Local dancehall artists rocks Zaka schools

Brighton Chiseva

Zaka – A group of five locally-based dancehall artists are taking Zaka schools by storm by giving door to door shows at secondary schools in the district for a very small fee.
Calling themselves the SwaGman Team, the artistes have already done two shows at Zaka and at Chinorumba high schools.
They are also scheduled to do another show this weekend at St Anthony High which is expected to be the last before the school term ends.
Speaking to TellZim News, the group’s leader and producer, Kainos Musara aka Gun Barrel said they have decided to do shows at schools to grow their fan base before they can test outside waters.
“The shows are meant to grow our fan base as we have discovered that most of our fans are school children. We have decided to bring them our music right to their door steps,” said Musara
With a clearance from the district education office, SwaGman Team said the reception they are receiving from the schools is more overwhelming than they had ever anticipated.
“Some schools have invited us after the successful show at Zaka High but we will only be able to visit them next term because we have a tight schedule and the school term is about to end,” added Musara.
Musara owns Village 18 studio in Jerera which is helping many ambitious young artistes advance their dreams.
Zaka High School pupils who spoke to this publication after the show at their school said the group was made up of talented artistes who are inspiring other youngsters.
Meanwhile, the group has received a boost after they were invited to give entertainment at the upcoming district provincial Heroes Day celebrations.
Other team members include Nyasha Chitumwa aka Laden Vybes, Pride Shara aka Seh Selectah.

The Crocodile that never was!

