The Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (RCZ) run Gutu Mission is once again calling for support in its bike ride fundraising event to be held on October 20, 2023 which is aimed at raising funds for purchasing an ambulance for the hospital and other service delivery instruments required at the hospital.
RCZ health secretary Samuel Mhungu said the cycling programme start will from the Civic Centre in Masvingo to Gutu Mission Hospital and called for people to join in the race to fundraise.
“The aim of the ride is to raise funds towards the procurement of an ambulance for the hospital (fully equipped), digital x-ray machine, vital signs monitors and scan machines.
“Your collaboration and support to this fundraising event will go a long way towards ensuring that we come up with the necessary service delivery instruments needed by patients at the hospital,” said Mhungu.
The fundraising event is the second one the hospital is hosting following the one held last year’s in Canada where six cyclists cycled for 500 km to raise funds for the hospital’s maternity and infant health wing.
Last year’s fundraising programme was the initiative of Dr Peter Agwa a Kenyan native and the executive director of EMAS Canada who visited the hospital in 2019 and saw the dire state of the hospital’s maternity facilities prompting him to action.
The cyclists cycled from Burlington to Canadian capital Ottawa for the noble idea and Dr Agwa said the initiative was driven by the passion to see mothers and their infants have a greater chance of health and survival since the mortality rate in Zimbabwe is high.
Gutu Mission Hospital is located in Mupandawana in Masvingo province the referral centre for about 250 000 people serving as the first port of call for emergencies from 30 smaller satellite clinics in Gutu district.
