A man from Humanikwa Village, Chief Gutu in Masvingo is being charged with murder after he killed his wife over drinking maheu, a traditional beverage, at their neighbour’s place.
Masvingo Provincial Police Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the murder of Mitchel Madzivadondo (27) to TellZim News and urged members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully.
“I can confirm the death of Madzivadondo who was killed by her husband Nehemiah Mukaro (26) over maheu. I urge members of the public to solve disputes amicably and to refrain from violence,” said Dhewa.
Circumstances as given to TellZim News are that on January 15, at around 1400 hours the two were seated at their homestead when they had an argument over why Madzivadondo drank maheu at their neighbour’s residence. Mukaro took a stick and started to beat Madzivadondo all over the body.
The following day at around 0800 hours Madzivadondo went to her father-in-law’s residence to report the incident. The father-in-law later discovered that Madzivadondo was suffering from chest pains and took her to Gutu Mission Hospital.
Later that day she was transferred to Parirenyatwa Hospital and police in Gutu were notified about the case leading to the arrest of Mukaro for domestic violence.
On January 27 Madzivadondo passed away and her body is waiting for post-mortem. Mukaro was later charged with murder.
