Masvingo – A Reformed Church University (RCU) driver, Pardon Muzondo, who in February this year escaped death by a whisker after a Toyota Hilux he was driving veered off the road and rammed into a tree has released a gospel album dedicated to his miraculous survival.
Muzondo was running some errands for RCU on graduation day when he had the fatal accident which almost claimed his life but was lucky enough to live and tell the story.
He said his survival from the accident was a true work of miracle and he feels indebted to the Lord hence the reason why he released an album as a testimony that God does exist and can work miracles.
“I was trying to avoid a head on collision with a pirating Toyota FunCargo. I still cannot believe that God protected me from that accident so I decided to praise him through music”, narrated Muzondo.
Muzondo who never dreamt of becoming a musician released an eight track album called Mwari Muchengeti.
“I got help from Nemanwa guitarist, Austine Magara, Eddy Ngomanyuni, Camera Mugodhi and my elder brother Tawanda Muzondo who is also my manager”, said Muzondo.
The album was recorded and produced by Ravern Records at Charles Austin Theatre in Masvingo.entertainment

Students call for banning of alcohol at colleges

MASVINGO – Students who attended a Christian response to substance abuse workshop at Masvingo Teachers’ College recently called upon authorities to ban alcohol and take stern measures to ensure that illegal drugs do not find their way onto campuses.
The workshop was organised by a group called Focus as a platform for students to interact and share ideas on how to tackle substance abuse at institutions of higher learning.
Participants blamed drug and alcohol abuse on peer pressure and outside influence.
“Many students take drugs because their friends do, so if colleges and universities are cleared of such harmful substances, most of students will be spared,” said one student.
Local lawyer, Chakabuda Foroma urged students to engage their authorities at school to explore the feasibility of their proposals at local level since alcohol consumption was legally permissible for adults.
“Find the cause of drug abuse and address that instead of facing the consequences because drug abuse is a criminal offence,” Foroma also advised.
Motivational speaker, Dr Fredrick Kasese said before succumbing to peer pressure, students must use the power of their minds to make meaningful decisions.
“There are about 400 chemicals in mbanje so when you smoke that, you are taking all of those chemicals into your body. Can you imagine the harm that you are causing to your body?” said Dr Kasese.
Focus national co-odinator Tivakudze Zhou said his organisation wished to go around the country holding similar workshops.
So far, workshops of that nature have been held in Mutare and Harare with one more scheduled to be held at Masvingo Polytechnic in September.education

GWERU – Love Trust Zimbabwe is implementing a project aimed at assisting poor rural school girls to remain in class during their periods by availing free sanitary wear to them.
Over the last school term, the Gweru community-based humanitarian organisation assisted 600 female pupils to get sanitary pads and plans are being made to expand the project next term.
The organisation has also distributed bicycles to a number of pupils at Chiwundura Secondary School who have to travel several kilometres to school every day and has also assisted others with stationary.
Love Trust Zimbabwe director Ian Mathole said the organisation was concerned with the general welfare of pupils in poor communities, and wanted to give them not only emergency aid but life skills too.
“We want to lessen the problems that pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds encounter daily in their desire to get an education. We are particularly worried that basic items like sanitary wear are not affordable for most rural girls and they are missing school because of that,” said Mathole.
He also revealed that the organisation had run a successful project called ‘Back to School’ which focused on following young school dropouts and giving them the necessary support so that they could go back to school.
“We are also forming active support groups to provide the backing that is needed by beneficiaries. We thank the Ministry of Education, Nac (National Aids Council) and other individuals for supporting us,” said Mathole.local

CHIVHU – A 32-year-old man from Dziva village under Chief Nyoka in Furtherstone was recently slapped with 15 years jail time for raping a 15-year-old speech-impaired girl.
Magistrate Fadzai Mtombeni found Knowledge Dziva guilty of rape after the State presented evidence that on April 14, 2017, the suspect visited the complainant’s homestead and shared traditional beer with the grandfather’s girl who is blind and deaf due to old age.
Dziva took advantage of the old man who was quickly getting drunk and dragged the girl to the main house where he raped her on a sofa.
However, a villager who had seen Dziva dragging the girl to the main house, alerted other villagers who then gathered around the house, forcing Dziva to come out of the house where he was apprehended.
After apprehending the rapist, the villagers however set him free but only for him to be arrested on May 13 by a Constable Mafaindi who had received a tip-off.
Reasons as to why the villagers did not take appropriate action after apprehending Dziva were not clear but State witnesses revealed that he was caught red handed raping the girl.

CHIVHU – Magistrate Fadzai Mtombeni last week sentenced an 18-year-old man from Mudzvova village under Chief Mashayamombe to eight years imprisonment for sodomising a 38-year-old married woman.
The State, aled by Nicholas Mabvongodze found out that on the night of July 4, 2017, the woman retired to bed with her three children but did not lock the door since her husband was not yet home.
Mudzvova then entered the bedroom, pretending to be her husband and whispering that he wanted to have sex.
The woman, despite not having noticed that the man was not her husband, refused but the intruder insisted.
He then took the children from the floor and put them on the bed so that he could use the floor with her. Mudzova then forced his manhood into the woman’s anus and abused her.
The following morning, the woman asked her husband why he had chosen anal sex, but was shocked when he told her that he was not around the whole night.
She then described to her husband the clothes that the intruder wore and he suspected Mudzvova whom he confronted and got a confession.local

Minor raped for turning down love proposal

CHIREDZI – A perverted Zaka man is in trouble for allegedly forcing himself on a 15-year-old girl who had spurned his repeated love proposals, TellZim News can reveal.
Rabson Makore of Marufu village, Chief Bota, appeared before the Chiredzi Regional Court charged with rape and was remanded in custody for further trial.
Makore pleaded not guilty and told magistrate Judith Zuyu he was in a love relationship with the girl and they had agreed to have sex on many occasions.
The minor, however, testified that the accused approached her when she was watering her garden at around midday on October 16, 2016 and demanded sex.
“He told me that he had proposed enough and now he wanted sex from me because I had rejected his proposal,” she said.
The court also heard that Makore then produced a machete with which he threatened to kill the girl after he had realised that she wanted to escape.
It is alleged that Makore then tore a black skin tight undergarment which the girl wore and raped her once before threatening to kill the girl if she reported the matter to anyone.
The matter came to light in March 2017 after the girl divulged the rape to her mother, and a police report was made, leading to the arrest of Makore.