0
Mapombi, too, is now convinced that a crocodile and a lizard are two different reptiles. Totally different and have no similarities whatsoever except that they are all reptiles. Kkkkkkkkk iyi yamunoti Ngwena iyi haisi zvachose. Chidhambakura ichi  kkkkkkk gwavava chairo!
When we were growing up kwedu kwaChirimudombo uko we used to know that a crocodile is the most dangerous reptile, with some cases of livestock and even human beings devoured by crocodiles in rivers and dams. This is the kind of crocodiles Mapombi has ever known. And lizards are harmless; in fact, they run for cover in caves each time they come across livestock and human beings.
Mapombi had pinned hope for economic turnaround on Emmerson ‘Ngwena’ Mnangagwa but the recent developments in Zanu PF made me conclude that this guy is not really like a crocodile as his name may suggest. Hakuna ngwena yakadai, never! Nhadha kurambira pachiPutukezi!
We all know Ngwena haidye chebamba asi chayo chinouyaka neronga nhai. How can a mere Mandiitawepi Chimene publicly humiliated and attacked Mnangagwa and the Zanu PF’s second in command remained quiet. Just three months ago it happened again when Sarah Mahoka likened Ngwena to a duckie kkkkkkkkk hanzi baba musaita sedhakisi kkkkkk asi Mahoka so ka! Ukawana nguva utiitire mushe handika?
Mandiitawepi accused Mnangagwa of leading both the Tshlotsho declaration in 2004 and Team Lacoste. Ndokujairirwa nepwereka uku. Pwere kutambira chitsvambe mudziva rine ngwena shuwa and go scot free. When we were growing up we were told dziva guru idiva kamwe ukadzokera kepiri unowana ngwena dzasvinura!  But mapombi has since realized that was a lie Ngwena hadzisvinure zvekumhanya. Mahoka akadhidha, Chimene akadzokera kepiri akangowana dzakavata ngwena and now vana Kasukuwere nana Zhuwao twava kutouyawo. E-eh ko kutyei  when they have realized that the Croc is not real.
As if that is not enough, Chris Mutsvangwa was axed for supporting Mnangagwa, Victor Matemadanda and Douglas Mahiya were arrested for publicly announcing their allegiance to Mnangagwa. Matemadanda and mahiya are being persecuted because they believe that Mugabe, who is turning 93 years old in the next six months, should retire and be replaced by Ngwena.
But instead of supporting these fellow comrades who are fighting for a noble cause, Ngwena distanced self from Team Lacoste and even referred to the War vets’ actions as irresponsible. Kkkkkkkkk kutoita kapress conference to disregard fellow Cdes.
Kkkkkkkk Mahoka was very right; “Baba musaita sedhakisi rinopedzerwa vana rakatarisa richingoti wo-oooh. Kkkkkk pambili naCde Mahoka! Mapombi used to admire Ngwena but the recent developments made her to withdraw her allegiance forthwith – kufira mafufu segonzo handichade. Puu-u ndachera chikomba ndapfira handichazozvipamha futi kusupporter Ngwena.  Mapombi has since discovered that zizi harina nyanga inzeve!
Those who still think of supporting Ngwena please do so at your own peril ini kufira mahara handichada! At least G40 protects its cdes. Iyezvino vari kupanana maresidential stands everywhere but Team Lacoste hakuna zviriko.  Gogo Mahofa had tried to reward Team Lacoste members by allocating them sugarcane farms in the Lowveld but Bob akazviramba.
Mapombi is a gentleman handivanzi kufira kureva zvingava nani pakadai. We used to hear of sellouts during the liberation war. Mapombi is convinced sellouts are still there even in present today. Masvingo province has made it known even to Mugabe and Dr Grace that they support Mnangagwa to take over. Midlands too declared their allegiance to Ngwena too. And the genuine war vets are for Mnangagwa but, alas, the Croc distanced self from these people. Kkkkkk pane kutengesa kunodarika ikoku? Kkkkk Mapombi now knows kuti the only Makaranga who were brave in Zanu PF were Edson Zvobgo and Dzikamai Mavhaire chete. Mavhaire said Mugabe Must Go!
Mavhaire and Zvobgo were true brave cdes kwete izvi zvatava kuoneswa izvi.  Anyway, what else can one expect from Makaranga except bootlicking?  Kkkkkkk kubva munhu atya Mandiitawepi Chimene to that extent? Kkkkkkk inga zvakaoma.
Mapombi would like to make it clear; from today onwards she has stopped forthwith supporting Ngwena because she realized that he has no people at heart. Ngwena left Mahiya, Matemadanda, Mutsvangwa, Mahofa nana Josaya hungwe when they needed him the most, and for this reason, mapombi decided to end her marriage with Ngwena. Mapombi also realized that Ngwena is in fact a fake Croc; he is in actual a lizard. Hakuna Ngwena inotya kudai!
Aa-h it’s almost lunch time regai ndiende zvangu kwedu kuDr Grace Trading Centre ndindokanga hangu maputi angu for lunch. By the way maticha akazowana here salary pamwe vanganditengerawo some rotten bananas? I miss rotten bananas hey! Musaseka; hazvisekesi izvi. Mapombi never dreamed of this kind of life yekurara muma plastic iyi nekudya rotten bananas and maputi but many thanks to Mugabe government. Zvichaiwanawo ngwarati! One day is one day. Regai zvavo vaneropa remari vana Mphoko vadye isu takati vava but manje manje tichajamuka chete nekuti maguta kunyarwa. Mboko imboko!

