MUTARE – Drama ensued at Forbes Border Post on Tuesday when sacked Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s bid to exit the country into neighbouring Mozambique was blocked.
Barely 24 hours after being fired from government, Mnangagwa, who was in the company of four other people believed to be his relatives, had a torrid time trying to exit the border despite the fact that their passports had already been stamped.
Eye witnesses who spoke to TellZim News said the problem started when Mnangagwa’s car was being searched by security details at the border.
“When he reached the exit gate, it took almost 20 minutes searching his car and at that moment he disembarked the car after being delayed. The gate pass was for five people but only four people were there.
“He started walking back to the entrance gate but no one identified him then as he was wearing a poor boy cap. He was stopped by police who grabbed him from behind but stopped after noticing who he was.
“Another policeman who had his AK47 cocked was unfortunate as he was kicked by Mnangagwa’s aide who had come to whisk him away. They fled the scene in two cars while the other car managed to cross the border,” said the source.
The incident happened in the morning and when TellZim News arrived later, the incident was the talk of the town.top news

MASVINGO – Council on Tuesday unveiled various Civic Awards won by the city over the past year, with emphasis being put on improving service delivery.
The Civic Awards were won during the 2016/2017 period as various stakeholders noted improvements in such fields as service delivery, budgetary control, gender equality, municipal services and community engagement.
Addressing people who came to witness the unveiling, City of Masvingo mayor, Hubert Fidze said council was preoccupied with improving services especially the provision of sufficient clean water to drink as well as regular refuse removal.
He also said vehicles purchased through the road levy were now being used to resurface some roads around the city.
“These Civic Awards are a testimony of the cordial relationship between residents as ratepayers and council. Without unity and working together among us, we could not have won these awards,” Fidze said.
City of Masvingo Town Clerk, Adolf Gusha also weighed in and praised the unity of purpose that he said existed in council despite the Councillors being of different political persuasions.
He emphasised the need to ensure that essential services like water, sanitation, health and burial facilities are always available regardless of who is in charge.local

G40’s kiss of death

Dr Walter Mzembi

  • Masvingo provincial chair Chadzamira kicked out after 3 months
  • Congress no go area for Team Lacoste members in Masvingo
  • Mzembi anointed Masvingo godfather, shoves Hungwe aside

