig-Gen Chineka before breaking into tears.
Provincial chairperson Ezra Chadzamira urged members to follow proper party channels and not just to expel members for having links with the G40. He said the obvious people who will face the chop at the upcoming congress are Walter Mzembi, Dr Paul Chimedza, Daniel Shumba and Jeppy Jaboon.top news
