Mwenezi East by-election: NCA concedes early defeat

Welcome Masuku

08 April 2017, National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) candidate in the ongoing Mwenezi East by-election,  has already conceded defeat, several hours before the close of the polling stations.
Masuku told TellZim News his party stands no chance of winning the seat, moaning what he called a grossly uneven playing field which favours the ruling Zanu PF party.
“No question about it. Zanu PF will win the seat. Many observers have been fooled by the seemingly peaceful environment on the surface. There has been a lot of intimidation and vote-buying in the run-up to the election,” said Masuku.
He said his party, however, is glad that it had fought a ‘good’ fight and would be content with whatever number they get in the election because the odds are hedged against the opposition.topnews, politics

Jeppy Jaboon

…as Midlands rises against Dube

Itai Muzondo

07 April 2017, MASVINGO – The anti-G40 wave currently dominating Zanu PF politics has reached the province, with party members openly calling for provincial political commissar Jeppy Jaboon and Masvingo Urban legislator Daniel Shumba to be expelled.
At a meeting held at Chiefs Hall on Tuesday, district representatives allegedly aligned to Team Lacoste openly voiced their dislike for Shumba and Jaboon.
The meeting was chaired by provincial secretary for administration Ailes Baloyi flanked by Godhati Dunira and Zvapano Munganasa.
However, the planned street demos national political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere and his alleged lackeys did not materialise due to “orders from above.”
Allegations of corruption, sexual harassment and violation of the party’s constitution were levelled against Jaboon and Shumba.
“In Chiredzi MPs no longer represent their electorate due to instructions from Kasukuwere, Shumba and Jeppy. They want MPs to always extort money from Tongaat to fund their agenda of removing the President from power,” said one party member.
Jaboon was accused of working to destroy the party by unnecessarily suspending councillors in Bikita.
“He is also violating the party’s constitution. He should be fired along with his accomplices,” said provincial secretary for information Ronald Ndava.
Another youth accused Jaboon and his group of asking female cadres for sexual favours in exchange for positions.
“We now do not know if people are given position on merit or on the grounds of sexual favours. We have lost respect for them so we want them fired,” the youth charged.
Elsewhere, Midlands Woman’s League provincial secretary for administration Perseverance Zhou attacked Gweru business woman Smelly Dube for funding G40.
“Here in Gweru, Smelly Moyo is funding Kasukuwere’s activities to destroy Zanu PF. She must be stopped,” Zhou said.politics

Gweru is Lacoste territory, new PA warned

Outgoing Gweru PA Chitiyo

GWERU – Outgoing Midlands Provincial Administrator (PA) Cecelia Chitiyo last week covertly warned her successor Aboit Maronge that the territory belonged to Team Lacoste, advising him not to act in any way that was inconsistent with the Zanu PF faction.
The ominous warning was made at a farewell party organised for Chitiyo at Cecil John Rhodes Primary School.
At the party, Chitiyo made an analogy of Gweru as a dam with still waters sheltering dangerous reptiles that eat anything which plays around.
“Muno muMidlands mune politics dzemo. The province can be likened to a dam that has still water; water that is clean and no one dares to drink from it. I am referring to that water that looks still but has strong under currents.
“Munoziva dziva riya rine rakati mwii rekuti kana mombe haimwi ipapo zvisinei nekuti mvura yacho yakachena. Vaya vakanoziva nzvimbo dzakadaro vanoziva kuti ukatambirapo unodyiwa nezviripasi. That is how I can describe politics in Midlands province,” Chitiyo said.
Chitiyo served as Midlands PA since 2016 before being reassigned to Mashonaland West in 2016.
She formally bid farewell to the Provincial Development Committee (PDC) which she said was full of hardworking and goal-oriented people.
“I can’t express how glad I was to work with this province especially the PDC. It was in this group that I realised unity brings more results than selfishness. People in the committee were also able to pull me up most times I felt weakened and tired. I will miss you,” Chitiyo said.
In a solidarity speech, Midlands PDC chairperson Chisairirwa Chibururu said he hoped to work with the new PA and continue the developmental work they started by Chitiyo.
Midlands has for long been referred to be a ‘Lacoste’/ ‘Ngwena’ stronghold, a Zanu PF faction allegedly fighting for Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa to succeed President Robert Mugabe.
The province is said to be his major support base despite repeatedly losing the Kwekwe parliamentary seat to the opposition before Chirumhanzu – Zibagwe was created as his safe haven.politics

