CHIREDZI – Aspiring Chiredzi West Member of Parliament (MP) Farai Musikavanhu has criticised Chiredzi Town Council for corruption, urging informal traders operating on council-designated land to stop paying for their market stalls.

Musikavanhu is fighting against his arch nemesis; council chairperson Francis Moyo who is also interested in the same parliamentary seat currently held by another bitter rival, Darlington Chiwa.

Musikavanhu addressed a group of vendors last week and told them that council did not have their interests at heart as shown by palpable failure to upgrade their selling points.

He also attacked Moyo for discouraging vendors from occupying the ground that he has volunteered to spruce up close to N. Richards Hardware.

“They are afraid of me and that is why they are telling you not go to the new ground I am preparing. They want you to remain at undesignated places so that the project becomes a laughing matter.

“Our leaders in the council are aware that they are about to go and if you let them go without solving these problems, it will be a mess.

“Your $15 monthly taxes to council is being misused, so you must stop paying your hard-earned money to this corrupt council,” charged Musikavanhu.

He said the money that is being paid to council was being wasted by Moyo whom he accused of being selfish.

Mari yenyu yamuri kutamburira ikuitwa mahumbwe nemunhu agara aine avinhu zvake kudhara uyezve mukatarisisa background aitokorokozawo semi asi akutadza kufunga vamwe vake, pasi nemazvake mazvake (Your money is being squandered by a selfish person who used to hustle around as you are doing),” said Musikavanhu.

Chiredzi District Administrator (DA) Lovemore Chisema criticised the cheap politicking by the prospective MPs, saying a Local Government ministerial order against illegal vending activities remained.

“We are standing with circular number 1 of 2018. The contents are still the same, there is no change. There is only confusion caused by some individual due to political pressure,” said Chisema.politics
