MWENEZI – Catholics from as far as the Midlands province and other areas last Saturday converged at Sacred Heart High School to witness the ordaining of Dereck Makena and Keith Zivanai who recently completed their brotherhood courses.
The colourful ceremony was attended by dignitaries like the dean of Southern Deanery’s Father Samson Mutsvanga, many priests and church representatives from different corners of the country.
It was also graced by Roman Catholic Masvingo Dioceses bishop Sekuru Michael Bhasera.
Part of the vow made by brothers Makena and Zivanai to show their commitment to lead brotherhood lives as per God’s will reads:
“I…consecrate myself to God…. I commit myself to live as a brother of Christ, deeply united with him in unceasing prayer, as a brother to everyone…. I make to God the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience according to the Rule of life of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart for life—.”
Speaking at the occasion and on behalf of Bishop Sekuru Bhasera, Fr Mutsvanga expressed gratitude over the sterling work being done by Brothers of Sacred Heart across Masvingo province and beyond.
He urged the faithful to complement the two brother’s divine calling by praying for them so that they could lead lives that please the Lord.
The 33-year-old Makena and 30-year-old Zivanai come from Chirumhanzu and Zaka respectively. They started their 10-year brotherhood courses at Loreto High School before furthering their studies in Zambia and later on in Kenya.religion
