New GZU SRC now in place

A
total of 14 Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) Student Representative Council
(SRC) members were sworn in by the Vice Chancellor Professor Rungano Zvobgo at
Herbert Chitepo School of law on Monday, July 22.
The
council is dominated by members of the Zimbabwe National Students Union
(Zinasu) which won most of the seats during elections held on May 09.
Members
of the Zimbabwe Congress of Students Union (Zicosu) and Youth Advocacy for
Reform and Development Students Congress (YardSC) are a minority in the
council.
Speaking
at the inauguration ceremony, Zvobgo advised the SRC members to be good leaders
who will lead by example.
“We
expect nothing but the best from you as leaders of the students and you have to
remember no one is above the law despite the position they have,” said Zvobgo.
Zinasu’s
Takudzwa Ngadziore, who was sworn in as president of the SRC, told TellZim News
he was pleased to lead on behalf of all students.
“I
am excited because this is an opportunity to serve the interest of all
students. My work will be to do what I am supposed to do. I cannot say that we
will solve all the problems which students face but as leaders, we will do our
best to meet expectations.
“We
will consider that our university has fragmented compasses and we will represent
all the compasses equally,” Ngadziore said.
Transport
minister Kudakwashe Muchini said the new leadership will move to attend to the
transport problems faced by students.
