Govt to upgrade Mbuya Nehanda High

MBERENGWA – Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Dr Lazarus Dokora says the government has accepted requests by villagers in Mberengwa East to upgrade Mbuya Nehanda High School into a boarding school.
Dr Dokora confirmed this on Saturday last week during an outreach programme in the constituency.
The school – the only government high school in the constituency – when upgraded, will be the first boarding school in the area.
“We received a request to upgrade Mbuya Nehanda High School into a boarding school and I want to confirm that the government has accepted the request,” Dr Dokora said.
He also used the visit to dispel widely held perceptions that the he was using the new education curriculum to prop up the Islamic faith.
People of the area say turning Mbuya Nehanda High School into a boarding school will benefit the constituency and Mberengwa as a whole which only has three Lutheran boarding schools namely Chegato, Msume and Masase, all high schools.
Also part of the outreach was the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Dr Joram Gumbo and the Member of Parliament for Mberengwa East Makhosini Hlongwane who is also the Minister of Sport and Recreation.
Mbuya Nehanda High School is located in Chief Negove’s area, Jonah village, 76km from Zvishavane due South East.local

MWENEZI – A 31-year-old former employee to Pastor Julius Chimbi of the Covenant Faith Ministry who was standing trail for assaulting the pastor and his wife after they allegedly refused to pay the money they owed him was last week set free by the Mwenezi Magistrate Court after Chimbi’s wife, who had laid charges, withdrew the case.
Magistrate Honest Musiiwa freed Emmanuel Masendeke of Chaka village under Chief Gutuza in Chirumanzu after the complaint, Beauty Chakwesha, a teacher at Chingami Primary School in Mwenezi, withdrew the case to pursue an out of court settlement.
Giving evidence in court earlier on, Masendeke had said he was being framed by the pastor whom he said suspected that he was having an affair with his wife.
The State, led by prosecutor Willard Chasi, alleged that on March 17, 2017 at around 16:00 hrs, Masendeke approached Chakwesha and Chimbi at Chingami Primary School and asked that he be refunded his money that he had used to buy fuel for the couple’s kombi when he still worked as their conductor.
A misunderstanding then followed, leading to the assault which both Chimbi and Chakwesha confirmed in court.
Sources told TellZim News that Chakwesha and Masendeke were forced to settle for an out of court settlement after pressure from within the church.

“Church leaders from as far as Masvingo advised both parties to settle for an out of court settlement.
This was to save the reputation of the pastor and the church after the matter attracted a lot of unnecessary media attention.
Masendeke apologised to the pastor and his wife for what he did,” said a source.local

GWERU – Bishop Michael Mateta of the Family of God Church in Gweru has published a book titled ‘So you want to get married? Read this First’ to give young unmarried people critical matrimonial foresight.
Bishop Mateta told TellZim News the book, which was written in 2015 and published in Botswana in March this year, can currently be found at Harvest House bookshop in Bulawayo and Scripture Union bookshop in Gweru.
“The book teaches the youth not to mess up their lives with wrong spousal choices but to go up in prayer when choosing their life partners, the need to honour cultural customs like paying lobola and to respect in rules of conduct before and after marriage,” said Bishop Mateta.
Most of the work and the contents of the book were taken from the teachings of his spiritual father, the founder of the church; Prophet Andrew Wutawunashe whom he said has been guiding him over the years.
“I am very sure this book can help anybody who spares some time to read it. It contains valuable information which helps to prevent some common yet costly mistakes that people make prior to marriage and thereafter,” Bishop Mateta said.
He thanked his wife Tsvakai Mateta and Lindo Morolong from Botswana whom he credited for playing vital roles by supporting him up until the book got published.
“I want to continue teaching generations to come through written work because written work cannot be misquoted. I desire to see the youth observing their cultural and Christian values when it comes to marriage and all the important facets of their lives,” Bishop Mateta said.entertainment

Family Voices to tour Midlands this season

ZVISHAVANE – The Bulawayo-based acapella group Family Voices (pictured), made up of Brighton Ncube, Bobby James Odendaal, Tinashe Chitsaka, Michael Sibanda, Ronald Pearson Magigwani and Melusi Sibanda will tour many places including Gweru and Zvishavane this winter.
The group has been nominated for the Imbube Arts award as one of the best acapella group and has been building on the momentum to take their music to a broader audience through their 14-track album, My joy.
Magigwani, who is the group’s public relation officer said they had neglected their Midlands fans for a long time but were now ready to come back to them.
“We are bringing our music live to our fans across the province as a way of spreading the gospel of the Lord and serving souls in the process,” Magigwani said.
One of the biggest achievement the existing Family Voices group seem to have made is to stay together from 2006 up to date.
The original group of the now SA-based musicians Mkhululi Bhebhe and Eric Moyo was formed in 1999 but Eric Moyo ushered in the likes of Brighton Ncube and others from 2002 to 2006.
The current group won Bulawayo Got Talent in 2011, performed at the Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa) 2012 and were called to perform at many State events for many years.
They are currently working with some of the greatest legends including Oliver Mutukudzi as well as Avis the Psalmist, having recently been called to perform at the wedding of Thandaza and Rathomeng in an episode of popular South African soapie, Muvhango.
“We just finished our first video shoot and we hope to come to Midlands and do a number of shows to push the album and the videos,” said Magigwana.entertainment

