Gutu man caged for illegal electricity connection

Memory Rasa

GUTU – A Gutu man will rue the day he evaded the meter reading and connected electricity directly to his house after he was slapped with a 16 months jail-term recently.
Tiki Muranda (30) from Chatsworth was convicted and sentenced for contravening Section 60 A (1) (a) of the Electricity Act Chapter 13:19 (Abstract or divert any electric current or causing any electric current to be abstracted or diverted.)
The court heard that Muranda unlawfully connected electricity at 16 Makaure Location, Chatsworth, between May 18, 2016 and October 04, 2016, when a Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Auithourity (ZESA) loss control officer, Joseph Nekati discovered the connection whilst carrying spot checks leading to his arrest.
Nekati asked Muranda’s wife, Nomatter Mabhande to check the meter in the house. When he entered the house, the bulb was lit which was an indication that there was electricity in the house. He further checked the customer information unity (C.I.U) and it showed 0000 meaning there were no units purchased.
A printout was obtained which indicated that the accused had last purchased 28,3 units on May 18 for $5, the total value prejudiced is US$636
Muranda pleaded guilty before Gutu Resident Magistrate Edwin Marecha and begged for mercy saying that he had lost his job and was finding it difficult to find any money to pay electricity bill.
“I am sorry your worship, if you may forgive me and give me time to find a job and pay the bill. I am not employed and I just heard people discussing how a cable can be used to evade the meter recording electricity consumption. I did it out of desperation and it worked. I have 4 children and a wife, I am also taking care of my sick mother,” pleaded Muranda.
Marecha sentenced Muranda to 16 months of which four months were suspended on condition that he pays $300 fine. The other six months were suspended on condition that he pays restitution totaling $636 before November 2016, while the remaining six months were again suspended on condition that Muranda does not commit a similar offense for the next one year.  Millicent Azangwe prosecuted.news

Cattle farmer Mukumba loses herd as Vet shoots 20 cattle

MASVINGO – Cattle farmer Onismo Mukumba lost 20 cattle after the Veterinary Services shot dead the livestock at his farm following an outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease recently.
The move has since been condemned by Masvingo Beef Producers’ Association (MPBA) which said the vet department was not supposed to kill all the cattle since some had not been affected by the disease.
MPBA chairperson Robert Makado said the Vet department showed gross incompetence because they should have put various check points along the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway so that they could stop movement of cattle from the Foot and Mouth infested district of Mwenezi.
“While we are aware that there are shenanigans who move cattle illegally from quarantined zones, we have to be rational in our approach. Mukumba brought the cattle at his farm from Mwenezi in July and there is an outbreak three months later. Now the veterinary services officers jump from their comfort zones and killed the cattle and one would wonder where were they all along?” said Makado.
“The cattle should have been treated while at the farm or returned to Mwenezi rather than inflicting such a huge loss on a farmer,” he added.
“If they do not do that, they will end up shooting all the cattle in the province and make farmers poor,” said Makado.
When contacted for comment, Mukumba however maintains that he followed all the relevant procedures to clear the cattle through the Vet department before he transported the herd to his farm in Masvingo district.
“Everything was above board; the cattle were cleared by Vet before I transported them to my farm. I  even secured a High Court order to stop them from shooting my cattle but when I arrived at the farm they had already shot 20,” said Mukumba.
He later refused to comment further on the issue saying he was no longer interested to talk to the media.
Masvingo Veterinary Provincial Officer Ernest Dzimwasha was not reachable for comment by the time of going to print.news

“Not only should we conserve our natural resources for future generations but we should also ensure that the environment is clean.
“Harare used to be called the Sunshine City but look at what is happening today. You should take what you learn in the classroom into the community and educate others on the importance of keeping our environment clean,” Father Nyatsanza said.
School headmaster, Severino Shiri, urged students who did not receive prizes to emulate their fellow students and make sure that they could be prize recipients in future.
“You have the ability to perform better and win the accolades in future. Do not despair but make sure that you strive to do better,” he said.
Prizes were awarded to the best two students per class per each subject that is offered in the school’s curriculum. The overall best student per class received an additional prize.

