Ndlela Nhire Dynasty Family Trust is set to bring life to the Hanyanya Mountain in Bikita with a 483km Hanyanya Cycling Tour set for June 29 and 30.
Mutimbanepasi Mtombe of the Ndlela Nhire Dynasty Family Trust confirmed the development to TellZim News and said there will be only one cyclist in the competition as this is the first edition.
“There is going to be one cyclist for this year. It is our first time to host such an event. Our vision is to grow it into a national, regional, continental and international tour in 3-5 years, as it attracts more attention. It is a long distance to cover in two days, 483km. When our cyclist finishes it, other cyclists will be inspired to see that it can be done and join in next year.
The cyclist, Clever Mzimukulu, will start the journey from Harare’s main Post office on June 29, 2023 and is expected to finish 296km from Harare to Masvingo and the rest of the journey from Masvingo to Bikita the following day.
“Hanyanya Tour starts at the Main Post Office in Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe, Riders require dedication & athleticism to finish this race. For the first 296kms from Harare City to Masvingo City, the trip is relatively flat and on the highway.
“After the historic & aesthetic Great Zimbabwe ascent and descent through the Ancient Lodge, the race proceeds to the beautiful and breathtaking Mutirikwi Dam view along Topola to Roy then Nyika. The course finishes at the foot of the arcane & monumental Hanyanya Mountain, Bikita,” he said.
Mutimbanepasi said the event is designed to use sport to raise funds for community development and attract tourists to Hanyanya Mountain.
“Hanyanya Cycling Tour is a benefit event for sustainable community development at grassroots level. This is achieved through cultural exchange programs & entrepreneurial skills training in schools. As well as promotion of tourism and sports. The cyclists will pass through Bikita Fashu Secondary, Pamushana High, Vushe Primary, Gwindingwi Secondary, Charamba Primary, Silveira Secondary & Museti Primary schools for meet & greet and photo shoot with students and the local community,” said Mutimbanepasi.
Hanyanya Mountain is an iconic site and home of the Mtombe people. The mountain is also a dwelling place to the mysterious harugwa bug a traditional delicacy to the local community. The entire course is lined up with some of Zimbabwe’s most stunning & breathtaking views.
