Tapiwa Mawere and James Smith

Brighton Chiseva

MASVINGO – Joshua Smith and Tapiwa Mawere, both former pupils at Kyle College and avid fine art lovers, have opened an art gallery at Serendipity.
The Creative Art Gallery, situated close to Pioneer Cottages along Masvingo General Hospital road, will showcase works of art that the two teenagers have worked on as well as others they are still working on.
“We went to South Africa and met somebody who saw great talent and vast potential in us. His observations inspired us to open this gallery.
“There are many talented artistes out there who do not have a chance to perfect their talents so we would like to open classes for them and we hope that will also help us to open more galleries,” said 19-year-old Mawere.
On the same note, Smith said he was optimistic the gallery will attract wide interest and lead to similar ventures elsewhere.
“There used to be a gallery here but it closed long ago so we decided to renovate this place and we are pleased that it now looks good. Art lovers are appreciating what we have done,” said the 18-year-old Smith.
People who attended the launch were surprised by the talent and resolve of the two boys and promised to support the gallery as a way of contributing to the development of fine art in the city.entertainment
