CHIVHU – Chief Mutekedza, born Andrew Zhakata, has urged his subjects to shun political violence ahead of elections this year, saying freedom of expression and association must be respected.
Chief Mutekedza made the remarks while addressing his subjects in Warikandwa, in Sadza recently.
The outspoken traditional leader said political violence was in nobody’s interests as it causes societal scars that take a long time to heal, thereby slowing down national development.
“Ikozvino tave kuenda kusarudzo, zvekurovana nekupinganidzana uyu achiti ndiriwebato rakati iwe uri werakati ini muno munzvimbo mangu ndazviramba. Kana uine rako gara naro siya ane rake akadaro. Nyaya dzakadai dzinokonzeresa matambudziko akawanda huye zvinotadzisa budiriro,” he said.
He went on to emphasise the need for respecting the supreme law of the land, the constitution, which guarantees freedom of expression and association.
“Constitution yedu iyi inoti munhu anotenderwa kuve nhengo yekereke kana bato rezvamatongerwe enyika raanoda iye pachake zvisina kumanikidzwa. Tinoda rugare, runyararo pamaelections apa,” he said.
He went on to castigate traditional leaders who align themselves with political parties saying it is unconstitutional.
“Imi masabhuku angu nema headman muripano, siyanai nezvematongerwe enyika constitution yedu haitendere. Kana aripo anozviita ibva wasiya nhasi. Vamwe hamutonyorane kuchibage uchinzi hausi wemusangano wakati. Ungatungamire sei musha iwe uchivenga vamwe vana vako muraini mako,” said Chief Mutekedza.
The meeting was attended by the Forestry Commission and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) which took time to explain the constitution to the people of Sadza.top news