MASVINGO – Preparations for the National Association for Secondary School Heads (NASH)-organised 2017 COPA Coca Cola under 15 provincial football tournament, which is expected to be held in Gutu, are running at full throttle following the largely successful district games held last week.
NASH provincial head in charge of soccer, Tranos Mbwirire said the host school is yet to be decided but it will be in Gutu South, and preparations for the tournament have already begun with the calendar for the games solidly in place.
“The venue is yet to be decided but everything is in place. We started the preparations long back when the calendar was put in place,” said Mbwirire.
Chivi district will be represented by Chibi High School, which managed to beat Batanai High School in the finals played at Ngundu Government Secondary School.
In Zaka, Zivavose High School sailed past hosts Zaka High School to clinch the right to represent the district in Gutu.
In Bikita, Silveira High Schools and defending champions Pamushana High School will represent the district. Pamushana was given an automatic qualification for winning the finals to defend their title in a match played against Silveira at Gwindingwi High School.
The same scenario exists in Gutu district where the defending champions Dewure High School won against Alheit Chingombe High School, meaning both teams have qualified for the provincials.
Mwenezi district finals are expected to be played this Friday, after the match was postponed following disagreements between Mwenezi Government High School and Neshuro High School over game rules and suspicions of attempted age-cheating.
At the provincials, teams from the Masvingo’s seven districts will battle it out to represent the province at the nationals.sport

Mucheke Pirates travelled back home smiling all the way from Mutoko after beating hosts Mukanya Bullets by a convincing one nil score line.
In a match played at Chikondoma Stadium, Mucheke Pirates got their score from inform linkman, Tawanda Pitiri who hypnotised the opponents during the entire 90 minutes.
Pitiri scored a beauty of a header from an Alvin Gerald cross, leaving the Mukanya goalkeeper in tatters.
The win was Pirates ‘first away victory   which saw the team shooting to the second position in on the log, with Buffaloes on top with a three points lead margin.
Pirates has so won four of the eight games they played so far, lost two and drew two.
Their latest win has been received with jubilation by hordes of supporters with the team executive saying they were delighted by the win.

“We are excited to grab maximum points away from home. Winning away is important to us and we hail our players for a good performance and we urge them to continue snatching maximum points in
future away games,” team spokesperson, Godfrey Mtimba said.
Dzinochekwa Baba as the team is widely known as in the football circles of Masvingo province had a fine afternoon after they managed to contain the host without much difficulties.
The stable defence marshalled by Andrew Tavinving, George Magariro, Alvin Bhero and Bhobha had  little  challenges from Mukanya’s forwards whom  they shut out of the game for the better part of the match.
In the midfield, Pitiri had a field day; conquering the middle of the park and baffling his stunned opponents.
He had fine exchanges of passes with his fellow midfield men, Forward Mkambanga, Tafadzwa Mahori and Asani Kachepa.
Forwards Caleb Masocha and Keith Chikotora could have added their names on the score sheet but missed several chances that came their way.
Pirates this week takes on Black Eagles of Birchnough Bridge in another away match. A second win away is expected to boost their chances of Premiership promotion.sport

CHIREDZI – Chiredzi District Schools Inspector (DSI) Petronella Nyangwe has pleaded with primary and secondary schools in the district to pay their outstanding Better Schools Programme Zimbabwe (BSPZ) funds which are critical to facilitating educational development.
Nyangwe said development of education in the district was being slowed because of money to the tune of half a million dollars which the education department is owed by schools across the district.
“Primary schools owe us $102 501 020 while secondary schools owe us $428 91 900 giving us a total of $531 420 020,” Nyangwe said, encouraging parents to do their best and pay up what they owe so that operations could run smoothly.
She however acknowledged that the economic situation in the country was making it difficult for parents to pay fees for their children in time, resulting in only a tenth of BSPZ funds being collected from schools.
“We appeal to our school heads and School Development Committees to help our parents to understand the importance of clearing school fees arrears though we do not allow pupils to be sent back home. We have consulted our chiefs to help us encourage parents to pay up their arrears,” she said.
Her remarks follows concerns emanating from different quarters that progress in the completion of the district’s BSPZ building was not satisfactory as all other districts had either completed their own work or were far ahead of Chiredzi.
“We have prepared a document which we are distributing to various stakeholders seeking assistance to help us complete the expensive double-storey building,” said Nyangwe.
District Administrator (DA) Ndeya Nyede said his office had held a meeting with traditional leaders to seek their help in encouraging parents to pay off their fees arrears.
“We have already sat down with chiefs and they acknowledged that there was a challenge in as far as timely payment of fees for school children was concerned,” said Nyede.
He said he was hopeful that construction of the BSPZ building will be completed despite the huge challenges being faced by stakeholders in pulling together resources for the work to progress at a faster pace.local

