Shurugwi man killed over plate of Sadza

A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Shurugwi’s Dollar Farm on May 9, 2025, when a dispute over a plate of sadza turned deadly.
Tanaka Sithole, a 26-year-old artisanal miner from Chipinge, lost his life after being stabbed with an Okapi knife by 19-year-old Nicholas Matanda from Mazivise village in Chief Nhema area of Shurugwi.
Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident and said the altercation escalated when Matanda withdrew a knife and stabbed Sithole in the armpit before fleeing the scene.
“I can confirm the arrest of an artisanal miner who stabbed a colleague after an altercation involving sharing of a plate of Sadza. The suspect will appear in court soon,”said Inspt Mahoko
Sithole was rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on May 11, 2025.
Inspector Mahoko urged members of the public to respect human life and avoid unnecessary disputes as the tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and respecting human life.
