MPANDAWANA –The Gutu Magistrate Court recently ordered Luckson Mapanda (36) of Ushe village under Chief Chimombe to pay a US$60 fine or to serve three months for assaulting his sister over food.
He had been charged and convicted for contravening Section 4 (1) of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16.
It was the State’s case that on September 04 at around 18:00 hrs, Luckson arrived home from the bar and found her sister Berita Mapanda, her husband and daughter at home. He asked for food and he was given his share of sadza.
He took his meal and demanded some more, but Berita told him there was nothing left.
Luckson was not pleased by the response, leading to a misunderstanding which saw him striking his sister with a metal bar on her stomach and on her left hand.
Berita then reported the matter to the police leading to Luckson’s arrest.
When magistrate Victor Mahamadi asked him why he committed the offence, Luckson said he was not pleased by her sister’s tepid response.
“I was not pleased by the rude response she gave me. She said to me she was not my wife so I was not amused by that. She was supposed to respond in a polite way,” said Luckson.crime
