ZVISHAVANE – The fast-growing Errymaple College held a colourful speech and prize giving ceremony on Friday last week to mark its sixth anniversary, the first event of that kind at the college’s new premises.
Errymaple is located about kilometres out of Zvishavane town along Masvingo road.
Held under the theme ‘Developing a Responsible and Self-Reliant Student’, the ceremony was graced by various stakeholder such as the Zvishavane Town Council, Bethany Project as well as representatives from the business community.
Errymaple College principal, Nyasha Mhazo said the institution was working hard to distinguish itself as a centre of academic excellence.
“We as Errymaple are striving to make sure that we produce the best out of our efforts and in order to accomplish this, we have registered with the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) and Cambridge examination boards so that we broaden our approach to education,” said Mhazo.
Mhazo also said Errymaple is making strides to develop into a full-fledged private school with international best practice in competitive education standards.
The director of Bethany Project, Rebecca Gumbo, who was the guest of honour at the event, praised Errymaple for being an inclusive institution with zero tolerance to discrimination.
“I have ten years’ experience in the advocacy field. I advocate for the rights of children and I am pleased with Errymaple’s record with children.
“We all say no to discrimination, stigmatisation of children living with HIV/AIDS as well as those living with disabilities and I am very happy to learn that this institution believes in children’s rights,” Gumbo said.
Founded in 2011, the institution has raised its profile by producing quality results and equipping the students with practical life skills.
The college has excellent boarding facilities and offers a variety of practical subjects including Agriculture, Woodwork, Building, Metalwork and Music.
