CARE cash programme reintroduced

GUTU – Villagers of Gutu district are  heaving a sigh of relief after Care International’s electronic cash transfers, that had temporarily been suspended earlier this year, were reintroduced to cushion impoverished villagers from extreme hunger.
The payouts were first introduced by Care International in 2015 to help feed thousands of people facing food shortages after a severe drought which affected most parts of the district during the previous farming season.
Most of the areas in Gutu district received very little or no rainfall resulting in most crops failing due to moisture stress.
The cash programme was unfortunately suspended earlier this year with many councillors in the district saying the beneficiaries of the programme would once again be left with no food at all.
The programme was introduced to replace the expensive system whereby the non-governmental aid organisation would ferry maize grain to the communal areas.
Under the new system, beneficiaries receive a small amount of money in their EcoCash wallet which they can easily withdraw and procure maize grain for their families.
Elated villagers who have already received their money for the month of July told TellZim News that the reintroduction of the cash programme came as a relief as most of them did not have any other means of putting food on the table.
“This is indeed good news since most of us could hardly afford one meal per day. The money that we receive from Care International will go a long way in helping us to put food on the table. We wish to thank the organisation for timely giving us this assistance,” said William Hamadziripi who resides in Ward 19.
His sentiments were echoed by other villagers who said they were very grateful to the humanitarian aid organisation for its work in poor and marginalised communities.news

MASVINGO – Masvingo School of Nursing and Midwifery last week Friday certified 235 students who undertook a three year diploma course in nursing.
Certificates were given to the students who studied at this nursing institution from the year 2010 to 2015.
Awards were given to outstanding students with Tafadzwa Chipadza taking home the highest marks award for the 2010 Group C students.
Lazarus Musiyazviriyo scooped the 2015 Group A highest marks award while Succeed Tagwirei put Masvingo on the map after winning the prize from both the Masvingo school and at national level for the 2013 Group A.
Mr Kudakwashe Machako who represented the Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs, Shuvai Mahofa, encouraged the graduates to work hard despite economic hardships.
“Don’t wait for employment; implement what you learnt for the benefit of the community. You worked hard to get this and the economy is even harder but make sure your communities benefit from you. You must remember all who helped you to climb this larder; your parents and everyone else,” he concluded.
The guest of honour, Dr Kudzai Masinire who attended the graduation on behalf of Masvingo Provincial Medical Director (PMD), Amadeus Shamu, also pleaded with the nurses to strive for success in their endeavors.
“You are the light of the nation and you have death and life in your hands. Go ye therefore and serve our communities,” he said.
The graduation ceremony was attended by many reputable figures including magistrate Langton Ndokera from Masvingo Provincial Court and City of Masvingo mayor, Hubert Fidze.news

MASVINGO – The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) Provincial Youth Chairperson, Philip Chingini lost property valued an estimated US$9 000 last week after his grass-thatched house burnt to ashes in a suspected arson attack by perceived Zanu PF slobs.
The incident happened in from Zimano village under Chief Nerupiri in Gutu.
Chingini said the attack happened around 11.30 pm with his 13-year-old daughter being the only one at home after his mother, the girl’s grandmother with whom she stays with, had paid him a visit at his work place in Chiredzi.
“My daughter was alone and was asleep when she heard footsteps approaching the kitchen door before somebody went to my bedroom and knocked at the door.
“They visited again my fowl run where they stole 16 chicken and four goats. My daughter was shivering in her room and she was afraid of making any sound.
“I am sure this was done by the Zanu PF youths after I successfully organised an MDC-T demonstration in Masvingo early this month which was attended by the party president, Morgan Tsvangirai,” he said.
MDC-T Provincial Treasurer, Takanai Mureyi, said what happened is both tragic and regrettable.
“All villagers are affected by hunger, deprivation and abuse yet you find some of them allowing themselves to be used to harm others. Violence has no place in our society. The easiest thing is to be both barbaric and indulge in violence but that is wrong,” said Mureyi.news

