MASVINGO – Joshua Smith and Tapiwa Mawere, both former pupils at Kyle College and avid fine art lovers, have opened an art gallery at Serendipity.
The Creative Art Gallery, situated close to Pioneer Cottages along Masvingo General Hospital road, will showcase works of art that the two teenagers have worked on as well as others they are still working on.
“We went to South Africa and met somebody who saw great talent and vast potential in us. His observations inspired us to open this gallery.
“There are many talented artistes out there who do not have a chance to perfect their talents so we would like to open classes for them and we hope that will also help us to open more galleries,” said 19-year-old Mawere.
On the same note, Smith said he was optimistic the gallery will attract wide interest and lead to similar ventures elsewhere.
“There used to be a gallery here but it closed long ago so we decided to renovate this place and we are pleased that it now looks good. Art lovers are appreciating what we have done,” said the 18-year-old Smith.
People who attended the launch were surprised by the talent and resolve of the two boys and promised to support the gallery as a way of contributing to the development of fine art in the city.entertainment

Grace, a disgrace indeed!

Mapombi is saddened by the death of Gogo Shuvai Ben Chikoforo Mahofa the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs for Masvingo on Monday morning (Heroes Day). You know very well that Mapombi has been on record encouraging gogo Mahofa to resign so that she could have more time to rest especially after allegations that she had been poisoned at Zanu PF congress in Victoria Falls in December 2014.
Though no one took heed, Mapombi still appreciated that Mahofa was a real politician. I liked her political stamina. Chikoforo chaicho! May her soul rest in eternal peace! May we have a minute of silence in her honour please!
But the headache is now with Team Lacoste faction in Masvingo which is at catch 22 situation as its musketeer has passed on.  By the way, Mapombi had the opportunity to attend the Heroes Day celebrations at Masvingo provincial Heroes Acre though she was sitting a bit distant because her clothes were stinky, her rags rather.
But close enough to see what was happening from the VIP tent. I can tell you guys that Cde Hungwe had a pale face – he was in real grief and his speech summed it all; ‘Minister Shuvai Mahofa vakashaika mausiku …zvino tichaita seiko pama elections 2018? Shuvai Mahofa ndiye wanga ari mukuru wedu kuno kuMasvingo zvino handizivi kuti tichaita seiko nhai Chadzamira, Matuke navaMakwarimba.”
Those who care to follow the factional politics in Zanu PF can agree with me that these guys named by Hungwe are Team Lacoste sympathisers. Hate her or like her, Mahofa was Lacoste’s kingpin in the province; ndomunhu chete anga asina matyira kuudza even President Mugabe kuti kuMasvingo kune nzara so forget about cattle donations dzekuti dziende kuAU.
Mapombi can confidently tell you that Lacoste yava pamahwani iyezvino because kwasara mbwende dzega dzega iyezvino and no one has the guts to openly say NO to Mugabe. Worse Ngwena achitonzi ari kurwarawo kudai. Hameno regai tione.
Ko iyi yandiri kunzwa yaDr Amai ndeipi iyi? I heard she caused a commotion across the Limpopo awana hanzi vakomana vachidya nyika rutivi nevasikana vanozivikanwa nekusasimira hanzu dzavo zvakanaka. Kkkkkkk asi zvakaoma vakomana kugondera vanasikana vevaridzi uchisiya vako.
But I heard the South African police were in a no nonsense mood and they arrested her and she appeared before the court. Yes, court chaiyo and they don’t care about the diplomatic immunities vanongosunga zvakadaro. Kwasiyana nekuZimbabwe kwamunoita madiro kkkkkkkkkk zvaiwana ngwarati.
Asi iniwo zvangu saMapombi ndakanyarira mai venyika hangu – chokwadi kundoita zvinhu zvinonyadzisa kudaro kune imwe nyika here shuwa. Ko inga zvinonzi gudo guru peta muswe inga wani. Ko zvatichaparirwa ngozi takatarisa.
Mapombi heard Dr Amai once exhibited this kind of behavior; is it in Malaysia or Singapore hanzi vakazobhadhariswa maCamera avakaputsa. Don’t you think it is high time our mother vagadzirisawo hunhu especially when outside the country otherwise umwe mukuru angafa neBP.
By the way, I heard Mnangagwa was flown to SA amid reports that he was poisoned at a rally in Gwanda. There are jokes doing the rounds on social media hanzi murume mukuru wofira ice cream – is it true that he was poisoned through ice cream?
But Mapombi heard the Croc is now in a stable condition in SA where he was receiving treatment. But many others questioned the genuineness of this issue yekuti he was poisoned. I will not comment on that one.
It’s almost lunch time guys let me go ndindokanga zvangu maputi angu for lunch. But before I go I have a word or two for Zanu PF – muchapedzana mukaita zvekutamba. Nhambe tambe inoregwa ichanaka varume uku kwama kutambira konyudza uku, kune makuva mukati.
Anyway, how is Mphoko doing? These days he is a bit quiet ndofunga kutya kudyisiwa kkkkkkkk. Mboko imboko!mapombi