MASVINGO – Two alleged G40 youths were last weekend attacked upon arrival at a Zanu PF ward meeting at Rujeko Primary School by alleged Team Lacoste sympathisers who accused them of spying.
The two, Simbarashe Tavahla and Tinashe Manyika were quickly ferried to Masvingo General Hospital for medical attention.
Tavahla confirmed the incident and said the issue is now being handled by the police. He told TellZim News they were attacked for being frequently seen in the company of Masvingo Urban legislator Daniel Shumba.
“When we arrived for a party meeting in ward seven, Promise Mutangadura approached me for what I expected to be a greeting but I was shocked when he attacked me. Ward youth chairperson Charles Mabhiyati also joined him to attack me and Manyika.
“They accused us of being Shumba’s acolytes sent to spy on them. Our relationship with Shumba is only based on our dependence on him to help us establish our own businesses,” Tavahla said.
Shumba is alleged to be in the G40 faction which is said to be rabidly opposed to Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa succeeding President Robert Mugabe.politics

Bikita girl survives mermaid attack

…reappears after four days

Itai Muzondo in Bikita

06 April 2017, BIKITA – A 14-year-old girl from Sosera village who mysteriously disappeared at Rozva Dam in a suspected mermaid (njuzu) attack on Monday last week miraculously came back alive after intense prayers and intercessions by an indigenous apostolic church prophet from Buhera.
Winet Govheya from Chief Marozva’s area is said to have gone missing mysteriously on her way to school.
The girl’s mother Ringanirai Hwande told TellZim News in an interview that her daughter had vanished in the presence of school mates on their way to school.
“Winet went missing on Monday and I went to seek help from church elders who instructed me not to cry or raise alarm while promising to help pray for the child’s safe return.
“Her schoolmates are not sure how she vanished. They only said she did not cross the road with others who moved fast to dodge an approaching whirlwind (chamupupuri) and never thought of checking on her,” Hwande said.
Winet’s father Douglous Govheya said he was still to come to terms with what happened to her daughter.
“I am still to know how it all happened because those who were there do not have clear descriptions. When Winet herself came back, she could not talk and could barely sit.
“A clear explanation would clear my heart of what really happened to my daughter during the days she went missing. You never know, maybe she had been kidnapped because after prayers at home, we found her lying on the banks of Rozva Dam,” Govheya said.
Charles Kasirai, the prophet who challenged the mermaid through prayers, told TellZim News he was staying with Winet for two weeks to initiate her to become a prophet.
“Most people who survive mermaid attacks become traditional healers but Winet will be a prophet. Men of God are interceding on her behalf and praying for her angel to come and guide her in her prophetic work,” Kasirai said.local

MASVINGO – The parts of a renal unit that went missing from Masvingo Provincial Hospital over the last festive holidays has been found, TellZim News can reveal.
The equipment was ‘miraculously’ found in the stores department by an employee from the Human Resources department.
The equipment was sourced under the Zim – Chinese Project but its critical components; the float switch and the Ultra-Violet light were stripped off by thieves that are yet to be identified but are suspected to be a syndicate operating from within the hospital.
Though the Provincial Medical Director (PMD) Amadeus Shamu could not be reached for comment by the time of going to print, TellZim News learnt that the equipment was found by Mthulisi Masaire, who is helping the police with investigations.
“The issue you are asking me is correct but it is unfortunate that I do not have the capacity to comment on such cases,” said Masaire and referred all questions to Dr Shamu.
A close source also told TellZim News that everybody was puzzled by the manner in which the parts were found.
“Everyone is surprised how the equipment re-appeared in a stores room that was thoroughly searched when the equipment was reported missing,” the source said.health
