War vets give Mugabe final warning

ZNLWVA Secretary General Victor Matemadanda (left) briefs Mutsvangwa soon after arrival at a War Vets' meeting in Masvingo on Saturday

TellZim Reporter

MASVINGO – The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWA) has given President Robert Mugabe a ‘final warning’ saying the nonagenarian leader’s failure to respond to their pleas would see the freedom fighters dumping Zanu PF to support any political party of their choice in the next election.
Speaking at the emotionally-charged meeting at Panyanda Lodge last weekend, war veterans said they regretted supporting Zanu PF over the past years.
“We were used to beat anyone who did not like Zanu PF. We did all the dirty work for the party only to be dumped today because there are some G40 members in the party. Let us refuse to be used like condoms….the time to sober up and be frank to each other is now,” said a female war veteran.
Although they initially agreed that they would not mention names, as tempers heated, the war veterans chairman Christopher Mutsvangwa said he was extending an olive branch to President Mugabe whom he accused of favouritism.
“You know our patron President Mugabe is not fair. It is at this juncture that we appeal to him to be fair and come to us before we reach a point of no return. You all know that I was fired from Zanu PF without any disciplinary hearing…they did not want to hear my side.
“But look at how people like Jonathan Moyo and Kasukuwere are stealing from public institutions and yet the President continues to protect them …it’s no fair, we don’t want that kind of favouritism especially coming from someone who is our patron,” said Mutsvangwa.
Mutsvangwa said he was shocked to realise that Prof Jonathan Moyo was actually bragging that he was a ‘thief’.
“This country has gone to the dogs…we did not go to war to fight for this rubbish. How can Jonathan claim that he steals so that he can give the loot to the poor? No. He is not Robin Hood as he claims, the only people who sacrificed for Zimbabweans to be emancipated are war veterans not war deserters like Moyo who ran away from the liberation struggle,” added Mutsvangwa.
Mutsvangwa said the war veterans were no longer going to use the ‘pasi naTsvangirai’ slogan because the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) helped in the crafting of a national constitution that respects war veterans.
“We must not continue saying pasi na Tsvangirai. What are we going to tell them when they ask us why we continue saying down with them? For your own information, the MDC helped in the crafting of this beautiful constitution which respect us. Remember the Lancaster Constitution did not recognise war veterans,” added Mutsvangwa amid ululations from the crowd.
Turning to the recent Norton by-elections where Zanu PF lost to independent candidate Temba Mliswa, Mutsvangwa said war veterans were happy with the election outcome.
“The people have spoken in Norton. We are going to support any candidate who is liked by the people regardless of his/her political party affiliation,” said Mutsvangwa.
The war veterans’ spokesperson Douglas Mahiya led the session in amending the constitution.
The new amendments will see the position of the patron being replaced by that of the non-executive president.
“President Mugabe’s position of being our patron is no longer there. Our partners at international level will not accept us with Mugabe as our patron so we have removed that position,” said Mahiya. news

MDC-T Masvingo urban councillors summoned for hearing

Mayor Hubert Fidze

Upenyu Chaota

MASVINGO – MDC-T Masvingo urban councillors, including mayor Hubert Fidze, have been summoned to a hearing on November 19, 2016 by their party’s district disciplinary committee to answer charges of corruption and ineptitude.
The councillors have been under the spotlight over allegations that include joining Zanu PF’s corrupt stands gravy train as well as failing to keep Zanu PF interests in check at the council.
Chairperson of the disciplinary committee, David Charirwe confirmed the development and said that the councillors have some explaining to do.
“Yes, we have a hearing. Councillors will stand before my committee and explain the charges levelled against them.
“We act as the public protector and it is our job to make sure that the officers, in this case councillors, adhere to the party principles. When issues arise, we are bound to summon the person involved so that they can defend themselves,” said Charirwe.
He however said he could not pre-empt everything since the outcome of the hearing will determine the course of action to take.
“They stand accused of failing to represent MDC-T at the Civic Centre and have all been falling for Zanu PF’s tricks. The councillors should work with us and seek guidance if they are lost but that is not happening.
“We should work together so that when we rise, we rise together and when we fall, we fall together. We do not want a situation where our councillors fall and we remain standing,” said Charirwe.
“Bonface Mazarire and Manase Vunganai were victimised at the council and were fired but our councillors did nothing to defend them despite that they form the majority. These are some of the issues that need clarification,” he added.
One provincial executive member, however, complained that the district was being used to smear the councillors particularly Fidze whom they suspect to have ambitions for higher office.
“They feel threatened by Fidze who is said to be planning to contest the Masvingo Urban parliamentary seat in 2018 so his opponents are using their money to manipulate structures and fabricate charges against him.
“The other councillors have just been caught up in the crossfire but the person they really want is Fidze. It is pure dirty politics at play and it is going to cost the party,” said the member.
Fidze has however denied that he wants to contest the Masvingo Urban seat.
TellZim News also established that MDC-T president Morgan Tsvangirai last week summoned all his councillors and mayors to Harare for a closed doors meeting at which Masvingo district was warned to leave the councillors alone.
Tsvangirai reportedly tasked provincial chairperson, James Gumbi, to make sure that the province is put in order.
“The President gave a strong warning to Masvingo district to leave the councillors alone. The councillors have no case to answer and should not fear anything,” said a source.news

