ZAKA – A Form One pupil who failed to gather all his grandparents’ livestock from the veld hanged himself last week after being instructed not to return home unless he finds all the cattle.
Godsave Chaza, of Gumbire village under Chief Bota, was a pupil at Rudhanda High School and is said to have been severely traumatised by continuous abuse from his grandparents who were his guardians.
On a certain day, the boy is said to have failed to find one beast and was warned not to return home the next time he fails to locate all the cattle.
On the second day, the boy is said to have failed to find the whole herd and decided to take his own life for fear of his grandparents.
On the fateful day, he had met some friends who were going to school and told them that he was going to look for the cattle.
It is alleged the boy had previously confronted his grandparents demanding to know his father.
There are several reported and unreported cases of child abuse in the poor district of Zaka and many people believe authorities are not doing enough to protect the rights of children.
Recently, TellZim News wrote a story of a grandmother who was said to have sexually abused two minors but she is reportedly still walking free while a disabled man is accused of sexually abusing his stepdaughter but nothing has reportedly  been done to him.news
