MWENEZI – The Mwenezi Rural District Council (MRDC) last Wednesday embarked on a massive clean-up campaign at Neshuro growth point as part of wider efforts to maintain a healthy environment.
The European Union (EU) – funded Local Authority Capacity Enhancement Project (LACEP), last year allocated funds to the rural council to help in the improvement of solid waste management.
The clean-up campaign also saw the installation of refuse bins at the growth point.
MRDC executive officer for Agriculture and the Environment, Kudzai Sirewu praised LACEP and other stakeholders for making the campaign a success.
“As MRDC we really appreciate the funds received from LACEP. They made this campaign a resounding success. Besides that, we also thank other stakeholders who chipped in with different forms of assistance.
“These include Mwenezi Development Training Centre, Mr Joosbi Omar who donated 10 bins and foodstuffs and other various stakeholders who participated and contributed to the campaign,” said Sirewu.
The guest of honour, Kenneth Madziva, who represented the Mwenezi District Administrator (DA), said the fact that people of all age groups participated in the campaign reflected strong commitment by all citizens to environmental cleaniliness.
He said the clean-up campaign acted as a powerful message that a clean environment is critical to public health and urged people not to throw litter everywhere.
Pupils from Mwenezi Government High School and Masogwe Primary School also took part in the clean-up campaign.
The rural council is also scheduled to carry-out a similar campaign at Rutenga growth point in March.local