Shoko to stand in Bikita West by-election

Heya Shoko

TellZim Reporter

In a move that is likely going to send shock waves to Zanu PF, prominent politician and former Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) Member of Parliament (MP) for Bikita West constituency, Heya Shoko will stand as an independent candidate in the by-election set for January 21, 2017, TellZim News can reveal.
This publication is informed that Shoko gave in to pressure from villagers and his supporters who approached him to be their candidate

after Zanu PF had imposed the little known Beauty Chabaya to be their candidate.
The constituency fell vacant after the jailing of Dr Munyaradzi Kereke for rape.
Although Shoko could not be drawn in to giving full details about his position, he confirmed that he was ready to serve the people of Bikita.
“I am receiving calls from people all over the constituency who want me to represent them. The people of Bikita know that I am a good leader and they want me to be their MP. I can only tell you that I might not resist their call if they continue to call me.
“I did a lot of projects when I was the MP for the area and the people have sweet memories of the time when we worked together. If I decide to go to Bikita, I will be an independent candidate,” said Shoko.
Shoko who had joined Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) is among the disgruntled individuals who were already leaving the party citing a very thin line between People First and Zanu PF.
“I am a true democrat fighting for the emancipation of the ordinary person…the fighting spirit is within me and I will continue to fight for the people. The Bikita people know that I have not changed; I am the same down to earth Shoko who worked very hard to upgrade their living standards during the GNU era. I am not such a type of an MP who runs to Harare soon after election. I am a true man of the people,” added Shoko.
People from places such as Bikita Minerals, Mupamaonde, Bikita offices and Nyika said Shoko would be the most favourite candidate considering that Zanu PF has decided to impose Chabaya.
Popular musician Elias Musakwa was tipped to win the Zanu PF primaries but mysteriously lost to Chabaya leaving Zanu PF supporters disgruntled.
The ZimPF is likely going to field Kudakwashe Gopo although some insiders say the majority in the party were against the idea of fielding a candidate at the moment.
“Its Makova who is insisting that Gopo must contest but everyone in the party is against that idea,” said an insider.
Just last week, MDC-T pledged that they would support an independent candidate in Bikita West.
Former MP for Masvingo West constituency and MDC-T senior official for Masvingo province Tichaona Mharadze said his party was ready to go to Bikita to support an independent candidate.
“My party is not fielding a candidate but in the case that there is an independent candidate who shares the same vision with us, we will certainly support that candidate,” said Mharadze.news

Bikita RDC proposes US$3.7 million budget

Upenyu Chaota

BIKITA – Bikita Rural District Council (RDC) has completed wide consultations for its proposed US$3.7 million budget for the year 2017 which has been well-received by stakeholders.
Due to the current economic problems, the budget is less than 50 percent of the previous one which stood at US$8.2 million.
Last year, Bikita RDC managed to collect only US$1.6 million out of the budgeted US$8.2 million, a situation which forced the council to propose the lower but more realistic budget this year.
Bikita RDC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Chibi said they learnt a lesson from the 2016 budget that they have to budget realistically.
“We recorded huge short falls in the revenue we had expected to generate because most of our income generating projects failed to take off. Our revenue generating areas, particularly the estates, where we sell stands have failed to provide the much needed money and sales have dropped,” Chibi said.
“The government is not forthcoming with grants and that makes it unreasonable to draft a big budget that will not materialise. It is better to work on a smaller budget while prioritising the most basic services,” he said.
Chibi said council had adopted austerity measures; cutting on expenditure while giving priority to critical basic areas like health and infrastructure development.