Chivi – The Zanu PF party, which is currently in panic mode after many of its followers left to join opposition parties like the Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) and other civic organisations calling for change, is now considering recruiting school children.
Speaking during belated Zanu PF victory celebrations in Chivi Central, Zanu PF Provincial Chairperson, Amasi Nenjana urged party leaders to look everywhere for support in order to revive waning party fortunes.
“Here in Ward 17 and Chivi at large, we know families that have a revolutionary background so we have to visit such families and recruit their children into the party so that we sustain our legacy. Let’s get into schools and look for those who are mature and recruit them as well. They might not fit in the structures but they have a place in the main wing.
“During last week’s primaries in Bikita, some women failed to vote, a situation which is very bad for the party. They failed simply because they had not been recruited so I urge you to approach new faces you see in your area and recruit them. Mukanzwa kuti kwanhingi kwaita mwenga, svikai pamba ipapo mupinze mwenga iwowo kumusangano (If you here that there is a bride in your area, quickly visit that home and recruit that bride into the party so that we maintain a good following),” he said.
Zanu PF has a reputation of using unruly recruitment tactics in rural areas with those unwilling to join the party being denied food relief handouts and are often subjected to political violence.
The party is also known for politicising public institutions like the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) Registrar General’s offices, District Administrator (DA)’s offices and Social Welfare offices.
“You should also know that only Zanu PF representatives have access to food. If you vote in an opposition leader, the GMB will simply tell them that they are going for lunch and he will not be helped. Opposition leaders will always return empty handed because, unlike Zanu PF, they do not have the means,” Nenjana said.
Chivi Central MP Ephraim Gwanongodza said the celebrations were not for campaign purposes but to thank the community for supporting Zanu PF.
“In Shona they say kandiro kanopfumba kunobva kamwe (something for something) so after you filled the Zanu PF plate with votes, we had not yet filled your plates back and thus the reason why we are holding these celebrations today.
I am simply thanking you on behalf of the President and the party for voting in a Zanu PF councilor, MP and President in 2013.
“We thank you and we urge you to do the same come 2018. Delays in holding these celebrations have been caused by my busy schedule but I will always stick to my word as I have always done,” Gwanongodza said.news

CHIREDZI – Chiredzi Christian College students were last week Friday caught pants down in the college’s chemistry laboratory after they had gone for their holiday lessons.
The two love birds (names supplied) were caught by an alert security officer who was on duty around 07:00am.
 “Yes it’s true I caught them pants down and I called a staff member at the college to witness the misbehavior. I heard some movements in the laboratory and I tried to open the door since the doors are usually locked during the holidays,” said the officer who preferred anonymity.
“That is when I realised something bad was happening in there,” said the officer.
Another employee at the college said the two delinquent students had their own keys to the laboratory.
“The boy had brought duplicate keys from home which the two then used to gain entry. The girl hid in another room before the door could be opened. We saw a T-shirt a pant, a used condom, a laid down cloth and the boy’s trousers on the floor. We then searched in the mattress room and found her hiding,” said the employee.
It is suspected the two had often been using the laboratory as their rendezvous as they had been seen there on several occasions while others were studying.
The students now face expulsion from the college when the new school term begins in September.
“You must conduct the school head for any information. I am not the one who is responsible for commenting on any school information,” said the college’s deputy head who was identified only as Mr Muziro. The college head, Mr Chikwati, could not be reached for comment.news

Mpandawana – Two Gutu men were recently dragged to the court charged with walking into an area which is said to belong to the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) 42 Infantry Battalion which is based in Mpandawana.
According to State papers Louis Muzira (48) and Edward Jacob (52) entered the 42 Battalion military cantonment area knowing that there was a real risk or possibility that such entry is forbidden.
Muzira, from Fambi village and Jacob, from Manzanga village, Chief Gutu, were arrested by Corporals Skwilla Misheck and Chiunza who were on routine patrol in the prohibited area before a report was made to the police at Gutu.
The two, who said they were on their way to Nerupiri, said they left Gutu Garage along the tarred road and turned into a footpath without knowing that they were entering a prohibited area.
They asked the court to be lenient with them since they had entered the military cantonment out of ignorance.
Corporal Skwilla told the court that after arresting the pair they interrogated them and they admitted seeing the prohibition sign but did not take it seriously since the area is not fenced.
He said after receiving their admission they handed them over to the military police at 42 Infantry Battalion who in turn handed them over to the police.
Gutu Resident Magistrate, Edwin Marecha, remanded the pair to September 8, 2016 for continuation of trial.

