MASVINGO – The 2018 Copa Coca-Cola champions, Pamushana High School were this week in high heaven as they paraded their trophy at various spots in the city.
Pamushana visited their Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (RCZ) Synod, Provincial Education Director (PED) and National Social Security Authority (NSSA) offices priding themselves in their newly-attained glory.
Last Saturday, July 14, the school proved once again that they were a national sporting giant after being crowned the 2018 Copa Coca-Cola champions at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane.
They had won 2-0 against Guinea Fowl in the finals.
Speaking to TellZim News, Pamushana football team head coach, Bernard Matenga, who was voted coach of the tournament, praised his team for a well-deserved win.
"We played as a team because we don't thrive on individual brilliance. At the end of the day, teamwork paid off," said Matenga.
Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (RCZ) education secretary, Samson Shava heaped praises on the team for raising the institution's flag high.
"I am delighted that Pamushana has done it and they are on now on top in the whole country. We are proud because RCZ schools are doing very well and raising our flag high," said Shava.
The youthful side won the grand finale 2-0 against Guinea Fowl after they were awarded the ticket to the final game following a match abandonment by a relatively strong Prince Edward side in the semi-finals.
Prince Edward abandoned the match five minutes before stoppage time after Pamushana was awarded a goal which they thought was not supposed to be a goal.
Tapiwa Tagarika and Enasio Perezo of Pamushana were selected in the dream team that will represent the country in Kenya at a date to be announced by the sponsors of the tournament.
Copa Coca-Cola is an annual football galore which now caters for under 15 boys and girls and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.sport