New clinic for Chasiyatende

0
Kennedy Murwira

Chivi – Chivi Rural District Council, with the assistance of Vision Trust, a non-governmental organisation with an interest in health afairs, is building a new community clinic in the Chasiyatende area.
The clinic, which is expected to be complete before the end of the year, will service a large number of villagers most of whom are struggling with poor access to health services.
Speaking to TellZim News, Chivi RDC Chief Executive Officer, Tariro Matavire, said the decision to build the clinic came after the realisation that members of the community were walking long distances to the nearest health facility.
“The nearest health facilities are at Razi and Ngundu which are approximately 15 kilometres and 25 kilometres away respectively. Construction of Chasiyatende Clinic started early last year and it is almost complete.
“Two of the staff houses are near completion while construction work on the third has already started,” Matavire said, adding that the clinic should be ready for use by the end of the year.
“During construction of the clinic the community provided the bricks, labour and food and accommodation for the builders who came from the Headquarters 4 Brigade Construction Unit. Vision Trust provided the cement and all related building materials while council co-ordinated the periodic inspections from the health and public construction ministries,” said Matavire.
He said it was the council’s hope that the new clinic will improve health service delivery in the area while also impacting positively on economic growth.
“The community endured long distances to the nearest health facilities and this affected economic activity while expectant mothers sometimes failed to attend the pre-natal clinic. This went on after giving birth as mothers skipped vaccinations due to the distances involved.
“The opening of the clinic should improve service delivery while giving the community more time to spend on their economic activities,” he said.
Matavire added that the improvement in service delivery should see a reduction in the prevalence of diseases in an area which, he said, has an acute shortage of transport to ferry the sick to hospital.

Khetani Michael Banda back from Theatre Performance In Greece

0

Doug Hill
Actor Khetani Michael Banda, who is also Charles Austin Theatre’s current Artistic Director, was last month selected by the International Theatre Institute of Zimbabwe to represent the country at the Dodona International Collaborative Project which was staged in Greece on the 20th of July 2016. The project had actors and actresses from Chile, France, Germany, Sweden, Egypt, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and Greece performing scenes from classic Greek tragedies written by Sophocles, Euripides and Aeschylus. The two-hour production directed by Greek director Vasilis Kontaxis was performed at the 2500 year-old Dodona amphitheatre and was attended by an audience of 2000 people.
Khetani Michael Banda was chosen to play Oedipus in Oedipus Tyrant, written by Sophocles, which is considered to be Greek literature’s greatest tragedy. The play tells the unfortunate tale of a young man who unknowingly kills his father and sleeps with his mother. After discovering the truth in horror Oedipus, now king of the kingdom that used to be of the man he murdered, then stabs out his eyes; “When he could see he was blind of the truth, but when he was blind he could now see the truth.” Khetani performed the scene when Oedipus gouges out his eyes and addresses the men of his court and his people in confusion, shock and anger. Since each actor/actress was expected to perform his or her text in the native language of his or her country Khetani performed in Shona.
When asked to comment on the experience Khetani had this to say,” Participating in the Dodona International Collaborative Project will be a highlight in my creative and spiritual life forever. I got to work with actors and actresses all over the world, most of whom had over 20 years of experience. I learnt a lot from them about how an artist should stay motivated on and off stage. The greatest joy however was performing in my mother language, Shona, in one of the oldest and most sacred theatres ever built. Just hearing Shona resounding through the audience was a God-given honour. And the hospitality of Greek people was absolutely amazing. I’m happy to be back home and utilize the energy that I absorbed there for local theatre projects. And I’m really looking forward to travelling more.”
Khetani is now back at the Charles Austin Theatre and said he is currently working on a play production for August. To get more information on the Charles Austin Theatre join its Facebook page Friends of the Charles Austin Theatre or simply visit the venue.