Command agriculture programme gets overwhelming response in Masvingo

MASVINGO – Farmers in Masvingo are jostling to have their names registered under the government’s ambitious command agriculture scheme with renewed optimism that food security will improve in the province.
Masvingo province, like most parts of the country, is suffering from the effects of the El Nino-induced drought which has left over 700 000 people in need of food aid.
At least 2 000 farmers are expected to benefit from the new scheme which is aimed at ensuring food self-sufficiency countrywide.
The new scheme will target farmers near water bodies who can put a minimum of 200 hectares under maize production per individual.
Agricultural Extension Services (Agritex) provincial officer, Paul Poshai said there was overwhelming response from farmers and Masvingo province has the potential to ensure its own food security.
“I am inundated with calls from farmers who are willing to be part of this initiative meant to address food shortage in the country. There is an overwhelming response to the command agriculture programme in the province. I have already received over 200 calls from local farmers both A2 and A1,” said Poshai.
Poshai said plans are afoot to lobby government for the inclusion of A1 farmers.
“The command agriculture scheme is currently targeting only A2 farmers with a minimum of 10 hectares of land. We have, however, realised that there are many A1 farmers with 5 hectares also willing to be in the programme and plans are currently underway to have them included in the programme,” he said.
Farmers in the programme will be expected to produce at least 1000 tonnes of maize per season.
The participating farmers will also get loan advances in form of irrigation equipment, inputs and chemicals, electricity and water charges when they commit five tonnes per hectare towards repayment of advanced loans.
To create food-security, government has also launched the National Livestock Strategy (NLS) which intends to renew beef exports to the Middle East, the European Unions (EU) and other international markets.news

GUTU – A member of the African Apostolic Church (Mwazha) last week told the Gutu Magistrate’s Court that he burnt a Zanu PF member’s regalia after Paul Mwazha appeared to him in a dream and instructed him to do so.
Happison Manjovha (37), of Manjovha village under Chief Nyamande, is facing charges of malicious damage to property for burning Shangwa Masocha's regalia and other property.
He pleaded guilty to burning the regalia saying he had a vision of Prophet Mwazha asking him to go and burn the regalia.
He however denied burning Masocha’s other property.
Magistrate Edwin Marecha postponed the case to September 3, 2016 and ordered that the accused undergo mental tests to determine his sanity.
"I burnt only his regalia because he opposed my dream. In the dream, Apostle Paul Mwazha appeared to me and instructed me to burn the regalia…," Manjovha said.
It is the State’s case that on August 19, 2016 Manjovha approached Masocha at his homestead and told him about the dream, saying he therefore needed to burn the regalia.
The State alleges he went on to burn property which was worthy US$711.

