Obekon Sports company has donated soccer kit to Masvingo Journalists FC in preparation for the upcoming social soccer league season.
Obekon Sports Director Dr Ellison Musara indicated that their main purpose is to support communities in and around Masvingo.
“We use our sports company as a vehicle to support communities. We look at sports as a way of strengthening communities.
“Journalists play a very important role of informing, educating, entertaining and developing a country so we saw it fit to donate a soccer kit to their local team so that they can interact with their sources while playing soccer,” said Dr Musara.
He went on to say that their theme as a company is to support and strengthen local communities.
“It is our pleasure to have this opportunity to support Masvingo Journos FC as part of efforts to support and strengthen communities through sport which is our theme,” added Dr Musara.
He also said in sport everyone is included be it women, children or youths.
“We have been doing this since 2010 especially in Zaka. We support youth teams, schools, and women in soccer especially in Zaka where we tried very much to support girls who play soccer. The good thing about sport is it does not exclude age, adults, young people, women’s team, everyone is included,” he said.
“The biggest donation we did was in Zaka we donated to all high schools in Zaka North. We gave each school soccer, netball, volley ball kits, and balls to all teams in Zaka North,” Dr Musara added.
Masvingo Journos FC Chairperson Passmore Kuzipa said they really appreciate the donation by Obekon Sports.
“We appreciate this gesture; fitness is very important to us as journalists. We invite other business people to come and support our team,” said Kuzipa.
He said that the football club formed way back is meant to support journalists and the community.
“It was formed way back and the main reason was to create an informal engagement platform with the members of the community and news sources and many other community groups.
“Besides serving as a way of attaining fitness, it creates a platform for interaction between journalists and news sources, understanding and covering issues which are topical in the community,” said Kuzipa.