The late Shuvai Mahofa

TellZim Reporter

14 August 2017 – MASVINGO – Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Zanu PF politiburo member Shuvai Ben Mahofa has died.
This publication was informed that Mahofa was rushed to a local private hospital in Masvingo around 0300 hours today where she was pronounced dead around 0330 hours.
Mourners are gathered at her Rhodhene house.
Zanu PF provincial chairperson Ezra Chadzamira was still in the state of shock.
“It’s a huge blow. I cant say much at the moment …I am already at the funeral here in Rhodhene,” said Chamira.
Mahofa was on record saying that there were people who wanted to kill her through food poisoning in Zanu PF.
In May this year, Mahofa claimed that Zanu PF is full of witches saying she only survived by grace of God after she was bewitched in the run up to the 2014 party’s national congress that was held in Victoria Falls.
Addressing the Zanu PF Masvingo Provincial Coordinating Committee at the Showgrounds, Mahofa said the witches in Zanu PF tried, but in vain, to kill her.
“Muno (Zanu PF) makazara varoyi. Makandiroya muviri nemakumbo asi uruzvi hwangu hwuchikushanda. Munoziva zvamakandiita as nhasi ndiripano (There are a lot of witches here; you bewitched me but I thank God my brain remain functional; here I am and still going). I am even more powerful than ever,” said Mahofa.

2018: Mzembi tipped for Harare Central

Walter Mzembi
…as Masvingo South endorses him

Brighton Chiseva

MUSVOVI – Tourism and Hospitality minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Masvingo South, Walter Mzembi faces a tough decision to make ahead of 2018 as two constituencies want him to be their candidate in the general election, TellZim News has learnt.
If Mzembi succumbs to pressure, he will have to leave the constituency that he has been representing for over a decade to test his strength in Harare Central which is considered an opposition MDC-T stronghold.
The call comes after President Robert Mugabe’s clear endorsement of Mzembi at Masvingo Youth Interface Rally.
As if to say they still want their MP, the people of Masvingo South recently pleaded with their incumbent MP to be their candidate come 2018.
Speaking at a rally held at Cheshanga business centre in Musvovi, Chief Nyajena, on Sunday, constituency coordinator, Joshua Matakanure said the people of Masvingo South have already made up their mind and wanted Mzembi to be their candidate in 2018.
Matakanure pleaded with Mzembi to forget about leaving Masvingo South as the electorate there wanted him to be their ‘life MP’.
“Ndoda kuti muzvinzwire mega VaMzembi, pane umwe MP watichada here muno? (I want you to hear it for yourself Hon Mzembi, is there any other MP we will vote for here,” he asked as the crowd shouted back saying ‘No’.
In response, Mzembi said he was going to work for the welfare of the people of Masvingo South and dismissed as mere rumours that he was planning to move to Harare Central.
Mzembi spoke on the need for discipline in Zanu PF in order to achieve common goals.
He also gave a blow by blow account of how he was campaigning for the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) secretary general post.
However, in a side interview with TellZim News, Mzembi could neither deny nor agree that there were calls for him to go to Harare Central.
“I will follow the will of the people. All you need to know is that I am a national figure and people are not stupid; they know my capabilities,” said Mzembi.local, politics, topnews