MASVINGO – Events happening in Zanu PF party in Masvingo province can be best described as the Generation 40’s (G40) kiss of death as the faction is going for the kill ahead of the extra-ordinary congress slated for December this year, a development which has seen members of the rival Team Lacoste faction being eliminated at every level over a spate of allegations.
The latest most prominent casualty at the moment is provincial chair Ezra Chadzamira although there are indications that his colleagues in the province will soon be booted out too.
Chadzamira was last week suspended together with youth secretary for administration Brian Munyoro on allegations of indiscipline. Though Chadzamira and Lacoste members on Monday hurriedly organised a meeting which ran parallel to the welcome celebrations for the newly appointed Provincial Affairs minister Dr Paul Chimedza to try and reverse the suspensions, it seems G40 is already in control of the province now.
Addressing members at the welcome celebrations, newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Walter Mzembi, who was the guest of honour, warned Chadzamira that resisting suspension would result in him being kicked out of the party altogether.
“Nhenjana is the acting chairman because the former chairman Ezra Chadzamira was relieved of duty last week. If you are relieved of your duties, you accept and follow the procedure as per the letter served to you.
“I was once relieved of my duties in 2004 and I did not fight the suspension but waited for due process. When I was cleared of any wrong doing, I went back to my office. It does not help to fight suspension and start leading rebel groups in Masvingo, we don’t want that.
“You should not mislead people to follow your resistance movement to rise against President Mugabe. Saka ndiri kumuyambira muchinda uyu kuti kana wanzi uri suspended uchenjere kudzingwa zvachose (I am warning this guy [Chadzimira] that if he fights the suspension, he risks being fired from the party),” said Mzembi amid ululations from the crowd.
Provincial commissar Jeppy Jaboon, who was the Master of Ceremony (MC), kept the crowd in stitches by rubbishing Team Lacoste at every turn.
Mzembi, who is now referred to as the most senior member of the party in the province, said he will never watch indiscipline without taking action.
“When one third of angels in heaven turned against God in heaven they were kicked to earth and they influenced people to do bad things like what Chadzamira is doing. Two thirds of the angels remained in heaven and that is where the concept of two thirds majority springs from.
“If you win elections with two thirds majority, like Zanu PF, it means you will reign and God still reigns because he has two thirds. We need discipline, discipline, discipline,” said Mzembi.
President Mugabe’s ‘blue-eyed boy’ Mzembi was credited for pushing for Chimedza’s appointment as the resident minister.
Dr Chimedza said he will keep his doors open to everyone and will try to build bridges to create good relations in the province.
“I want to thank the President for giving me the privilege to serve. I will work towards bringing the people of Masvingo together. I know others will fight to create chaos and there is nothing I can do about them,” said Dr Chimedza.
Jaboon took a dig at the separate meeting held by disgruntled Chadzamira and company, saying although they were still in denial but the truth will soon sink in.
“Vachakabatwa nechiveve but they will soon come to terms with reality. They have been firing district chairpersons who did not support their cause but we are going to reinstate all of them.
“Kucongress hakuendwi nematsotsi. The congress shall only be attended by the people who support the President not those who pretend to like him by day and plot against him by night,” said Jaboon.
While Amasa Nhenjana is now acting chairperson of the province, Chiredzi West legislator Darlington Chiwa has been appointed provincial secretary for administration replacing Brian Munyoro who was suspended together with Chadzamira.
Chadzamira and other Lacoste minions snubbed the welcome ceremony of Dr Chimedza and caucused at Masvingo Provincial Show grounds where they were leaking their wound. They purportedly nullified the suspensions by the national commissariat describing Saviour Kasukuwere as mentally retarded.
The faction made it clear it will fight tooth and nail to make sure that the suspensions do not stand, saying they will write to the national secretary for administration Ignatius Chombo on their grievances.top news

Fidze greets Masvingo Urban Ward 7 Cllr Richard Musekiwa at the launch of the Christmas Cheer Fund

Clever Taperamoyo

City of Masvingo mayor Hubert Fidze on Wednesday, October 18, launched the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund 2017 as part of efforts to mobilise resources to give to the disadvantaged this festive season.
The fund is customary fundraising initiative which is designed to mobilise resources that are then distributed to the elderly, the poor, the disabled and disadvantaged children towards Christmas.
Last year, the fund raised some US$7 015 which was donated to such charities as Copota school for the blind, Alpha Cottages children’s home, Association for the Visually Handicapped, Pioneer Trust, Masvingo General Hospital and Mucheke Old People’s Home.
Fidze made a passionate plea to the public to show generosity to the less fortunate members of the community.
“Like I have done over the previous years, I am making an appeal to the business community and individuals to give the less fortunate people in our community a reason to smile this festive season,” Fidze said.
He also took the opportunity to urge residents to serve water saying at the moment, council was not only able to pump 30 mega litres of water per day against an average daily consumption requirement of 48 mega litres.local

MASVINGO – Rufaro Football Club (FC) won the ‘Tourney Aims to Unite Tournament’ held at Chiriga Primary School grounds under Chief Serima in Gutu last Friday, October 27.
The event saw 17 rural teams fighting it out for the trophy and prize money but it was Rufaro FC that stole the ultimate glory after putting up a spirited performance which saw them outclassing rivals to reach the finals.
In the quarter finals, Rufaro FC met Chiriga FC and the match ended with a one all draw. Their second quarter final match was against Granby FC whom they thrashed 3-0 to proceed to the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, Rufaro FC and Chiriga FC outclassed other teams, with Chiriga FC playing against Southdale FC whom they beat 1-0 thanks to Chrispen Musoro; the fast right attacker who scored the goal in extra time.
Another semi-final match was between Rufaro and Norwood FC. The match ended 3-0 in favour of Rufaro FC.
In the finals, Chiriga FC went on to clash with Rufaro FC but they were beaten 2-1, with Tryloving Zimunya scoring a brace which helped the winners to clinch the trophy.
Tournament director Lovemore Mujere said the purpose of the tournament wass to unite people, nurture new talent and improve physical fitness.
“The ultimate objective is to bring in coaches from big teams and other soccer legends like Moses Chunga but those are personalities that are not easy to get hold of. We hope that next season, such legends will come and identify promising talent,” Mujere said.
He said they were planning to continue with the tournament next season as they were looking forward for more sponsors to support the initiative.sport