Family distraught as 8-year-old mysteriously dies

0
Memory Rasa

GUTU – A Mpandawana family is still in shock after a grade three pupil at Gona Primary School mysteriously died after complaining of pains in his legs.
An autopsy conducted in Masvingo later revealed Festos Dumbu (8) succumbed to extremely dangerous poison.
The matter came to light six days after his death when police abruptly ordered that the burial be suspended to enable a post mortem.
The boy’s grief- stricken family was further hurt as they had to abort burial arrangements.
Gutu Resident Magistrate Edwin Marecha had refused to sign a burial order without clarity on the cause of death.
The boy was about to be buried in Makonese village, Cheif Chimombe, in Bhashera.
Festos died after a short illness in the early hours of July 16 in Gona village under chief Gutu while sleeping in the same room with his mother.
Maria Moga, Festos’ mother said she was awakened by a strong smell of faeces and  she checked on him, she realised he was dead.
“He had complained of pain in his leg before we went to sleep. I did not realise the situation was that bad. Early the following morning, I was shocked to realise he was dead.
“I was confused but I managed to clean him and change his clothes before carrying him on my back to Gutu Rural Clinic.
“The sister-in-charge confirmed my son was dead so I proceeded to Gutu Police station with the corpse to make a report. The officer-in-charge , Inspector Tomwe, took  the body to the morgue in his own car,” said Moga.
The body was released on Monday without a burial order from Gutu Mission Hospital morgue.
The boy’s uncle, Tivakose Chikunhuwe said they were then asked not to proceed with the burial just as they were about to bury him.
“I received a call from Inspector Tomwe telling us not to bury the child and wait for him. He came and we took the body back to Gutu Mission Hospital where they transferred us to Masvingo for post-mortem.
Autopsy results revealed that the death had been caused by a heart failure, some veins had burst and blood was clotting on the affected leg. The doctor also said that the failure was  caused by poison,” said Chikunhuwe.
Festos was finally buried on Friday, July 22.
The family still have a lot of questions on how Festos got poisoned but they suspect he might have accidentally consumed the poison or, worse still, might have been poisoned at neighbours’ places.
“He was still young and could not have thought of committing suicide, it is so sad because we will never know what really happened to him. He was a quiet and intelligent boy,” said Moga.

Mining Company invades homesteads in Mashava

0
Itai Muzondo

Mashava – A small scale mining company, Icon Alloys Chrome Mine owned by one Takunda Mujimi has invaded homesteads in Masvingo’s ghost mining town of Mashava which has left locals exposed to environmental and health hazards, TellZim News can reveal.
Disgruntled Mambo Township dwellers said they fear for their lives as the company is opening pits which are more than 30 meters deep on their doorsteps.
“As you can see, our homesteads have been invaded by this mine. All these pits you see pose dangers to our lives but it seems the mine more concerned with making profits than our lives. The police are always here but we have not seen them taking action to correct the situation,” said one Chipo Munjanja.
Another resident, gogo Shumba said the behavior of the company was alien in the community.
“We grew up in this mining town and we now have grandchildren and things have never been like this. No mining activities have invaded our homesteads before. I live in fear as I take care of my ten grandchildren who might fall in one of these traps around the compound.
“The company which used to exploit minerals in the past gave us jobs, took care of our environment and general upkeep of local infrastructure, not what we are seeing now. They are instead worsening the situation which turned tense after the mine closed,” said gogo Shumba
In a report pushing for the mine’s closure, EMA highlighted that the mine failed to obtain an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) certificate and has further posed several dangers to the community.
“The mine does not have an EIA certificate. There has been great environmental degradation as numerous pits have been dug indiscriminately and unsustainably within homesteads. These pits endanger human lives as they are within homesteads. There is also a possibility of stagnant water pools and pits in the event that the area receives heavy downfalls,” the report reads.
Deputy Minister of Mines, Fred Moyo said he would want to see mining being done in a proper manner but was not well-informed about this particular matter.
“How did those claims come into residential areas? Which came first, the claims or the homesteads? As a Ministry we say no residential stands should be pegged on top of claims and no claims should be pegged where there are residential stands. We even note that all mining operations should keep a certain distance from residential areas so am puzzled with this development,” Moyo said.
EMA Provincial Director Robson Mavondo said the operations of the new miner have become a threat to locals.
“We are currently battling with this issue as families are in danger, and that I confirm. We visited the site back in April and ordered the mine to stop all operations on top of a US$500 ticket we gave them. They only paid the fine but never stopped mining.
“We went further to request Mashava police station to open a docket but no progress has been made with the case. Instead, the investigating officer, Constable Mnengerwa came to us saying we could not freeze operation because the mine had appealed but we were left with many questions,” Mavondo said.
“The Environmental Management Act, Chapter 20:27 says any person who is aggrieved by any decision of EMA may, within 28 days after being notified of the decision or action of the authority concerned, appeal in writing to the Minister. It further clearly indicates that … provided that such appeal shall not suspend the operation of any order, decision or action of the authority issued by the authority,” added Mavondo.
An employee at the mine said they are aware of dangers they are posing to the community though he said they have no choice since the old asbestos mine has failed to pay them for long.
“Since the mine closed, we were never formally dismissed but all of a sudden, we started facing challenges in receiving our salaries. That being the situation, we were left with no formal employment and an earning for our living thus us seeking jobs to small scale miners and ultimately endangering our community and because of this, hundreds have fled their homesteads” the mine employee said.
Efforts to get a comment from Mujimi could not materialise by the time of going to press.

