CHIREDZI – Two Chiredzi innovators, Esnath Gachiti and Tafara Keith Taremuka, have
launched Amigo, a free mobile app that gives O-Level, A-Level and IGCSE students past exam
papers, AI-generated quizzes, tutors and career guidance in one place, TellZim News can report.
Amigo is available on iOS and Android. It includes an AI quiz generator, ZIMSEC and
Cambridge past papers with marking schemes, exam timetables and a directory of tutors.
In an interview with TellZim News, Gachiti said the app was built to serve students preparing for
examinations, at no cost to them.

“We created this application for Ordinary and Advanced level students, and it is called Amigo.
The application is completely free for students,” she said.
She said the pair collaborated on the idea to benefit students, not to make a profit. The app was
developed under a company called Masterpiece Designs.
“We collaborated on an idea that benefits students, not for profiteering, but just to give back to
the community. We have been promoting the app to local students, and we have had a good
turnout. We are just hoping to reach more students,” said Gachiti.
According to the developers, Amigo targets a problem many Zimbabwean students know well:
past papers locked behind paywalls, private tutors too costly for most families, bursary deadlines
that pass unnoticed, and university choices made with little information.
Gachiti said the app addresses that inequality, provided a student has a smartphone.
“It’s a crowd-sourced resource app which bridges the gap of inequality of quality study
information and material for all Zimbabweans. As long as a student has a smartphone, he or she
can access this information to study. The major aspect is to help improve pass rates and create
vision-oriented learning, which is why we have, on the app, a career pathfinder and mentorship
portals,” she said.

The app offers a range of study tools, including a quiz generator that allows students to set
questions by subject, topic and number of questions, either in practice mode or in a timed exam
mode with a 30-minute countdown. Wrong answers come with AI explanations, while a progress
tracker colour-codes performance by subject and flags weak topics.
Students can also browse and download ZIMSEC and Cambridge question papers, mark schemes
and examiner reports by level, subject, year and session, with the option to read them offline.
The app allows learners to build a weekly lesson timetable, with exam dates and the school-term
calendar pre-loaded, and exams are flagged when they match a student’s subjects. Notes,
summaries and study guides uploaded by students are moderated for quality before being shared.
Learners can search for tutors by city, suburb and subject, view their qualifications and rates, and
contact them on WhatsApp. The app’s Future Hub lists Zimbabwean universities and their
courses, and its Pathfinder tool matches A-Level subjects to courses. It also carries bursaries with
deadline alerts, as well as careers with salary ranges and outlook. In addition, students can
connect with mentors, register for seminars, and access a Wellness Corner that offers stress,
sleep, and study-habit tips alongside crisis lines. An “Ask Expert” feature is listed as coming
soon.
Built to work with patchy connectivity, Amigo stores content on the device so students can keep
studying without a signal. The developers say it carries no advertising and keeps student data
private.