‘Bvaru-Bvaru will not be relegated’

Takesure Chiragwi – Shabanie Mine FC head coach

Davison Marenga

ZVISHAVANE – Under siege Shabanie Mine FC gaffer Takesure Chiragwi is steadfast in his belief that his charges will not sink into the muddy waters of relegation when the curtains of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) come down in November.
Shabanie Mine FC are precariously sitting on position 15 with 32 points after blowing a perfect chance to collecting maximum points when they played against Triangle FC at Maglas Stadium over the weekend.
The match finished with a draw meaning Triangle FC is also very much still embroiled in the relegation matrix, sitting on position 11 with 37 points.
Earlier on, Bvaru-Bvaru saw their five match unbeaten run bubble burst at the hands of bitter city rivals FC Platinum in a mid week match played at Mandava Stadium where they lost two nil.
Chiragwi, however, is adamant that his side will claw its way out of the relegation zone, saying their main aim now is targeting a stay in the league.
“What is important now is to go back to the drawing board and concentrate on surviving relegation, which is key to the club. We are still in and still fighting, the guys did well and that point is okay. It adds to our points tally and will be valuable at the end,” said Chiragwi.
There were ugly scenes after the match, with a number of Bvaru-Bvaru supporters baying for the blood of the club’s technical manager Taku Shariwa whom they accused of sabotaging the coach.
The irate supporters stoned Shariwa’s car as he sped away from the angry mob.
This season’s bottom of the log is tightly contested with only six points separating 9th placed Black Rhinos FC and the relegation-threatened Bvaru-Bvaru, meaning that any slip in form will result in rivals escaping the relegation horror and leaving the misfortune for others.sport

Chinyika bar converted into ZEC office

Nyasha Marumbi

GUTU – A popular council bar at Chinyika business centre has been shut down, renovated and converted for use by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) which is on a drive to reach out to more people to register to vote.
The building is now being used by the Registrar General’s office to issue birth certificates and national identity card as well as by the electoral body to register people as voters.
During an interview with TellZim News, Member of Parliament for Gutu North, Ticharwa Madondo said it was pointless to have a bar when people were not registered to vote.
“This renovation was done so as to help citizens to acquire the required documentation needed for one to vote,” said Madondo.
He told residents that he hoped the building will continue to serve its new purpose even after next year’s elections, saying a bar was less important than identity documents and the right to vote.
“I am going to raise an issue in Parliament that government should allow all citizens to have a national identity card even those without birth certificates. This will boost people’s morale and many will go to register to vote,” said Madondo.
Some people who spoke to TellZim News, however, expressed disappointment with the change of use, saying the bar used to be their favourite drinking joint where friends will find leisure after a hard day’s work.local

MASVINGO – Charumbira Primary School recently held an official opening ceremony for a two-classroom block which was constructed using resources from the Central Emergency Respond Fund (CERF) which created by Unicef to assist schools repair facilities destroyed by bad weather.
Speaking on behalf of the Provincial Education Director (PED) Zedius Chitiga, Masvingo District Schools Inspector (DSI) Ishmael Chigaba thanked parents and the school head for working together for the success of the project.
“On behalf of the Ministry, I would like to thank our parents and the school for a job well done. I encourage the parents and the school leadership to now focus their attention at upgrading other blocks,” Chigaba said.
He urged the school head to take advantage of the US$27 000 that will be distributed towards building Early Childhood Development (ECD) facilities in schools.
Chigaba also emphasised the need to start embarking on homegrown school feeding programmes, saying it was the responsibility of parents to feed their children.
Charumbira Primary School head Choice Mazhata thanked her staff, the School Development Committee (SDC), Chief Fortune Charumbira, Chitiga and CERF for their work which saw the project succeeding.
Established in the 1940s, the school has an enrollment of 491 pupils but most of its facilities are in need of urgent upgrades.local

