19 Feb 2019 – CHIVHU – The Methodist Church in Zimbabwe Chivhu Circuit last Saturday embarked on a clean-up campaign which saw church members collecting refuse and litter in a town with pathetic service delivery.
Led by Superintendent Paul Karanda, the faithful took their time to clear huge piles of rubbish some of which had spent weeks without being collected.
Chivhu refuse removal work is done by just one small and old tractor which has to service both the residential areas and the CBD.
Chivhu Circuit Steward Nicholas Mudzinganyama said council own its own cannot do everything.
“Vendors are all over so we have litter. Council on its own cannot afford to do what is enough so as part of the community, we are complementing the work being done by council,” said Mudzinganyama.
Chikomba Rural District Council Chairman, Pardon Mudzimu praised the Methodist Church saying their decision to clean the town was exemplary.
“As council, we are glad to have the Methodist Church doing such wonderful work. We support such activities to make sure that our town is clean and free from diseases such as typhoid,” said Mudzimu.
Ward 12 Councillor, Alderman Munyati, who was part of the clean-up campaign, expressed gratitude to Superintendent Karanda for motivating other congregants.
“This programme was initiated by Methodist Church in Zimbabwe. We alone are not capable so as a councillor, I appreciate the superintendent for the initiative and I encourage the community to learn from the church,” said Munyati.
Another ward councillor, Godfrey Kurebwaseka also praised the church for for showing a strong commitment to public health and cleanliness.
“This town belongs to all of us and we would like to thank the Methodist Church for leading by example with regards to keeping the environment clean,” said Kurebwaseka.religion
