Masvingo Junior Social League (MJSL) has implored parents to support children who are into sport especially football so that they become competitive. The league chairperson Richard Munyenye applauded parents who were allowing their children a chance to spend time at grounds and urged them to do more through providing sport wear, refreshments among other things.
“I applaud parents who are letting their children go to the soccer grounds to spend time there. I implore them to do more and support their children with requirements like sportswear, refreshments and any other sporting equipment,” said Munyenye.
He said having children in sport protected them from societal ills like drug abuse and said MJSL committee made sure to include education on topics like sexual reproductive rights at the soccer grounds.
“The time these children spend in the soccer field holds them back from dangers like drug abuse and other things because we educate them on various topics like sexual reproductive rights and to take their responsibilities at home during training,” said Munyenye.
He further urged the community and the corporate world to sponsor MJSL saying youngsters could choose sport career paths from the junior level so there was need for assistance in whatever way possible for the junior league to prosper.
Blessing Academy head coach Blessing Nyambuya popularly known as coach Mabule said parents should identify talent and not to undermine potential of the league and their children.
“We call for parents to support their children, not to undermine league’s potential as well as their children’s because they can make a living out of sport,” said Nyambuya.
MSJL is currently on break with games scheduled to start early June. Blessing Academy is leading with 19 points from nine played matches with six wins, one draw and two loses.
On second position are ties between Strickers FC and Fair Deal both with 17 points
K.C Academy are second from last with 13 points and carrying the log is Blue Diamonds with only three points.