Zanu PF Masvingo PEC wields axe on Hungwe, Chadzamira

Josaya Hungwe

…Mangwana, Matuke, Makwarimba, Mhere on firing line

Upenyu Chaota

MASVINGO – After President Robert Mugabe yesterday removed the kid gloves with which he has always treated his deputy Emmerson Mnangagwa by openly threatening that he can drop him for allegedly fanning factionalism in Masvingo and Midlands provinces, the Zanu PF Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) here has recommended the expulsion of all alleged Team Lacoste minions from the party.
Speaking at the meeting today, November 5, Zanu PF acting Masvingo provincial chairperson Amasa Nhenjana said the PEC has recommended the expulsion of all ‘rotten apples that keep on undermining the President’.
“We have recommended to the higher authority the expulsion of Josaya Hungwe, Paul Mangwana, Ezra Chadzamira, Edmund Mhere, Clemence Makwarimba and Lovemore Matuke from the party.
“These people have sown the seeds of division in the province and have undermined the authority of the President. We cannot let these people lead us anymore and we want them gone.
“We want people who support the President as the one centre of power,” said Nhenjana.
Nhenjana said he was tired of people who want to paint Masvingo as a problem province when in fact it is a few rogue elements that need to be chucked out.
“Masvingo is an independent province from the Midlands and we are not influenced in any way. The people in Midlands do things their way and we do ours our way. Masvingo stands by the President,” said Nhenjana.
President Mugabe and his wife Grace have been known for siding with the Generation 40 (G40) faction and as it stands, their faction has taken control of all the provinces ahead of the December congress.
Masvingo has been regarded as a bedrock for the beleaguered Mnangagwa but tables turned after Saviour Kasukuwere suspended provincial chairperson and strong Mnangagwa ally Chadzamira who is however fighting teeth and nail to nullify his suspension.
The PEC was also attended by politburo member Daniel Shumba and newly-appointed Foreign Affairs minister Walter Mzembi.
Shumba said as a senior politburo member, he will help lead in making sure that the recommendations of Masvingo PEC are heard.
“As the senior member, it is my job to make sure that I provide guidance to the province so that we all rally behind the President,” said Shumba.
Team Lacoste members in the province stand accused of sending a Chibi High School busload to boo Grace at the President’s penultimate youth interface rally at White City Stadium in Bulawayo yesterday.
The PEC said it will launch an inquiry on all the people who went to Bulawayo to undermine the President and bring them to book.
It is alleged that the boors were led by Charles Munganasa, a well-known Mnangagwa loyalist.top news

Gweru to privatise refuse collection

0

Siyabonga Sayi

GWERU – Council has admitted that it lacks capacity to collect refuse across the city owing to broken down waste removal vehicles and will soon outsource the service to private companies, TellZim News has learnt.
This comes shortly after council announced it was putting back to tender the supply of service delivery vehicles because the company that won the initial bid failed to do the job citing foreign currency shortages.
In a circular drafted after a special council meeting held recently, the city said it will contract private transporters to collect waste.
“Following the challenges experienced in the collection of solid waste due to inadequate refuse compactor trucks and frequent breakdowns due to ageing, the City of Gweru invites interested members of the community owning trucks ranging from 3.5 tonnes to 10 tonnes to submit their bids to the director of health services for consideration and possible hire of their vehicles for solid waste removal,” reads part of the circular.
Residents who spoke to TellZim News, however, were of the opinion that the plan will breed more corruption and patronage.
“No promise given to us residents has ever been fulfilled and all they think about is fattening their pockets. Think of how many of them or close relatives own such trucks? It’s those people who will be given the tenders and none of the plans are meant to serve us,” said a resident.
Learnmore Tafirenyika of Ascot said he expected nothing to improve as all council initiatives in the past have shown to be either ill-conceived or were made to promote self-interest.
“We have experienced poor service delivery by city council for a long time now and as the people, we have no confidence that their latest plans are well-meant. The people are throwing waste everywhere because they don’t have a choice,” said Tafirenyika.
The council has targeted areas like Woodlands, Ascot, Northleagh, Athlone, Nashville and KMP-Senga for waste collection by the private truckers.local