…hands 32 motor bikes to councillors

 Upenyu Chaota

BIKITA – The Bikita Rural District Council (RDC) last week handed over 32 motor bikes to its councillors so as to ease their movement in wards for the sake of service delivery.
Bikita RDC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Chibi said the move is a result of planning that began in 2010.
“The wards are so big and it is difficult for councillors to move around. That is why we worked hard to get these motor bikes. It’s meant to improve service delivery,” said Chibi.
He said each motor bike is valued at US$1 389 and the council will pay 43 percent while the councillors will settle the remaining 57 percent.
“We want this to be an on-going initiative with those coming in 2018 being given a chance to own motorbikes too. We want councillors to come and debate issues that come from the people because they will have contacts with the grassroots,” said Chibi.
Bikita RDC chairperson, Clara Makura thanked the council on behalf of councillors saying the motor bikes must be put to good use so as to develop communities.
“These bikes will make our jobs easier and we hope the councillors will use them for the benefit of the people.
“I plead with councillors to exercise caution because these bikes will send them to the afterlife if they drive them recklessly. We want everyone to be safe so that we can finish the jobs we were given by the people,” said Makura.news

Gutu councillor Mutizwa in food aid scam

Tafadzwa Nyikadzino

GUTU – Villagers of ward 21 under Chief Munyaradzi have complained that their councillor, Jervas Mutizwa is using national identification cards belonging to vulnerable people to give food aid to people affiliated to Zanu PF, TellZim News has learnt.
A person who claimed to be a victim of the scam complained that Mutizwa fraudulently used his ID number to corruptly put his supporters on the list of social welfare food aid recipients.
“I am one of the people who discovered that my ID number was being used by the councillor to give food to members of his political party and those that go to his rallies.  I’m disabled so I am not able to attend their rallies but it seems I am being punished for that.
“I am the only one who got the courage to speak because others are fearful. I hope to see justice being done in the distribution of food aid,” said the victim.
Mutizwa, however, denied the allegations saying they were lies fabricated to harm his persona.
“What I can tell you is that there was an error which took place at one of our food aid distribution exercise when an ID belonging to a person called Lawrence Murawu was mistakenly used to give food to another person. That is probably what people are using against me,” Mutizwa said.news

MDC-T ready for Bikita West by-election

MDC-T national executive member Takanayi Mureyi

Upenyu Chaota

BIKITA – The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) said it is ready for the Bikita West by-elections saying it will do anything possible to ensure that Zanu PF lose the seat.
Though the Morgan Tsvangirai led party said it will not field a candidate to contest in the Bikita West by-election, MDC-T said it will support any candidate, be it independent or other opposition parties.
MDC-T national executive member Takanayi Mureyi told TellZim News in a wide ranging interview that the MDC-T is willing to work with anyone who wants to see Zimbabwe a better place.
“We are ready for the Bikita West by-election; we supported Temba Mliswa in Norton and we gave Zanu PF a bitter pill to swallow. As the MDC-T we are still pushing for electoral reforms and we will not participate in these elections until these demands are met.
“However, if there is a progressive candidate who believes they can stand up and challenge Zanu PF, we offer our full support. If they are independent then it means they are independent from MDC-T and supporting them does not mean we agree on everything but we will settle for the goal to remove Mugabe and his Zanu PF from power,” said Mureyi.
While the nation awaits for the announcement of the date of the by-election, no independent candidate has come forward for the seat but the Joice Mujuru-led Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) has shown interest and is likely to field Kudakwashe Gopo to face Zanu PF’s little known Beauty Chabaya.
“The struggle to bring change to Zimbabwe is not only about Tsvangirai and the MDC-T. The whole country should stand up and demand change. The MDC-T is ready to lead the people who make themselves available.
“We do not want to lead people who cry from hidden corners and are afraid to make the necessary sacrifices of getting into the streets to demand a better future from Zanu PF. People have a problem of going to churches of Magaya and Makandiwa to seek the gospel of prosperity and think they are cheating God.
“God is punishing us because we have failed to stand up against tyranny. People sacrificed their lives when they went to war to demand our Zimbabwe. Mugabe knows he is presiding over cowards that is why he does the things he does. The level of sacrifice among Zimbabweans is still very low and we are not ripe yet,” said Mureyi.
Mureyi said Zanu PF will not even contemplate using violence in the Bikita by-elections because the people are now aware.
“Zanu PF knows this time around that it is dealing with an awakened public. Gone are the days they used to beat up people and get away with it. Now we will fight back and for every one person they beat, we double the number in retaliation,” Mureyi said.
On bond notes, Mureyi said the problem is not about the introduction of the controversial surrogate currency but the conditions that led to the current crisis.
“It is not about the bond notes. It is not even the fault of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor John Mangudya because he is just doing what he thinks is best to ease the cash shortages.
“We used to have enough money in this country. Where did it all disappear to? Zanu PF stole all the money and that is why we have to fight Zanu PF and not waste energy on bond notes,” said Mureyi.news

