17 Feb 2017 – MASVINGO – Four candidates successfully filed their papers with the nomination court which sat at the Masvingo Magistrates Court this afternoon to contest in the Mwenezi East parliamentary by-election scheduled for April 8.
The four candidates are Joosbi Omar of Zanu PF, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti of ZimPF, Welcome Masuku of National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) and Mango Turner of Free Zimbabwe Congress.
Speaking to TellZim News after the close of the nomination court, Omar said he was confident of winning the seat so that he can coordinate development in the area.
“I am very confident of our chances as Zanu PF because there is no competition for us. There are a lot of projects in stock for the people of Mwenezi East. I am a developer so I want to implement a lot of programmes in line with ZimAsset,” said Omar.
Bhasikiti also exuded confidence at the close of the nomination court, saying the people of Mwenezi were ready for an alternative to Zanu PF.
“We will win the seat because people are tired of the failed policies of the ruling party. The Zimbabwe People First is the only alternative for the people of Mwenezi who are tired of being lied to,” said Bhasikiti.
This publication also managed to speak to Masuku who said the NCA presented a chance for the people of Mwenezi East to vote for a candidate who cares for the people.
“We are very confident of our chances in Mwenezi East. We have held some meetings with the people there and have listened to their concerns. People want good leadership because they know Zanu PF has created all the problems that the people face. The people cannot vote for thieves, only the NCA will deliver on its promises,” said Masuku.
He also indicated the party was doing well considering that it was only formed in 2013 saying it would build upon its performance in last month’s Bikita West by-election where it got 343 votes.politics