MASVINGO – The current wave of anti- President Robert Mugabe protests rocking the country can only be stopped if the police arrest the nonagenarian and his ministers over the missing US $15 billion diamond revenue as well as a spate of corrupt activities which have left the economy in shambles, the Morgan Tsvangirai led Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) has demanded.
MDC-T youth assembly boss Happymore “Cde Bvondo” Chidziva, who has been labelled a terrorist by Zanu PF, served Mugabe with a petition to come out of his shell and address the plight of Zimbabweans with immediate effect or they will lead an upheaval which will make the country ungovernable. Mugabe last week flew to Kenya leaving the country in flames as 18 oppositional parties demonstrated last Friday demanding electoral reforms.
“If the police want the protests to end, they should arrest Mugabe and his corrupt ministers. They should arrest those who stole our $15 billion diamond revenue. We guarantee if they do that, the protests will cease immediately. We take exception to the narrative being peddled by Zanu PF that we are a violent lot as we have always notified the police of our demonstrations,” said Chidziva.
Last week, Chidziva and his youth took to the streets protesting against the introduction of bond notes but the protests turned ugly after the police unleashed brute force against the protesters leading to retaliatory attacks which caused war zone scenes on the streets of Harare.
“Attempts by the state media and police to label me a terrorist will not deter me from providing leadership to the youth of our party who gave me the legitimate mandate as well as millions of other young people who look up to us to proffer an alternative.
“It should be noted that as a party and an assembly in particular, we seek the removal of Robert Mugabe and his corrupt system. Every day, together with the party leadership, we wake up to find peaceful means and methods to remove Mugabe from power.
“We remain unapologetic on our desire to see a post-Mugabe era and we will do all we can to ensure that the people of Zimbabwe are truly liberated,” said Chidziva.
Chidziva said the police have launched a man hunt for him over the last week of protests but he remains defiant saying the police should stop victimising his colleagues under the fuss of trying to flush him out of his hiding since he is very much visible.
“If the police are keen on arresting me, with the sophisticated intelligence network of Robert Mugabe I am sure they know where to find me. The Wednesday demo against police brutality had a clear route and we followed that route religiously. We passed through many shops and police barricades but we were able to maintain peace and order because our issues were bigger than looting or harassing the police. When the police violently broke our march we ceased to be in control,” Chidziva said.
He went on to blame the violence from last week’s demonstrations on Zanu PF saying their youths militia were the ones who provoked the chaos and destroyed property of innocent people in a bid to tarnish the MDC-T’s image.
“The coming in of a third hand in our demonstration can only be traced to Zanu PF’s youth leader Kudzai Chipanga who has publicly stated that he will send in militia to disturb peaceful demonstrations. We hold him responsible for the violence that took place in Harare and we urge the police to arrest him.
“Let me reiterate that our struggle is bigger than looting and destruction of property, we seek to remove Mugabe and nothing will distract us from our mission. If given an opportunity we would loot, steal or destroy Mugabe and his regime not these innocent vehicles because we even need them in rebuilding our Zimbabwe after Robert is gone.
“Ours is a peaceful struggle against the dictatorship of Mugabe and we urge all Zimbabweans to keep on the pressure as we finish this struggle,” Chidziva said.
Chidziva said they are planning to take the demonstrations to provinces so that they can get everyone involved.
In Masvingo, the authorities are on high alert with a demonstration against police brutality in the offing and riot police have been deployed to guard areas the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority’s (ZIMRA) offices which are said to be a target.news

It is the same police which is used by government to thwart anyone who engage in peaceful demonstration against maladministration. Are you forgetting that Mussolini is always right and no one has right to demonstrate against his misrule? Kkkkk this iron fist rule will take us nowhere. Ndovarwi chaivo chaivo ava kwete some opportunists like Chinotimba and uyu wembanje uyu. Is she called Chimhene, Chimheni or Chimene? Whatever! Wati kungodherera Mnangagwa hakozve!
Mapombi however has a clear message for these fly by nights war vets. I mean that clique of opportunists who were born before independence who are now masquerading as war vets. Zundu kugara mundove hanzi ndava mombe kkkkkkkkk kusaziva kufa shuwa. Some of you were sell-outs during the war and now mava kuda kungwarira paduri sehuku. Haaa mutiitire mushe imi!
Mapombi heard a group of self-styled war vets gathered at Gutu turn-off paRoy apo over the weekend hanzi tava kuda kupanana minda kutoisa nekaflag kkkkkkk this flag? Aah sorry not that flag ya Evan Mawarire – zvinhu zvizhinji zvichatinetsa kutaura pano pamba. Muchakura rinhiko nhaimi? Is this not the same place other genuine war vets were kicked out a few months ago? Let’s wait and see.  Muchapadzingwa futi.
Anyway, Mapombi will not waste time speaking about these useless self-styled war vets vanonyengetedzwa netuminda twenhando utwo. I am happy the genuine war vets have remained resolute. They want the CEO of this country to retire. For the good of the country of course. They want Mngangagwa to replace him but eish, the Crocodile seems to be in deep sleep. Wake up Croc! Kkkkkkk pamwe muchatinyepera kuti ingwena muchiziva henyu kuti igwavava!
Anyway, whether it’s a genuine or fake Crocodile it does not matter. Mahiya, Matemadanda, Mutsvangwa and vana Chinoooneka they want him to be given a chance ambotongawo. Mapombi want to commend these cdes for their unwavering support for Mnangagwa. Even ana gogo Mahofa and Josaya Hungwe they also support Mngangagwa to take over. I like the spirit our Cdes have; they have people at heart. In fact they want to save Zanu PF from so called gay gangsters and the Gushungo 40 (G40) faction which seems to be destroying the party from within. Go Mahiya go. Go Mutsvangwa go. Go Nhando go!