ZYC, Zvishavane finally find common ground

ZYC patron Bigboy Murenga

ZVISHAVANE – The dispute between Zvishavane Youth Centre (ZYC) and the Zvishavane Town Council over ZYC’s current premises could soon be a thing of the past after council reportedly promised the organisation a permanent site to establish its own premises.
The organisation, since its inception in 2014, been housed at the council’s swimming premises and has vehemently resisted numerous eviction plans arguing that there was an oral agreement that council will first have to find a suitable alternative place for them.
ZYC patron Bigboy Murenga told TellZim News that Zvishavane Town Council director of housing Nhlanhla Ngwenya had visited them and applauded their work.
“The director of housing recently visited us and praised the work that we are doing in empowering the youth. He said he had not known that such developments were taking place in Zvishavane.
“He asked us to identify a place to establish a permanent site for the centre and promised that council will help to mobilise resources for the construction of a temporary structure for ZYC.
“We have so far found what we think is suitable land and we have informed them about it. They told us they will visit the place so we are still waiting for them,” said Murenga.
Efforts to get a comment from the council were unfruitful as Ngwenya’s mobile number was unreachable.local

Chivhu pupils fight over ‘VeMasvingo’ jibe

whatsapp jibe that caused stir

CHIVHU – Two Vees College students fought on schools closing day after one of them had mocked the other using one of the numerous ‘Masvingo jokes’ currently doing the rounds on social media.
The students (names withheld) had to be restrained by passers-by and other students with the offending student sustaining some injuries.
At the centre of the brawl was a meme showing a dishevelled and shirtless man sitting on the floor, his head buried in a bucket from where he is drinking something while his right hand is holding a large lump of sadza.
Beside the plate of sadza is another enamel plate with vegetables, while a large tin of salt is sitting close by.
Aswera achitaura zvisina basa achingonditi ndiri wekuMasvingo, ndiri wekuMasvingo achiratidza vanhu picture remunhu arikudya mazisadza achinwa mvura bucket apa achizviti hapana zvandomuita,” fumed the students.
Some people who witnessed the scuffle condemned the jokes as out of taste and capable of fomenting trouble.
“If we leave these things happening, next time people may kill each other. The promotion of negative stereotypes bordering on tribal hate speech should be condemned. Combine these things with the political dynamics in the country and you may have a perfect recipe for trouble,” said one passer-by.
The offensive social media jokes have sought to ridicule people from Masvingo as dull and primeval.local, topnews

Army promises violence in 2018

Major-General Nyikayaramba speaking at Mutonhori High School

Brighton Chiseva

ZAKA – Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Chief of Staff Administration, Major General Douglas Nyikayaramba promised to unleash political violence if President Robert Mugabe fails to win 2018 general elections saying the 93 year-old leader must rule until he dies.
Addressing people gathered at the official opening of a computer laboratory at Mutonhori High School in Zaka last week Friday, Mjr-Gen Nyikayaramba said they will defy anything that comes against the goal to make President Mugabe rule forever.
“If there are others who think they can change the government, they should forget. We have the keys to the guns, and we say the President (Mugabe) should rule until he willingly retires or dies, after that chero mukada kuchinjana kutonga vhiki vhiki or mwedzi mwedzi zvava kwamuri,” Mjr-Gen Nyikayaramba said.
“In Cuba, China and other countries, the revolutionary leaders ruled until they retired or died in office. This was done to thank them for liberating the people, the same should be done for Mugabe,” he added.
President Mugabe himself has, however, always stated that the liberation struggle was ‘selfless’ and that the people who took part in it were not self-serving.
Rubbishing the selfless motive of the liberation struggle, the feared general insisted that Mugabe should be allowed to rule till death as a sign of respecting him for the role he played during the liberation struggle.
Mjr-Gen Nyikayaramba also warned that the army had the keys to the national armoury, which he said will be used to ensure that Mugabe rules for as long as he wants.
He also supported the District Schools Inspector Beulah Shambambeva who had asked parents to have more children saying family planning was a strategy by Whites to reduce the Black population.
Chief Nyakunhuwa, born Courage Jerera, assured Mjr-Gen Nyikayaramba that his people were united in their support for Zanu PF.
“We heard about supporting Zanu PF, we had been supporting it, my headmen and village heads listens to me if I command them. I have asked them to bring chicken and goats which you shall eat here and they have done exactly that, so here we are united,” said Chief Nyakunhuwa.topnews, politics