….police officer guarding exam papers left for dead

Memory Rasa

MPANDAWANA – A Zimbabwe Republic Police officer who was guarding the Zimbabwe School Examinations (ZIMSEC) November exam question papers at Mpandawana High School sustained severe injuries after he was stoned, stabbed and beaten by six men who took his gun in the early hours of Sunday morning.
No comment could immediately be obtained from the police but Mpandawana High School head Kundai Kufa confirmed the incident.
“The lock on the administration block was broken but nothing is missing. I do not know what they really wanted because they did not take anything,” said Kufa.
Constable Norest Kuvarega (31) was reportedly attacked in a Form 4 classroom after one of the robbers sneaked behind him and stoned him on his head.
Kuvarega reportedly fell on the ground and was surrounded by six men who took his gun.
The robbers were reportedly carrying a knife, a sledge hammer and knobkerries.
One of the robbers reportedly stabbed him three times on the head and twice above his eyelids and once on the forehead.
They allegedly pulled him from the corridor to a classroom where they punched and kicked him several times before living him unconscious and went on to break the administration door.
The robbers, however, ran in different direction and fled in an unidentified vehicle which was parked behind teachers’ quarters when a security guard who heard the commotion appeared.
The missing gun was later found lying in the school grounds by the police officer’s colleagues.
Kuvarega was immediately taken to Gutu Rural Clinic where he was immediately taken to Gutu Mission Hospital where he is receiving treatment.news

Agroforestry solution to climate change

Innocent Batisa

MASVINGO – The Forestry commission of Zimbabwe (FCZ) says the country should accelerate agroforestry so as to fight the effects of climate change.
Agroforestry is a land use management system whereby trees or shrubs are grown around or among crops or pastureland.
FCZ spokesperson, Stephen Zingwena said the system should be adopted everywhere due to its many benefits.
“Through agroforestry, a farmer benefits from moisture conservation from tree canopies, exchange of nutrients from roots of nitrogen fixing plants and biomass,” said Zingwena.
He said the system reduces the amount of direct sunlight that hits crops and cuts evapotranspiration thereby increasing survival chances in intense heat.
“Not all trees are suitable for agroforestry but only nitrogen fixing ones like a wide variety of acacia and the pigeon pea,” said Zingwena.
He said FCZ was in the process of breeding drought resistant tree species that face extinction.
“Our researchers are working on propagating six indigenous tree species with a view of domesticating them while 16 more are on provenance trials. Three more are being bred for multiplication as they face extinction.
“Indigenous fruit trees that are targeted for domestication are mupfura, mutohwe, munyii, muzhanje, mutunduru and muhacha.
“There is also a programme of crossing eucalyptus trees to produce drought-tolerant and faster growing hybrids for flue-cured tobacco growers,” said Zingwena.news

Councillors tour ZNFPC

Tinomutenda Midzi

Masvingo urban councillors last week toured the Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council (ZNFPC) facilities to familiarise themselves with the services that are offered.
Councillors present included Godfrey Kurauone of ward 4, Lovemore Mufamba of ward 10, ward 3’s James Chiwara, Against Chiteme of ward 5, Tarsisio Mandava of ward 2 and Mayor Hubert Fidze who is also the ward 6 councillor.
ZNFPC provincial manager Peter Vhoko told the councillors the tour will help them promote professional family planning advice in their wards
“We are aware that you have a lot of questions to answer when you are in your wards. This will surely help you to answer health and family planning-related questions,” Vhoko said.
He encouraged citizens to visit ZNFPC for counselling, family planning advice and other related services saying his organisation has capable people who are eager to help.
“Our staff is highly trained. They know how to handle situations and people should come in numbers,” he said.
ZNFPC Masvingo also serves other provinces like Midlands, Matebeleland South.
Speaking during the event, Fidze said ZNFPC Masvingo was a source of pride as it was diligently serving other provinces as well.
“We were not aware that the health backbone of other three provinces is in our city. Council will do all that it can to publicise and promote the services of ZNFPC for the good of our community,” Fidze said.news

