Glenlivet Resort together with other stakeholders in Masvingo will on September 24, 2022 host a marathon run aimed at raising awareness on the increasing male suicide cases.
The run set to be graced by the Provincial Education Director (PED) Shylatte Mhike will see winners being awarded in two categories.
The categories include men’s mental health for senior citizens and drug awareness for high school learners.
Speaking to TellZim News, Glenlivet Resort General Manager Ropafadzaishe Mushoorwa said this is the second time that the hotel has held a marathon but this time around the run has a theme to raise men’s mental health awareness.
“We are a hotel supporting local tourism but we have decided to put a theme to this run to show that we are concerned about the people in the society. The run is targeting men’s mental health following a sharp rise in drug abuse and suicide amongst men.
“Men’s mental health has been ignored for a long time and we are seeing that negative results are manifesting in men through suicide and drug abuse. Men are affected mostly because of the fallacy that men are strong and cannot share their pains with anyone. We want to bring about awareness that it’s okay to share about problems as men,” said Mushoorwa.
The event is targeting senior citizens, high school learners and tertiary institutions from across the country to participate.
The registration fee is pegged at US$ 15 and interested participants can contact Glenlivet Resort on 0775 674 403/0779603614 and can register for the event at Stationery World.
