Veterinary officers in Zvishavane and Mberengwa have urged farmers to purchase supplementary livestock dipping chemicals at their own cost as government cannot meet all demand due to purported shortages in the supply chain.
In an interview with TellZim News, Midlands Veterinary Officer, Dr Maguranyanga said the available chemicals did not allow the veterinary department to fulfil its mandate of dipping livestock weekly.
“The stocks that are available cannot allow us to fulfil our mandate of dipping livestock’s weekly as is supposed to be done. So due to this situation, we are now forced to dip livestock’s monthly.
“I therefore urge famers and livestock owners to purchase their dip in advance and spray for themselves. So all farmers should consult veterinary services and get the necessary information about the required chemicals they can use for their live stocks,” said Maguranyanga.
He encouraged farmers to use authorised dipping methods recommended by the veterinary services while waiting for the rectification of the challenge being faced.
“I urge farmers to use authorised dipping measures that are approved by the veterinary services and give time to the department as we are working hard to deal with the situation at hand in order to bring things to normality,” Maguranyanga said.local