Field day for new Chivi dam

0

Kennedy Murwira

CHIVI – A field day which is expected to be attended by senior government and Arex officials is set to be held on the 28th of next month at the recently completed Musvinini Dam and Irrigation Project in Ward 15 of Chivi District.
Construction of the dam, which was funded by Care International and its funding partners, started in 2014 with villagers providing their labour on a food for work basis. The non-governmental organisations involved in the project also provided building materials and the technical expertise.
Dam Committee member, Tanatsiwa Bvuchete, told TellZim News last week that the dam was built to counter the effects of drought and to supply a constant source of water for livestock.
“Chivi is prone to lengthy dry spells and the idea of the dam was to counter the effects of the hunger and starvation that accompany droughts.
“Numerous villages from the Matsveru and Makonese areas were involved in the dam construction and will benefit from the irrigation project that is being implemented closeby,” said Bvuchete.
Bvuchete said the villagers who took part in the dam construction received food handouts from Care International and its funding partners every month for the duration of the construction period.
He said after completion, irrigation plots were identified next to the dam and they are expected to be operating full scale soon.
“At least 120 families will benefit from the irrigation plots which have been pegged near the dam. The families will be expected to conform to the standards of the irrigation project which has been put in place to improve food security,” he said.
Bvuchete said the handover of the dam to the community is expected to take place on the same day that the field day is going to be held.

Team Lacoste wins as plot to axe Matuke, Makwarimba fails

0
Upenyu Chaota

Masvingo – Five Zanu PF heavyweights have been set off the hook after allegations of misconduct levelled against them by the provincial executive were thrown out of the window by the National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) due to lack of evidence and breach of procedure.
Former Chivi Central legislator and politburo member Paul Mangwana, former Masvingo provincial chairperson and Masvingo West legislator Ezra Chadzamira, Chief Whip and Gutu Central legislator Lovemore Matuke, Masvingo South legislator Edmund Mhere and Senator Clemence Makwarimba were last week exonerated of all misconduct.
The five members are all suspected of being with the so-called Team Lacoste and had lately been subjected to intense pressure from the rival G40 faction which is fighting to have them expelled.
With all the charges that were being levelled against the five gone and the mooted no-confidence plans now in disarray, Team Lacoste’s fortunes in the provnce seem to have rebounded at least for the time being.
The NDC ruled in favour of the five because the provincial executive is said to have no disciplinary power over central committee or politburo members.
Matuke said the vote of no confidence recommendation was dramatised and did not follow the correct party procedure.
“We were summoned to a disciplinary meeting in Harare to answer to the charges which the provincial executive had levelled against us. The provincial executive had recommended a vote of no confidence but since they failed to follow the correct procedure, all the allegations were dropped.
“There was no proper meeting conducted to make that resolution. It was the provincial chairperson Amasa Nhenjana who just compiled the letter on behalf of the other members and sent it to Harare,” said Matuke.
Matuke said the move by the provincial chairperson and his executive can be equated to a subordinate trying to fire the boss in an organisation.
“They have no case against us and we have no case to answer either. That is why the case was dismissed,” Matuke said.
Mangwana, who has reportedly been on the hit list for a long time, is said to have boycotted the disciplinary hearings challenging the validity of the charges against him and his colleagues.