Pills consumption: Apostolic sect hubby refuses to burry wife

. . . as razor blade operation bid kills Gutu woman

Memory Rasa

GUTU – A Marange Apostolic sect man from Gutu, who early this year mutilated her wife’s private parts in a birth operation bid with a razor blade, stunned villagers when he refused to bury his wife who passed on last week from the effects of the operation, claiming that she had consumed pills during the time she was admitted at Gutu hospital.
The Marange Apostolic sect’s church doctrine does not allow its members to seek medication at clinics and hospitals when they are ill.
TellZim News broke the story early this year when Chandinofira Mutereri (65) mutilated his wife, Nyevero Dumbu (34) in a bid to widen the birth canal after she gave birth at home.
Nyevero died as a result of the effects of the razor blade operation and was buried at her parents’ home after Mutereri refused to bury her claiming that she consumed pills which was against their church doctrine.
Nyevero was hospitalized for 14 days at Gutu Mission Hospital after the operation and was discharged after showing signs of recovering. It was when she went back home with her husband that she got worse after her husband allegedly denied her to take her pills saying it was against his church doctrines.
Nyevero was taken back to hospital in April by her family after they found her worse. On June 06, 2016, her husband however whisked her away from the hospital and went home.
“I am not seeing any reason of my wife being here. The nurses are forcing me to encourage her taking her medication knowing very well that it is against my church doctrine. I will never touch those pills. I also told her parents that medication and pills are not going to help her. All she need is church prayers and muteuro (anointed water). What is the point of staying here if am not going to touch those pills?”Chandinofira told Tellzim News in an interview after he had taken his wife from the hospital.
Nyevero’s father, Phillip Dumbu however, was angry with Mutereri and said he should pay dearly for the death of his daughter.
“What pains me most is that the man who is responsible for my daughter’s death is busy preparing another woman. Mutereri refused to bury his wife saying she took pills when she was admitted in hospital, which is against their church doctrine. My daughter was his third wife and the other two denied because of his razor blade operations,” said Dumbu.
Innocent Dumbu, the deceased’s brother said Mutereri even refused to hand over Nyevero’s Identity cards so that they can apply for a death certificate which they intend to use to acquire birth certificates for the wto children she leaves behind.
When TellZIm news crew visited Mutereri’s homestead, he started insulting them before he ordered them to leave his place.news

Masvingo Rotary Club donates wheelchair to Wayne Mpofu

Masvingo – Masvingo Rotary Club donated wheelchair and walker to the five year-old Wayne Mpofu on Monday evening.
One is even compelled to do more for the unfortunate Wayne, or would have been forced to do the same after hearing the little boy’s story that finally got him physical impairment.
“Wayne was a healthy little boy at the time of his birth. He just became unfortunate in 2011 when he was three months old when he suffered from mabayo (pneumonia). We took him to the hospital for treatment but was only given medication to ease the ailment.  The situation however worsened and we took him to specialists doctors in Harare but all was in vain,” said mother Euligate Rutende.
She said one of the Rotarians met her son one day and promised to discuss his condition with fellow Rotarians leading to the donation this week. Rutende is a hair dresser by profession.
Rotary International is an international service organization whose stated human rights purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and to advance goodwill and peace around the world.
It is a secular organization open to all people regardless of race, color, creed, religion, gender or political preference. There are more than 34 000 member clubs worldwide and more than 1.2 million individuals called Rotarians have joined these clubs worldwide.

