MWENEZI – President of the National Council of Chiefs, Chief Fortune Charumbira last Saturday told people gathered at Rutenga growth point for the unveiling of Mwenezi East Zanu PF legislator Joosbi Omar’s five-year strategic plan that he will campaign for Omar in the 2018 elections.
Charumbira, who attended the event on behalf of Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda, showered Omar with praises and pledged his support come next year.
“Chero ndiri mambo ndichadzoka kuno kuMwenezi ndoita campaign for Omar musarudzo dzirikuuya…muzukuru wangu uyu (Though I am a chief, I will come back in Mwenezi to campaign for Omar …he is my nephew,” said Charumbira.
On his part, Omar who preached development, took a swipe at Zimbabwe Bio Energy (ZBE) game ranch owner, Billy Rautenbach for allegedly engaging in exploitative tactics of hiring workers and arbitrarily firing them after a few months before they can sign their contracts.
“Ndinorwadziwa kunzwa kuti kuna Billy asingadi kubhadhahara vashandi. Mushandi anoita two years no salary….what form of investment yaarikuita achiita zvakadero (I am pained to receive reports that Billy is not willing to pay his workers. His workers are going for as long as two years without any salary…what form of investment is that,” fumed Omar.
Also in attendance was the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr Lazarus Dokora who lamented what he called a concerted social media campaign to deride him.
He however said the implementation of the new curriculum was inevitable.
“Vamwe vanondituka pasocial media hanziii heee mazindebvu uya watanga…aaah ndebvu kubasa. The criticism is strengthening us because almost everyone is closely looking at developments that are happening in the education sector.
“Let’s embrace the system of Ubuntu in our education sector. Despite the criticism, the implementation of the new curriculum is unstoppable,” said Dr Dokora.politics

Maunganidze elected MISA national chair

…pledges to work for friendlier media environment ahead of 2018

Upenyu Chaota

HARARE – He fought a good fight, kept the faith, finished the race and most people in the media industry are happy with the election of TellZim News publisher and Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) media lecturer Golden Maunganidze to the position of new Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zimbabwe Chapter national chairperson.
Maunganidze surprised even the most cynical of those who gathered at Cresta Jameson Hotel in Harare for the elective congress after he landed the post uncontested following the eleventh hour withdrawal of his formidable rival Dumisani Muleya, The Zimbabwe Independent editor.
Delivering his victory speech, Maunganidze called for collective input to keep the MISA ship afloat.
“During my term, the country will hold elections so it is one of our mandates to help each other as we promote access to information during elections. We will work to protect each other since journalists are often victimised during elections. We will also work to protect each other when we express our views as media practitioners,” said Maunganidze.
He said he will give an ear to all the MISA members and will work in consultation with others to create a conducive media environment in the country.
“I plead with you to work with us to take MISA to the level that you want it to be so that by the next time we gather here or any other place, MISA will mirror exactly what you want it to be.
“We are going to accommodate your views and when we derail please don’t hesitate to take us to the side and remind us what we are supposed to be doing. Please remind us when we divert from our mandate,” said Maunganidze.
Maunganidze is deputised by Rutendo Mawere who garnered several votes more than her closest electoral rival. Pamenus Tuso, Maggie Muzamara and Ruth Butaumocho were elected into the committee.top news

ZEC to embark on 16-day BVR blitz

Collins Munetsi ZEC Acting Director Voter Registration

… Masvingo Urban Ward 7 now in BVR system

TellZim Reporter

DARWENDALE – The Zimbabwe Election Commission (ZEC) said it will embark on a Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) blitz for 16 continuous days including on weekends in every ward across the country amid reports that long winding queues are a common feature at the few available centres.
The campaign, which is expected to start on October 15, 2017, will see many people being registered as voters.
Addressing journalists at a media training workshop in Darwendale early this week, ZEC Acting Director Voter Registration, Collins Munetsi said there will soon be no need for people to stand in long queues at the few currently available registration centres once the electoral body embarks on the 16-day campaign.
“We have opened few registration centres across the country at the moment but there is no need for people to stand in long queues waiting to register because very soon, we will come to their door steps. We will embark on a 16-day blitz, including weekends, where our teams will be in every ward registering people to vote,” said Munetsi.
He said after the 16 days, the already existing registration centres, which are mainly at District Administrator (DA) offices countrywide, will continue to operate until the January 15, 2018 deadline.
Munetsi said people should not worry over the presence of police during the blitz as the officers will only be there to maintain order.
Meanwhile, the Masvingo Urban Ward 7 which was missing from the BVR system has since been included, a ZEC official confirmed.
“The Ward was omitted during compiling but the problem has since been rectified; prospective voters from Ward 7 can now go and register,” he said.
ZEC board vice chairperson Emmanuel Magade also gave assurance that everything they do will be transparent saying the media should act as watchdog on their operations.
“We urge you to sleep with one eye open because we have nothing to hide from you. Everything that we do is transparent; criticise us when we fail but also applaud us when we do well,” said Magade.top news