Chinamasa the fake Bond Notes culprit

0

But tinyareiwo mhani hamusvodi makaita seiko? You have rigged the election and now it’s almost confirmed that you are about to rig the economy through introducing Bond Paper or is it Bond Notes. You are not even ashamed that civil servants do not know their bedrooms anymore as they sleep in bank corridors in order to join queues early kuti vatore mari yavakashandira? Can you imagine teachers sleeping in the open like street kids or destitute?
Zanu PF and its government have stolen all the US dollars and now the country is in financial doldrums but they don’t care about it. Vana Kasukuwere kutovhaira hanzi im a millionaire, ana Prof Jonathan Moyo kutozvifananidza nana Robin Hood kkkkkkkk wotoshaya kuti varombo vaakabatsira ndevapi when he actually does the opposite of Robin Hood.
Now that there is nothing to rig anymore, they are at each other’s throat now. They have since started to rig each other, and this is just a tip of an iceberg, let us just wait and see. They will tear each other apart and please, please, please musabata siyai zvakadaro
But Chinamasasa or is it Chinamasa, has shown that he is indeed a political clown. Mapombi started even to doubt his academic achievements –  wakamboiitira kupiko law yake? I am afraid mukazvitsvaga zvakanyatsonaka hazvishamise kuwanana akangofanana nevaya boss vekuZimra, Charlton Chihuri whose only original certificate is a birth certificate and the rest are fake.  Kkkkkkk fake O’ Level, A’ Level, Honours Degree and Masters degree apa wotambira mari zhinji. Who knows maybe even ‘his children’ are fake kkkkkk.
Mapombi has since realised that Chinamasa is not so wise. How can a whole minister make a sensational claim that there are already fake Bond Notes circulating when the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) had not even advertised the specimen?
If it’s not Chinamasa himself who is printing the fake bond notes, who else then because people do not even know what the notes’ features will be like. Chinamasa is the culprit and other accomplices are RBZ Governor Dr John Mangundya and other senior government officials. They are the only people who are privy to information like how the bond notes’ features are like at the moment. And to make a sensational claim that there are fake notes already circulating is nothing but really shooting oneself in the foot. The innocent Zimbabweans have no faith in Bond Notes and Chinamasa’s claim even increased the fear. Ko kungo printer makanyarara zvinodiniko vana Chinamasa?
Anyway, Mapombi was impressed by Dr Amai; she managed to raise over $4million for the Zanu PF conference at the just ended fundraising dinner. Of course it was a calculated move by the Gushungo 40 (G40) faction to make her the Guest of Honour. Whether she is honourable or not that’s a topic for another day. By the way, is it still Gushungo 40 faction?  It seems like Mudhara is letting down Prof Jonso and Tyson – life is not that rosy for these Cdes these days and Mapombi is very sure Team Lacoste is in cloud nine. Mapombi however wants to give Team Lacoste a gentle warning; muchenjere kufarira n’anga neinondobata amai.
Sorry for diverting a bit; Mapombi was saying we should give Dr Amai a round of applause for a job well done. Or should we give her another doctorate (PhD)? Of course from UZ kkkkkkkk. Mapombi heard her previous thesis was a must read; she researched why teenage girls were getting pregnant more than teenage boys. Kkkkkkkkkkk wozodei? And in just three months she was done. Mapombi humbly suggests that we give her another doctorate; maybe in Popotology nekuti amai vanopopota zvavo kana vada. Haaa kutukirira chete ishasha!
Mapombi is very sure Dr Amai only fears Dzikamai Mavhaire of the ‘Marujata fame’ kana dzasvika nyaya dzekutukirirana. Let me rest my case otherwise I will be evicted from Dr Grace Mugabe Trading Centre where I’m staying ndikazoshaya zvangu some rotten bananas. But someone told me that I can make musombodhiya out of rotten bananas and Mapombi will certainly try it. Kana zvikangoita chete chokwadi muchandiguta paConference ipapo.
But have you realised that the ancient city is a bit live these days? People are running around in preparation for the congress. Even some of the projects that were abandoned when Masvingo last hosted the Zanu PF conference, over a decade ago, are being completed. Just two weeks ago, more projects were again completed because the CEO was in town for the GZU graduation ceremony. Wish if Mugabe could stay in Masvingo for just one month – all the roads will be like in Zvimba.
It’s almost lunch time guys allow me to go ndindokanga hangu maputi angu for lunch. But ndofunga paconference tichafa nayo nyama; I mean mabonzo avanenge vachirasa havo vanhu kwavo.  But Mapombi want to assure you that she will confront Mphoko at the conference because blazo uya anojairira vanhu. Mboko imboko!