CHIREDZI – Under normal circumstances, a council allocates stands to people after roads, water and sewer developments have been completed but Chiredzi Town Council (CTC) has just started work on roads in the nine-year-old Mukondo suburb.
When asked for comment, council chairperson Francis Moyo excused himself saying he had not yet assumed office when the stands were allocated in 2008 and referred questions to town secretary Charles Muchatukwa who in turn could not be reached for comment.
Last week, only one road was being graded in the sprawling suburb which lacks most of the basic services like piped water and sewer reticulation.
Chiredzi Residents and Ratepayers Association (CHRRA) chairperson Jonathan Muusha Mupamombe said his organisation regarded the developments as too little too late.
“We made some noise because residents were living in inhuman condition with no basic services but we are now hopeful because council has now decided to act,” said Mupamombe.
He said the developments were a result of pressure from an audit team sent by the lands ministry to investigate the matter.
Though residents who spoke to TellZim News said they were happy as they were now likely to have public transport operators fully servicing their area, they also said they were also worried because only the road that passes through an area dominated by council employees had been serviced.
 “There is no any road development we have seen. Only one road is being graded on the side where council employees reside,” said Josphat Tizirai, chairperson of the United Chiredzi Residents and Ratepayers Association (UCHRRA).local

MASVINGO – A 40-year-old man facing three counts of murder and one attempted murder for allegedly hacking and axing three children to death in Zaka last year told the Masvingo High Court that he was seeing mermaids surrounding him.
Munyaradzi Kudzidzvara, of Gonovi village under Chief Chikwanda, was appearing before the High Court’s Justice Mawadze for a pre-trial session last week.
Omen Mafa of Mutendi Mudisi Shumba Legal Practitioners, on behalf of the accused, argued that his client had mental health issues.
Justice Garainesu Mawadze ordered that the accused undergo a mentally examination first before setting the trial date.
It is alleged that Gonovi, who had visited his old aunt in Zimhungu village under Chief Ndanga, 60 km away from his own home, ended up butchering Ernest Dzinorumwa’s family after he passed through his homestead and thought he had reached his own house.
The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday, May 10, 2016.
It is the State’s case that Earnest Dzinorumwa went outside to relieve himself after midnight and saw Kudzidzvara in his yard standing and starring at him and when he asked him what he was doing at his homestead, Kudzidzvara approached him instead asking why he was coming out of his bedroom and accused him of having an affair with his wife.
The misunderstanding led to a physical fight as the accused allegedly picked an axe which was lying beside Dzinorumwa’s bedroom door and chased him with it.
Dzinorumwa’s wife, Angela Kwangari went outside to see before locking her three children Leticia (8), Margret (4) and Liona Anesu (2), inside the house.
The accused allegedly struck her on the head and shoulder with an axe before breaking the door where the children were sleeping and dragged each one of them some few metres away from the hut where he allegedly axed them to death and left the axe stuck in Anesu’s head.
Neighbours are said to have found the accused lying close to his dead victims and was later arrested.

‘Betemeo’ album launch this Sunday

MASVINGO – The awaited release of Batemeo, a gospel album by CBAP director Samuel Mhungu is going to be put to an end this Sunday as the album is set to be launched at the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (RCZ)’s Hillside congregation.
The album is set to be launched in conjunction with the church’s building project fundraising event running under the theme, Kupa Kune Mufaro/Cheerful giving.
Mhungu’s debut album carries six songs that were produced by Welcome Nhariswa of Cheruby Music.
The fund raising initiative is aimed at mobilising resources for the construction of a congregation house for the church minister which is expected to be ready by September this year.
The RCZ’s Reverend Charles Juro will be the main speaker at the event.
Speaking to TellZim News, Mhungu said people should come prepared to receive the word of God and entertainment from the new album and other church groups. He said the album was just the beginning of more exciting works to come.