Masvingo fires back on Mugabe

… Lacoste reshuffles provincial executive, takes all
     powerful positions
. . . defies Mugabe’s call for unity
…Kasukuwere baffled

Upenyu Chaota

Masvingo – The battle between President Robert Mugabe and Zanu PF supporters in Masvingo province, mainly Team Lacoste faction which supports Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa to take over from the nonagenarian, is far from over as the province remained defiant and recently demoted members linked to Generation 40 (G40) faction, which supports the veteran leader, to inferior provincial executive positions over the weekend.
Barely a month after  Mugabe called Masvingo and Midlands to order and pleaded for peace and unity in the party, the Lacoste-dominated Masvingo province has defied him once again by demoting (reassigning to less influential positions) members of a rival faction during a Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) meeting held at Victoria Primary School recently.
Zanu PF national political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere, who is said to be one of the G40 leaders, rubbished the reshuffle saying that is not the party’s official position. Kasukuwere said members will continue to occupy their provincial executive positions and ignore the reshuffle.
“Whatever they did is not official. For something to become official it has to follow proper party channels.  I have not received anything official to that effect and that means everything is hoax. Members should continue occupying the positions and ignore the reshuffle claims,” said Kasukuwere.
The PEC meeting, which was chaired by party provincial chairperson Ezra Chadzamira, saw Amasa Nhenjana, a suspected G40 loyalist who was vice chairperson, being demoted to secretary for security while Ailes Baloyi was elevated in his stead. Baloyi is believed to be a Lacoste loyalist.
Vocal youth provincial commissar and Team Lacoste sympathiser, Brian Munyoro was promoted to provincial secretary for administration while Mutero Masanganise and Gutu North legislator Ticharwa Madondo were removed from their influential positions.
Nhenjana said he was shocked by the way Team Lacoste was running the show and reassigning members “for no apparent reason.”
“If anyone ever doubted that there is a faction in Masvingo think again. Lacoste has shown that they are working against the party’s principles. Vanhu vakauya mumusangano late vanonetsa because havazivi kuti musangano unofamba sei (these people who joined the party recently are problematic). They will get a rude awakening very soon.
“Munhu anofanira kutadza basa kuti anzi abviswe not zvatiri kuitirwa nana Chadzamira izvi (One should be dismissed on the basis of incompetence and not what Chadzamira and company are doing. I asked him why they reassigned me and he could not give an answer,” fumed Nhenjana.
He said when he confronted Chadzamira to seek clarification over the demotion, he was told that he was never recognised as vice chairperson.
“He said I was never vice chair. If that was the case how come I was appointed acting provincial chair before we had an election for the chair? These people are up to no good and they will soon come to a harsh reality that Zanu PF is not some personal tuckshop which they can manage as they please.
Efforts to get comment from Chadzamira were fruitless by the time of going to press as his mobile phone went unanswered.
Munyoro, however, justified the reshuffled and said everything was done according to the Zanu PF party constitution.
“Our executive does not subscribe to any faction but instead we subscribe to the rules and regulations of the party as enshrined in our Zanu PF party constitution. It is unfortunate that some of our colleagues don’t read the party’s constitution,” said Munyoro
Masvingo Urban Member of Parliament and politburo member Daniel Shumba, who is suspected to have G40 sympathies, said there was nothing constitutional about the reshuffle.
“Izvo zvavakaita is not constitutional. It is just a circus. It will be dealt with in due course. It is unprecedented and very divisive. Instead of uniting people they are pushing factional agendas.
“They should not hide behind the party constitution when in actual fact they have no clear understanding of the guiding principles,” said Shumba.politics, top news

C-Mine ex-workers call for government intervention over unpaid wages

MBERENGWA – Troubled C-Mine ex-employees in Mberengwa have called upon the government to intervene in the impasse between them and their former employer over unpaid dues.
The gold mine changed ownership 10 years ago and went under liquidation after the then owner Patrick Down relocated to Canada leaving more than 300 workers with unpaid packages.
The hopes for the workers to get any form of their outstanding remuneration were shattered when all of the company’s movable property was sold, leaving the former workers with nothing to get hold of as a form of payment for the services they rendered to their former employer.
“We are calling upon the government to come to our rescue. There is no other avenue we can use to get our packages now that the assets we were holding onto as collateral are being sold,” said a dejected ex-worker.
Over the years, a number of mines in the Great Dyke have been closed leaving many workers stranded and with nowhere to go. Some former workers were chucked out of mine houses that they have been staying before the collapse of the mining businesses.local

