CHIVI – Chivi Rural District Council (RDC) chairperson Dr Killer Zivhu has spoken against community leaders who abuse the Presidential Input Scheme for their own selfish ends, warning that he will deal with such people this time around.
Dr Zivhu was addressing hundreds of farmers who gathered for the launch of the second phase of the village ZimAsset programme, now transformed to village command agriculture, at Banga Irrigation Scheme in Ward 26.
Also present at the event was Chivi South Member of Parliament Mafios Vutete and Councillor Enock Shindi.
“Ma inputs aPresident ari kuuya. Ndakakumbira honourable ndikanokumbira minister vakapinda ikozvino kuti macouncillor angu awa handidi kumaona ivo nevakadzi vavo vachitambira mbeu. Ivo vachatambirira kwaChivi. Kana vauya kumusha vanofanira kuita zvekutambirisa mbeu kwete zvekutambirisa mvana dzavo asi kutambirisa vanhu mbeu nefetiraiza. (The President’s inputs are coming and I have engaged with the Honourable [Vutete] and the new Provincial Affairs minister [Dr Paul Chimedza] to make sure that not one of my councillors and their wives are allowed to receive inputs at village level They will have to receive theirs at Chivi growth point and when the programme comes to the villages, they will only be required to distribute the inputs to the people but not to receive the inputs themselves. They will strictly be required to only distribute to the people, not to their mistresses),” Dr Zivhu said.
“Councillors cannot give me problems; I know how to deal with them. I am their leader in Chivi district and the whole Masvingo province, I am also leader of all rural councillors as well as all councillors; rural and urban. They are my people so when I speak, the boss has spoken. Neither councillor nor village head will be allowed to use inputs to entice women. Go and find something else to use as bait, not to use inputs. We will not turn back on that one,” said Dr Zivhu.
Dr Zivhu, who is Association of Rural District Councils of Zimbabwe (ARDCZ) president, was recently appointed leader of the Zimbabwe Local Government Association (Zilga).

Dr Zivhu, who recently donated 32 cattle for slaughter during implementation of the second phase of the village ZimAsset initiative, urged farmers to work for higher yields this season.
“We are now moving on to village command agriculture, water harvesting as well rehabilitation of roads, schools and clinics. We also want people to use the inputs they will get, not to sell them. We want to see each farmer producing what is commensurate with the inputs he gets. We don’t want to see our people going elsewhere to buy food,” Dr Zivhu said.