Mugabe rigging antics exposed

0

Itai Muzondo

Masvingo – President Robert Mugabe is a dictator who has been at the helm of this country for 36 years and his dictatorial tendencies can be put to an end, not through negotiations, but only by confrontation, civic organisations and opposition political parties said during a meeting facilitated by Election Resource Centre at a local hotel last week.
Civic groups and opposition political parties unanimously agreed that Mugabe and his Zanu PF have been rigging elections in the past elections through brutal force, use of state apparatus like the army, police and the dreaded Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) as well as appointing these former officers into powerful Zimbabwe Election Commission (ZEC) positions across the country,
Speaking during the meeting, Masvingo Residents Trust leader Prosper Tiringindi said nothing fruitful will come out of negotiations but Mugabe can give in only if he is confronted.
“If we really want electoral reforms, why would you opt for negotiations with a dictator? If you enter into a negotiation, it will be a mere talk show. Even when they (Zanu PF) dealt with Smith, they had to confront him so who are we today to change tactics when approaching a dictator? We must be bold enough to face whatever it takes to force electoral reforms,” said Tiringindi.
Civic groups also said ZEC needs an overhaul before other electoral reforms are implemented if before the 2018 general elections or else Zanu PF will continue to rig elections.
“Election rigging will never be dealt with if ZEC officers are not replaced. People filling those posts have been in the rigging game for quite long and many of them are former members of the army, police and CIO. Mugabe has been using these state apparatus to rig elections and we are saying this should come to an end. We want election reforms before 2018 elections as well as ZEC overhaul,” said one participant.
Zimbabwe People First representative Jefferyson Chitando also brought another dimension and proposed that government should abolish ‘special vote’ and replace it with postal vote.
“Special votes is one major technique used by Zanu PF to rig elections. Speaking from scenarios we witnessed in 2013, numbers from the register never tallied with ballot papers that were casted. There are a lot of inconsistences when it comes to special votes,” said Chitando.
Another Zim PF member Frank Badza added; “When the security sector goes to cast votes, they monitor themselves. Why can’t they be monitored normally just like any ordinary voter? Those guys in security camps are even deprived their right to secret ballot as they vote on directives. This even include their families. It should also be noted that they are prone to vote twice as no security ink is put on them to show they have voted. This whole system is rot and we want electoral reforms before 2018 elections.”
MDC – T representatives present also concurred that postal votes are easier to work with when it comes to accountability than special votes.
“People should know that the major rigging technique used by Zanu PF in 2013 was the special vote. It should be abolished. Special vote ballot boxes were transported from camps and only police and ZEC were monitoring them. Who then knows if the boxes were not tempered with along the way? Monitors are also not involved in transporting the votes to their final destination in Harare, who again knows what happens to them along the way,” questioned the MDC – T district chairperson Murangamwa Chanyau.news

Father fondles biological daughter, blames evil spirits

Memory Rasa

GUTU In an act of immorality, an uncultured Gutu father last week went into her biological daughter’s bedroom and fondled her private parts with intention to have sex with her, though the plan hit a brick wall after the 13 year-old juvenile woke up and screamed for help.
The 42 year old man (name withheld) from Chatsworth appeared before Gutu Magistrate Edwin Marecha being charged with indecent assault as defined in Section 67 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law and Codification Reform Act Chapter 9; 23.
It is the State’s case that on September 21, 2016, the father entered the hut where his daughter was sleeping and started fondling her private parts. The daughter woke up and started screaming for help until the father notified her that it was him.
The daughter, who is doing Grade Seven at Zvivigwi Primary School in Chatsworth, the approached her classmate and asked if she can stay at her family place for a while. The friend however, insisted to know the reason and that was when the victim narrated her ordeal before they agreed to tell their teacher a Mrs Mugabe who later reported the matter to police leading to the father’s arrest.
The father pleaded guilty to indecent assault charges when he appeared before Gutu magistrate Marecha.
“I plead your worship; forgive me. Since the death of my wife years ago I never had a girlfriend and I have been taking good care of my daughter. I really don’t know what got into my mind that night – I think it’s the evil spirits. I love my daughter and I have been taking good care of her since the day her mother died,” said father.
Marecha sentenced him to two years imprisonment saying the father was a disgrace and a disappointment to the society.  Agatha Gabriel prosecuted.news