MWENEZI – It is double tragedy for Nyengeterai Gondo lost her husband to a-41-year-old woman who later teamed up with her son and severely assaulted Gondo, the Mwenezi Magistrates Court heard last week.
Appearing before magistrate Honest Musiiwa was Sinikiwe Mbuderi and her son, Hardley Mbuderi (25) who reside at Lundi business centre.
Both of them pleaded not guilty to the charges of assault though Sinikiwe admitted to having an affair with Gondo’s husband.
“Murume ndizvo ndinodanana naye uye akandivakira imba, seven rooms. Zvose ari kundiitira saka chiii chandaizokurovera iye murume achindipa zvose zvinondigutsa. Kuda hako vakarohwawo nezvikomba zvako waakuda kupomerawo ini mhosva,” Sinikiwe said.
On her part, Gondo told the court that the two severely assaulted her when she went to Lundi business centre to look for her husband.
“Hakasiko kekutanga kundirova. Unonditorera murume wangu futi. Musi uyu mose mai nemwana makanditema nematombo. Sinikiwe waitokuza mwana wako uchiti rova rovesa rife chaiko,” Gondo told the court.
The State’ case as argued by prosecutor Willard Chasi was that on August 3 this year, at around 2000 hrs, Gondo who reside in Helani village under Chief Chitanga, went to Lundi business centre to ask for some money from her husband Tyson Moyo who operates a welding shop there.
As she walked around the business centre, Gondo met the two accused person who began to scold her. They then allegedly took stones, logs and assaulted her all over her body.
Gondo later bolted and was taken to hospital for treatment and a police report was later made, leading to the arrest of the duo.
A medical report was produced as exhibit in court.
The trial was due to continue by the time of going to print.local

Gweru MDC-T youths acquitted of denouncing Makarau

GWERU – Gweru provincial magistrate Pathekile Msipa last week acquitted eight MDC-T youths accused of staging an illegal demonstration against the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) demanding a level political playing field ahead of the much anticipated 2018 poll.
The State had alleged that on July 22 2017, the MDC-T activists marched through the city centre chanting political slogans and denouncing ZEC chairperson, Justice Rita Makarau and the ruling Zanu PF party thereby disturbing public peace.
The youths who were being represented by Lizwe Jamela and Claudius Makwara, contested the grounds of their arrest arguing that police had been notified of the demonstration.
The eight had been out on US$100 bail each.
In dismissing the case, Msipa said there was no evidence to show that the accused had intended to promote violence through their actions adding that no complaints had been cited in the charge sheet.
MDC-T information and publicity officer Munyaradzi Mutandavari said the youth league and party at large welcome the judgment.
“We are happy they were released. It shows the courts have respect for the rule of law and the youth league and party are happy about it,” Mutandavari said.local

Prison Ministries founder pleads with churches to help ex-convicts

Bishop Pashapa

ZVISHAVANE – Churches should join hands and help former prisoners by providing resources that can help them to start a new life, Prison Ministry International (Zim) Trust (PMIT) founder Bishop Noah Pashapa has said.
He said this during the official launch and strategic partnership breakfast meeting of the organisation held last Saturday at Lions Club.
He said support must be given to former prisoners so as to reduce crime rates and recidivism (re-offending).
“Pastors should voluntarily offer help to these people not for publicity purposes but as a way of valuing humans rather than material things.
“Out movement is reaching out to many people who are imprisoned. In jail they meet social workers, educationists and chaplains who teach them the normative way of living as well as different life skills that can help them to start afresh upon release, especially those who would have repented while in prison.
“The name ‘Prisons and Correctional Services’ shows that prisons are not only meant to punish people but to provide certain services to offenders. They are meant to help them through rehabilitative and correctional services. For example, they are taught to sew, building, farming, carpentry among other skills.
“Our ministry has ordained more than 300 ex-mates and as a movement, we have come to plead with the society to employ these people in your organisations, companies and also to help by giving them resources to start a new life,” said Bishop Pashapa.
He also pointed out that the movement acts as a bridge between prisons and correctional services and the churches.
“When we hear that there are certain prisoners who are about to be released, we approach churches for help to make society welcome them. We also help them with resources to start a new life in the community.
Dr Pashapa also said that the movement’s national coordinator is an ex-prisoner who spent ten years at Chikurubi maximum prison.
The movement was established in 2009 in Zimbabwe but it came to Zvishavane in 2016.
The meeting ended with four churches being rewarded certificates which certified them as correctional care service providers. These are the AFM Amazing Grace, Family Fellowship Church, Holy Spirit Apostolic Church and the Pentecostal Assemblies of Zimbabwe.religion
